  1. i might have a monster dead elm to make safe, it is in a woodland, it must be 7 feet in diameter up to about 25 feet then breaks into 4 big upright trunks. i have recomeneded to bring it down to about 6 feet above where it breaks into 4. it is on the top of a small banking. if i leave it this hieght and get some advice on coronet cuts, do you think it will be safe, the last thing i want is in 10years it falls over and takes the banking with it. sorry no pics:001_smile:
  2. howdy mate, just thought i would say hello, i didnt expect you to look like that lol its these avatars they mess with my head. looks like you have had some good work lately. cheers stevie

  3. nice one mate, big tree. have the 2 lower limbs been reduced in the past?
  4. there is an excellent example of a big hollow sycamore in blairquan estate in maybole, its in the book 'a pleasure in scottish trees' it gets pollarded every few years. you can stand in the middle and look right up the inside:001_smile:
  5. love the surf board, far to good for firewood:001_smile:
  6. you didnt want to run your lovely sharp saws through all the crap in the middle of the trees mate, i would of opted for the pole prune pollard myself:001_tongue:
  7. thats what i would call a pulling line now, stick it to the bottom of the bag and buy a new one. but hard to see from pics mate
  8. or the epicormics havent been touched for 20yrs, they are full of boulders and steel and you cant see if they are hollow/rotten or good. i have worked on 100foot limes full of epicormics from tip to toe, can take you 2 hrs just to get to the top to get your line in. then half way up you find a hole you could hide in:scared1:
  9. elton boots, started off with them, tried more expensive ones, and now back to the them.good all round boot for 80quid but i think they are now up to 90 due to the euro
  10. he obviously trusts you, i would go for day rate:001_smile:
  11. cozy-feet. you get them in pink:001_smile:
  12. i have never been asked to do a crown thin on anything big, some of the reductions i have seen posted on here a find truly amazing, up here it is value for money tree work, pollard or fell. most of my work is for a view or just to big. i dont think you could use anything as an extension for accurate pruning, any time i have used the pole saw up a tree, it is for removals, not ideal, hard going on your back, but if it works, it works.
  13. not often but sometimes:001_smile:
  14. couldnt get it to work mate, says its no longer available
  15. this will probably open a can of worms, if i cant get my ass out there either because i cant or i dont want to, then i take up the pole pruner, get into a good position and away you go, you feel like darth maul swinging his double light saber.
  16. nice one jas, do you have any examples of your work up trees. i looked at the biggest dead elm today that i have ever seen, i have priced to get it, just for the shear demolision factor, nothing coming off site, no lowering just 046 tastic. unfortunately it cant be felled. we could maybe do something mate
  17. do they still do the tekuila slushes in the 'kitchen' in edinburgh jamie? oh the good old days:001_smile:
  18. when the mrs asks what car would you have in the whole world if you could and you say,'i like my van, there is loads of room for the kids, good for towing and tax efficient'
  19. could this be the problem? surely bigger wheels/tyres mean more stress on the studs. we need the engineering guys to answer this:001_smile:
  20. thinking the music in pubs is too noisy,
  21. were they the standard studs? i have just got one and this is pretty scary mate.
  22. i have a vision of you doing donuts at the apf, in amongst all the 4x4s and tippers john, lol
  23. i thought i would just stir it up a bit john:001_smile: forgot about you my friend, have you bought that 20k go kart yet to make yourself feel younger:001_tongue:
  24. not good guys, sorry to hear that.
  25. i just clocked the lamp post, tree must be big. go for it mate its good fun, once oyu get started you will sus the best way to do it as you go, just watch that the big lumps dont bounce off the stem on the way down, causing damage. looks like you can get a lot of hieght with your climbing line to get well out the limb, once the groundies get into the way of tightening and loosening the line you will fly through it, its great fun.
