  1. Any forestry that involves a winch will double your costs. I have never managed to to extract on slopes for the value of the timber, particularly small diameter. Looking at the size if the timber, i would guess £60 per cube would be more realistic. Remember that you are adding value to the remaining trees.
  2. I use Laylandii as bearers to stack split timber on, the oldest is about 15 yrs old and has been lying on the ground for all that time. It is just starting to show signs of rot. No other wood including oak has lasted as well as Laylandii
  3. Just changed it @Khriss, should work now
  4. First outing for the new machine @IronMike, this makes the Log bullet look tiny
  5. These are the best that i have used, well made and grip well. https://www.chrisforestry.co.uk/store/Stubai-Hand-Tongs-p135973142
  6. I have had mine for 4 years, so far the only thing to have gone wrong is the RPM sensor. Has always started and keeps the ground crew busy. I will be buying another one. Greenmech tech support is brilliant. My only quibble is i no longer have a local dealer .
  7. @Steve Bullman i have looked on my computer, tablet , next doors computer, and i can not find the Arbtalk app in google play, can you post a link for me. Cheers muchley.
  8. When i search the Google play store for the Arbtalk app all i get is this. I can find it in the apple store but not in Google play.
  9. @Steve Bullman I have had to reinstall the app, but i can not find it in the App store. Where to by is it hiding on the Web?
  10. Verbal and mutual trust is the best. However you want some form of paper trail as back up to which both parties agree to for when it all goes wrong. If you are after small amount of timber (sub 200 m3) in small woodlands then a management plan isn't much use. The forestry commission has a management plan guide on its website.
  11. Been using Woolpower for 2 years, hard wearing and well worth the money. It does attract sawdust, but doesn't smell and comfy to wear.
  12. @Ironmike, the good timber didn't last long, back to small dying Ash

  14. You don't need all the bells and whistles, the basic machine is more than adequate. 27k is alot if you don't have it, but with finance of 5yrs, a basic business plan, and an established forestry customer base, it is definitively doable
  15. Leave it on, and put it down to life's patina. It will make an interesting talking point.
  16. Hello Rough hewn, i am based in SW Pembrokeshire
  17. I can only concur with Big j and Iron Mike, when things break Pekka has sent the replacements parts out free. I like all the other log bullet owners have been feeding back issues so the machine can be improved. With care and practice 20-30 tons a day is easy. Keep the log length to around 3m and you will be less likely to overload. Mine fits nicely on a 16' twin axle trailer, but it has to be back against the tail ramp. I am going to upgrade to a tri axle . Have a look at my 'some things moving' video thread
  18. Flat, easy felling, low levels of brambles, and decent oak for firewood.
