Bob, you're right. Technically it is, but it flips nicely on the stuff I tend to do.
  2. Cheers Garth, I'll keep it in mind for bigger jobs, but I often seem to end up with 1/2 load of mixed cord, chip and sh*te from domestic jobs.
  3. Bloke I sub for has one. Awesome power - it will split seasoned, gnarly Euc! Two man job for decent productivity, as stated. And it is bloody heavy!

3.5m split tail with ISC grab and Mongoose on eye end. Runs easy and big Mongoose is simple to work with cold fingers. Remember your stopper knot!
  5. What's the going rate for renting a bit of ground for log stack / chip pile / burn site? Need approx 1/2 acre. And I fully expect the answers to be varied! Have a reasonable set up with a farm at the mo. I do all the treework they can't do with a digger bucket, Matbro, Telehandler etc. in lieu of yard space in various locations. Problem is other people use it as well and keep dumping TV's, matresses etc. there and piling up US soil so Transit access is a ballache. Could do with sorting out a yard of my own on a more formal basis. Fully appreciate the fact that some of you won't want to disclose what you pay. Cheers.
  6. Yes mate, have had this problem now and then. No solution so far, and cracking on the chainbrake with the right hand is a BAD idea! Great saw though.
  7. :001_smile:Good work fellas. Hope your hands didn't get as cold as mine did today! RE earlier comments about pricing, from original photos I would have thought morning to drop it, easy afternoon finish. Looking at the dismantle pics I reckon it was 50% bigger than I thought. Could have dropped a bollock there! Still a funny looking Birch....
  8. Now I know! Evil little gentleman in velvet. KABOOM!
  9. That looks more fun than topping conifers! Never been too sure how much harm moles do to pasture, mind.
  10. Tragic. What a waste. The inquest is underway. Are the results public? As already mentioned, knowing exactly what went wrong may save lives in the future.
  11. What does the travel involve Bro?
  12. Fully expected him to die when the Mog went up that mound. There's having a laugh then there's being suicidal. These boys crossed the line, I reckon. Mind you, he could have cut that hedge pretty quickly if he'd had an 88 with him. The pussy.
  13. vt with Hitchclimber is best combo I've ever found. But... all the basic knots / hitches have their place. Have fun playing with them. DON'T be like me, using a Prussick for years, copying an old boy who didn't like change.
  14. Fell. Poison. End. What a crappy life for a tree doing it's best when planted in a totally wrong situation.
  15. Well why don't you f*** off back to NZ then?
  16. Nothing wrong with Caritool. It is a consumable bit of of kit that you should check regularly. £4 never lasts forever. Don't clip on to it instead of a side D, however. That hurts.
  17. Thou shalt not break arm off Greek statue in garden whilst winching stump out then stick arm back on with soil/bar oil.
  18. Don't fell them. Sell the apples next year.
  19. Thou shalt not scowl at other tree gangs as you drive past each other... The guilty know who they are...
  20. That is beautiful work. I have mixed views on reductions generally. I see a lot that are pointless, ugly and a waste of time. It's not often you see one so good that the tree has a much better shape afterwards. Nice one.
  21. Reg, Any idea about timescales? It's not just a big fat groundie in a silver suit is it?
  22. My young groundie turns 18 in Feb and is keen to do CS 30/31, 38, 39 and chipper. He can't afford to pay for standalone courses and I don't have enough work to employ him full time as an apprentice. He doesn't fancy college for 1-2 years but would be keen on a condensed 10 week course or similar. What's the crack with grants / funding? Any ideas and suggestions appreciated. He knows all about the job now, and is mad keen to get going. We are based near Ashford, Kent.
  23. Thanks for so much input fellas. Garth - Not the one in Tenterden (which is a beast), this one is in Littlestone. Smaller, but in a tiny back garden.
