  1. Good article David, lots of difficult words, some of which i don't have to look up any more.
  2. Sun rise at the APF, it can only be a good day
  3. Found another Flame shield today, easy to spot, but difficult to photo at the bottom of a hollow tree stump .
  4. The inline fuel filter on mine is prone to blocking wuth gunk, and is only a fiver to replace. I have found speaking to tech support at Greenmech the best place to start. Always helpful.
  5. Ported saws and bottle jacks, it can only be a good day today.
  6. Dont worry i can come and annoy you, on Thursday and Friday 😁
  7. You will need your passport or driving licence to get into the docks. Not sure how Brexit has affected it, but it was very straightforward as the people or used to dealing with clueless fools. When i picked mine up, the ferry had docked about 4am, and i was able to load it by about 8am. Give us a ring if you have any questions 07966 792798
  8. It would need to be an actual site.
  9. There are similar things in west Wales used for baptism
  10. Those look like Bird cherry, so they wouldn't be exempt. One of the felling licence requirements is re-stocking, so you will need to provide an additional site if you are not intending to restock . Sites like this are always tricky, and the developers just want it done. If nobody complains then you will be fine. Richs idea has merit
  11. No doubt it would, but i haven't got one. I am having to move timber which is hidden by the brash, which i can't do with a rake.
  12. I have had complaints that my last video was too exciting, so i have gone back to basics #Dullasditchwater
  13. The square mouth I think is used on massive tree, but I have never been able to find out the reason why. It is often used with a snipe (angled cut) at the front for the tree to slide down. I know that the humbolt cut was developed with big trees, so that the mouth would slide out when it was cut. Most of the mouths when cut were not able to be moved by hand!
  14. This is what I like about this kind of stuff, there are soo many variations , and all are equally valid. It is also learning why things have gone wrong, and what can you change to try and make it work. If there are any more similar leaning trees in this wood, I will try both.
  15. Once its had run in I will let have some feedback
  16. Woop woop, it's the sounds of the police You'll never take me alive cooper!
  17. Quite a few people bring the corner of the mouth down, and create a smaller area for the hinge to bend, but I always find that they don't hold. Making the extra long diagonal seems to allow better holding even with trees with poor fiber strength. The down side is the height of the stump, the back of the handle was touching the ground in that video. I am surprised that the stump police haven't swooped in!
  18. Following on from the Shark gill cut, and trying to discribe the @Mark Bolam@drinksloe Sizwheel cut, I have made a short video and discription of what I have done. @Crockyfirst impressions of Big Dolly since you have added a little magic are very good
  19. Xylaria polymorpha. It grows on dead timber, so is probably growing out of a rot pocket Of the tree.
  20. The question should be: How big is my Lime tree going to get? Lime trees get big, and quickly. They cast heavy shade, have large leaves. You will have continual issues with blocked gutters, algae growing on shaded walls. No matter how clever the design you will have a detrimental effect on the tree, which will lead the tree into slow decline, and regular unsympathetic heavy pruning.
  21. Bark Boxs sound good from a long way away , but do nothing for performance, and with chipper spec ear defenders are still way too loud . @Crocky mod to my Dolmar 7310 has a pleasing 'put' much better performance , without being anti socially loud. Money much better spent on a professional port.
  22. Its not a lovely tree, its an unloved tree. It is probably suffering from root compaction , competition with the grass lawn, water stress, and its been pollarded. I would also guess that there is strimmer damage around the base of the tree. Whitebeams are not large trees, so i am not sure why it needed to be pollarded. Watering every day may be enough to revive it. If it does survive i would remove some of the grass around the base and put a thick layer of mulch down.
  23. Would it not be better to natural crutch rig in smaller trees?
  24. Cheers @Crocky can't wait to get my grubby mits on Big Dolly.
  25. Stop teasing me, you know its cruel to keep an idiot in suspense.
