  1. After they have been going to a gym for a fortnight.
  2. ...there's a recession, you know?
  3. Workwise - too many to list! If someone gives me a wad of cash I have to have the Queen's head on the notes all facing the right way, with the largest notes at the back. It freaks me out if I know I have unsorted notes in my pocket! Or have I got OCD?
  4. Makes you think a bit that one Dave. Cracking observation.
  5. I think I will only do that to frail pensioners when I have a few beefy lads with me on the job.....
  6. Great job Stuart. Well done. Is your gaffer still alive though? Looks like he's about to cut himself out of the tree in the 3rd to last shot!
  7. Would I be out of order to stick a 10% 'service charge' (discretionary, of course) on top of the final bill like they do in restaurants?
  8. £200 here, added to total bill in cheque. Felling 3 Oaks for nice rich bloke. He must have been impressed by the way we totally flattened one of his shrubs! Don't spend it all at once Cerne!
  9. Ditto that mate. I doubt they will try and enforce it with our tree work / tarmaccing and scrap metal dealing friends, will they? Sick of it. Another tax. F*** them.
  10. Dean admit it. You were experimenting with the 'unusual blocking technique', weren't you?

Top work! Whoever sanctioned the crane and saved the bees should get a medal IMO. How do your ribs feel now mate?
  12. Just remember it's not worth pricing jobs to break even IMO, even to get a foot in the door. You want a reputation for being good, not cheap. If we all go round undercutting each other a large leylandii takedown WILL end up costing £100! Not worth trying to compete with Did prices. You can't. And you shouldn't want to.
  13. Looking great Reg. Is it anodised finish?
  14. I do 4 sometimes Matty. With my Silky.
  15. Tell them to take you to court Dean. I'd love to sit in the gallery and watch that one play out. I think they would need OJ Simpson's lawyer to get a result against you! I don't think Sherlock Holmes is employed by Ealing council at the moment...
  16. Ditto that Mac. Got stuff coming in all the time, but it's always £200 domestic stuff. Keeps us going, but Alan Sugar isn't quaking in his boots. Nothing to get the teeth into for ages. Let's all keep our standards up (and prices!). Have priced a lot recently where you just know that you are not going to be doing the work. I can't be arsed to explain that minimum of 2 blokes and £35k of equipment, insurance, tickets etc. isn't going to cost £50 a day. After reading all the stress threads I now try and walk away whistling with a grin on my face. Remember though, trees and hedges have no respect for the credit crunch, and will continue growing. There is still work out there! Think Positive!
  17. Not doubting this fella's skill, it's a polished performance alright. Just think it may set a bad example to the inexperienced - there is potential for mayhem doing this. I've tried all kinds of experimental stuff when chogging down, but always revert back to nice controlled step with the biggest chunk I can comfortably handle. Good, interesting post though.
  18. What an utterly pointless technique. If he took lumps twice as big he could still chuck them where he wanted and do half the cutting. Faster, safer. Puff.
  19. Was the Subaru beamed up by aliens? I reckon it failed an MOT and got scrapped. Thanks man. That was worth the wait!
  20. What's a muck truck mate? Where can I get one? How much are they? Thanks.
  21. Stevie, if only my wit was as sharp as yours I would never have to sharpen a chain again!
  22. I am on the fence here. If a customer has accepted your price, does it matter if it takes 5 minutes or 5 days? But, like Dean, I think they sometimes want to see you graft for your money because they have no idea about overheads. A typical job for us will often have side alley access only to a rear garden. Can anyone recommend a decent truck/trolley for carting 2 man lift size bits out of similar gardens? Wheelbarrows and sack barrows can do it, but I'm after something that can carry 1/2 ton or so. DON'T say Dingo/Bobcat or similar. Unless you want to buy me one.
  23. Bell you next week Justin. Need a few other bits and bobs as well. Or should I post a thread before buying them....
