  1. How much better do you recon it is, as it is nearly twice the price of the orgeon chain ?
  2. Felling by hand, skidding out in whole tree lenghts, and using forwarder/ excavator with timber grab to do the lifting. But being adaptable in any suituation, and adapting what you have will be far more usefull that lots of machines that only do one job.
  3. Booked onto the Carmarthen one on the 6th
  4. Ho ho ho. I prefer the redneck with the swinging chainsaw.
  5. It is some sort of gall, but i can not find a picture to match in my insect book. Somebody on here will know.
  6. Oh go on, i will be your friend.
  7. Now that this thread is suitably de-railed, Shall we discuss the merits of a feller-buncher, over a harvester, both tracked and wheeled ?
  8. Sounds like you have it sorted, enjoy the camp fire, and hope that there are not too many biting insects
  9. Eddy stobart are after large quantities of wood for biomas, it might be worth trying them. Stobart Biomass | Services | Stobart Group
  10. If all you got is Chestnut, then build it out of Chestnut. It is nearly as durable as oak, and is a bit easier to work.
  11. The Tweedfloss tree ?
  12. On my own i can cut to size (3') from the timber stack, split (with a 12 ton hydralic splitter) and stack to air dry about 4-5 m3 a day. with two of us it goes up to about 9-10 m3. Wood sizes 4-18".
  13. Alright then is it the Devils walking club ?
  14. Is it the Common prickly ash, or toothache tree ?
  15. How long do you think it will take, based on your previous experience ?
  16. Is the wood in 'Better woodland Wales, or Glastir'. Because if it is then there will be grants for access into the woods. If the terrain is bad you can effectively double your extraction costs, and you will need a winch. From what you are saying i would say that you might be better off walking away from this one, particularly as you have no machinery.
  17. If you are getting it milled in-situ it will only take a couple of hours, so it will be their hourly rate x2. Or buy yourself a chainsaw mill and do it yourself !
  18. This what i do to keep the kids happy when on boring woodland walks, but we call it ent spotting. First one to spot a face gets a prize, which is normally a stick !
  19. Arr the delicate embrace of sweet lady cider, mmmmmmmmm
  20. The goblet with the wavy edge, was it turned like that, or were they added after the goblet was finnished ? Some goodwork there with interesting forms, well done.
  21. A bit of turning from last night, and then tonight as the first one went wrong. Photo one is just before i cut too much off the middle and went right through (bugger). Tonights effort, pics 3 & 4 i bottled out and did not get it thin as i would have liked. The wood is still a bit green, hence why it needs to be thin to alow it to move. The platter is ash and finnished with sunflower oil to make it food safe.
  22. I got £15 per m3, which was the best offer by about £9 per m3. Transport is the killer so try and find someone local.
  23. Holy Cow batman, that is even more clapped out than mine. But if it works ignore all the abuse that is coming your way.
  24. Most PPE is available in large sizes, but normall to special order. One of my previous employer was simmilar dimentions to you and he never had problems getting ppe. If the timber had woodworm, bring it in in the house in small batches, and don't leave it lying around. Birch seasons quickly, burns quickly, and rots quickly, particularly outside, so it wont last long for fruit cages.
