  1. its where the spark prevention jobby goes in possibly an american 200t?
  2. If your self employed i dont think you can soley work for one person, so you would have to mix it up a bit and work for different people or find some of your own stuff
  3. At least you could use a mewp for the reduction make life a little easier?
  4. Thanks for your input guys just interested as someone mentioned about going VAT registered before the threshold especially as im buying a new motor and setting up with some tools, although i mostly just climb for other companys do some training and very occasionally get my own work in it would not really affect who i work for as the majority are VAT reg anyway
  5. Looking at the amount cut through looks like he should have used a mewp? I mean the climber and not pyjama man:001_tt2:
  6. Brave doing it on assessment but thats the answer he would be looking for so hope you passed
  7. Just interested on the amount of people who have registered themselves before going over the threshold?
  8. If a 200t is designed for one handed use then how do you take the chain brake off with one hand whilst holding it? I think there has been some good comments on this thread and im with edenarb on this with there being a big difference on one handed use and cutting and holding
  9. When looking at your final cut after the tree is down dont always jump on what you did wrong, what went well? If it got hung up did you have the correct safe procedure in getting it down? Then look at what you will change for the next time. Like what has been previously mentioned make sure all your tools are to hand nothing worse than seeing someone felling then look round to grab the felling lever and realise its at the last tree. Finally i would say dont fell high as this wont be the height your felling at on assessment so wont be of any benefit, also enjoy it your learning something new ready for a new career maybe? It normally starts to get better towards the end of the week too, good luck
  10. how about and ahwi not sure if thats spelt right though?
  11. Looks like the husky top handle is pretty safe then had to say it for those that dislike them
  12. But surely that must be slowing down with all the time of clipping together slings:001_tt2: only kidding its a dodgy old thing at times potentially overloading them especially with two in the bucket not much room for extra weight on the mewp. I have done a lot of work with the nissan cabstar mewp and i really dont enjoy being at full extension looking down and seeing a little old cabstar
  13. When you refer to training dean do you mean training for one handed use or of cutting and chucking because in the current cs39 candidates have to give reasons of using the saw in exceptional circumstances such as one handed and left handed, they dont have to demonstrate these just explain where and why
  14. its ok, does the job although could be better im looking forward to the new one when released. good times hopefully
  15. I am a two handed user i think the point is not whether you use one or two hands but cutting and holding the wood. I will use a saw one handed if the position arises but generally my work now is not on piece rate so a little more time can be taken on work positioning and the like
  16. Hi butler i didn't mean to offend was a genuine question as i met you in tadley many years ago (think you were landscaping) and you showed us a scar on the forearm of a chainsaw related injury. just find it weird how you had an accident yet matt admits still cutting and holding would have thought it was a bit close to home to still be doing that after seeing what you must have gone through, that was the point i was making about you cutting yourself.
  17. but didn't your bro cut his arm cutting and chucking?
  18. cutting and chucking quicker? not that much quicker when you cut your arm then take six months off work bet the employer will be glad of those extra five minutes saved on the last job, i will stick to the silky for those bits thanks or maybe rig it down
  19. green grafter nearly had me going there, love the way this thread is still going two years on. A funny one we had was when we were chipping into back of the transit whilst chipper was on the back of a hilux and transit at 90 degrees to the chipper. chipping all done hilux drives off and then whilst we are all shouting to stop manages to take out a............lamp post, not as strong as they look for the record. Oh person driving was the manager pissed my pants well when he had to make the phone call to head office
  20. my belief is that its to do with the clearing space from the back of the cutter to the next depth gauge so the 1/4 3/8 found on top handle saws and smaller hobby saws has a relatively large clearing area due to the small power out put similar to .404 on large saws these saws dont rev massivley just plod along and with long bars need a large clearing area or they would just get blocked up, hope that helps but i hope im right too lol
  21. Dean i dont know the story of how yours went over would you mind telling am just interested in how the safety features dont kick in? Some machines do have quite a bounce when the levers are pulled too quickly. Thanks ben
  22. Ok so poor title i know but is there some form of records that can be resourced by the public to find out if gear is stolen similar to buying a car or a trailer you can find out if they are stolen. Or is it all just kept by the police if reported that is? Just think it would be a good idea so when items are put on gaybay or when oh my tree surgeon mate is selling up and getting rid of his gear conveniently half price brand new:sneaky2:. If there is nothing in place maybe some organisation might want to take charge say the aa? And before anyone complains i know it would be a full time job to take on what with all the thieving just a suggestion
  23. Ok so my first poll so should have made myself more clear, i was more trying to find out if the employees managed to make it to the yard and then only be turned away unpaid
  24. i only wanted to change to establish if people put unpaid if they were self employed but realised in the question its only relevant to those employed!
  25. Im just interested as im self employed now so dont expect any special treatment if days get called off, but when employed on the books i never used to get paid. This was a bit disappointing as was a large company too. Is it too late to edit the poll to add something for the self employed?
