  5. Get yourself the tree climbers companion, a really good book and useful to look over if you have not used a particular knot or hitch in a while. something like a distel on your side lanyard i found really good as its quite a short hitch but hey just try new things and it will be like your being reborn into climbing and enjoy
  6. Im gutted thats like on my doorstep but have arranged to go away for the weekend
  7. i have heard that mud terrains in general are hard to get hold of especially bfg
  8. great pictures matt must be quite a nice feeling to know you are so many generations down the line of tree workers. A great piece of history that you can keep and pass down the line to your kids (if you have any). Nice one and keep the photos coming
  9. Why not cut it once with a saw then split it and run it through a saw bench, less work for the saw then?
  10. no worries just thought would check as i know some places are doing like crane rigging kit type things so kind of cross over, really im just trying to cheat as dont have many rigging pics:blushing:
  11. there is a tip site at north waltham a little further up the a303 towards basingstoke about 7miles past the a34 junction if of any use will pm some details
  12. Hi Yve is it just rigging or would crane work photos work too?
  13. A few from December nothing close up though
  14. If someone leaves stubs and have not cut back to points we say that peggy mitchell has been up there or if a tree has been butchered well old frank butcher must have been up there. For some reason we call the valtra 3600 snoopy, think its the nose?
  15. Not sure how they got on and its going back a few years now although the bat handler felt quite confident they would be fine. I dont believe anything came of it (as in being fined) but the bat handler did say i would have been difficult to identify the hole as there were no tell tale signs although this did make us much more aware for that particular site and for the future to be honest. I would be very interested in a kind or days training/seminar type thing to help identify these habitats a lot better.
  16. Hi david hope you dont mind adding a few of my own experiences. I dont have any photos of the tree but it was a beech which broke into two stems about 15ft up and then twisted round each other and i could see no potential hollow for the little fellas. Unfortunately i felled out the bottom section and when the stem hit the ground it split open revealing them about 5 in all i believe and i they all survived although one was touch and go. Work site stopped and waited for appropriate bat handlers (all good fun along and A road with traffic management).
  17. Are crane photos allowed?
  18. I miss my astravan if i didn't need a 4x4 then i would most prob have one dont have any experience with much else though.
  19. Hi rob we had to rig all the brash down and although the guys did really well they had not done any rigging before and we had to rig down the back stem fairly low and it was quite weighty, i was also driving hour and 45min every morning. Ok im out of excuses. They were taking away timber for firewood hence why you could have chipped most of that pile haha and they ended grinding the stump.......with a walk behind. Oh and reason for removal was after survey and drilling were advised removal also advised removal from the council, the back side had torn out in the past landing across a road which then lead to further decay. hope that answers a few questions
  20. Just a few pics of an interesting beech fell from the other week. I was just called in to climb and take the tree down to a manageable height basically near the fork. Took about two and a half days to get it down to that point, customer wanted all brash rigged so not to dent the grass as the small property was is a holiday cottage. Due to time restrictions ended up having a timber crash mat to knock of some larger timber off. hope you enjoy.
  21. Big beech fell from the other week used the 880 with a 36bar just to make sure it would reach out the other side as next saw down had 20bar. Side profile pic shows the piece that was felled out might start a new thread showing whole tree if anyones interested?
  22. There are two on ebay at the moment
  23. Alright milky hows things going? i guess as your on here your still in the tree game fair play, what you up to nowadays?
