  1. Winter is a comin', and I want to be prepared. Can anyone recommend a pair of gloves that are seriously warm, but that you can still grip rope/open krabs with etc.? Tried most things out there, but I have bad circulation in my hands. If it's cold and wet I've had to stop climbing a few times cos I literally can't feel my hands and things are getting unsafe. Money no object really, cos if I can work one extra day because I find some wonder gloves they'll be paid for. Any input appreciated. Cheers.
  2. Vt now set up with Hitchclimber. Slipped a bit at first, but nailed it after a bit of playing around. Can't believe how it breaks so easily but sticks so well. Thanks to FR Jones for excellent service with the bits. Thanks for the input fellas.
  3. Nice work! Doing similar on Monday. 10 to fell bordering caravan park. Winching them into field with a 1954 Unipower. This old beauty has a ground spade and a 30 ton pull. Anyone want any Poplar cord? It's cracking logwood, keeps your fire in for days!
  4. It's the nuts. Careful how you set it for a ground retrieve though. No tight crotches and leave a little bit more slack. To be fair, it is that good that yarking yourself back up to it isn't much of a problem anyway....
  5. Sorry fella's. Wrong forum. Should I take on the job and post the pic's to make up for it?....
  6. This morning's quotation visit: Customer: My Birch needs a good topping. Me: No it doesn't. It will die. Customer: I don't care if it does. Me: Do you want me to fell it then? Customer: No. I can put a bird box on the trunk. Me: Are you happy to have a 15 foot dead trunk next to your kids trampoline? Customer: Yes. Me: Not a great advert for my company, I'm afraid. I'm going to have to say no. Customer: OK. I'll get someone else to do it. AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH !
  7. Was on Julian Clary job with Tana Mahuta. Met him later after pollarding, then felling (everyone is entitled to change their mind) his "large Elm tree" (Poplar!). Nice guy, chilled out, paid on the nose with a Coutts cheque! Even planked him a picnic bench out of his Poplar! (Nice one Julian, £350 please.)
  8. Sick of crap waterproof jackets that either stop being waterproof after a couple of washes or make you sweat like glassblower's a**e. Seems I'm gonna have to go Goretex, but don't really like the price tags. Help!

    VT

Climbed on a VT today for the first time. Bit weird at first, but think I'm going to love it. Any suggestions for types of carabiner? Also, does anyone have any negative comments about the VT?
  10. Totally agree about time wasters. Thing is, if we start charging for quotes, domestic customers will probably be even more inclined to give the job to some door-knocking do-as-you-likey. Just got to suck it up I reckon. It's sometimes worth going into a bit of detail during the original call. If someone wants 'a good trimming on the sides' of a big conifer, you can save yourself some diesel, can't you?
  11. Alright lads and lasses. First timer here (thanks Ross). Wet and cold = go to pub Wet and smooth-barked tree = go to pub Just wet = break out Goretex jacket, crack on as fast as possible. Then go to pub. No arguments, please. You know I'm right. Cheers!
