  1. Dave, is that you up a real pop in your avatar or is it a photoshop effort?

If it is real you could probably piss those ones I've been whinging about recently!

  2. Horrible tree Danny. Fell was the right call. Replant is a good call as well. Then it gives Dave and his crane some work in a few years time...

    CS38 tips

As above. No rush. You will p*** it Joe.
  4. That's a bit harsh mate. I thought it was one of my better efforts!
  5. Good effort! Do you not find knots take too long when lowering? Webbing slings are quicker IMO. Looked a tidy job.
  6. Side access tool box not a bad shout. Frank is spot on about the ram as well.
  7. Keep at it mate. Practice your climbing when you can. Good luck.
  8. Cerne, You are an example mate. Your posts on here have shown your willingness to learn, coming into arb later in life like I did. Great news, and good luck with the job. You have a good team behind you with the Arbtalk Massive!
  9. As I've said Mac, some are worse than others, and if it's the ones I'm thinking of I would say no. I'd climb them, but rigging big bits off the stem that is also my anchor? 50' pop regrowth? No way, Jose. I'm probably being a pussy and it's two p***-easy ones! Let your lad make his own judgement on the day. As long as he knows it sometimes takes bigger balls to say no.
  10. Oh man! Blown me away! Reminds me of the good old days on my Raleigh Grifter. Not. One of the best things I've ever seen. Wouldn't lend him my chipper, though....
  11. Have heard the Iveco's are ok as well. Yes the D/C is a bit long, but 90% of our work is domestic and we manage. If you buy a single cab,you spend half your day loading/unloading gear. I know, I used to have one. There isn't a single vehicle out there that is perfect for every tree job. Think about the main type of work you will be doing and choose accordingly. I'm off to buy a Smart car and a B&Q garden shredder...
  12. She's not with me all the time, Lee. She sleeps on her own side of the bed.
  13. Why is everyone obsessed with towing? If you need a chipper that weighs more than 1000kgs, you need something a bit bigger than a Transit to chip into! I have 115 PS D/C tipper on an '06 plate (ie old shape), and it's nearly perfect (apart from obvious off-road, weight restriction issues). Geared a bit low for me - I'm empty 1/2 the time, so it's pretty revvy. New shape has better aspirated engine with 6-speed box. If your lucky you'll get one with a quad bench in the back which doubles as a tool locker. Go for it mate. Cost you, mind.
  14. I'm not suggesting you are working outside the limits of your lads capabilities or the gear you use. It is only my opinion that having two climbers up there increases the risk without having any massive benefits. Christ, we've all been shaken around a bit at times, but I'd feel pretty bad if my saw lashed my oppo round the chops (love the Dolly Parton analogy Dean). You have your way of doing it mate. Fair play to you. Climb safe.
  15. Tim, what sort of state is it really in? Also don't get the 200 year old thing. That's a baby.
  16. That's thinking outside the box Dave, and I like it. Reckon I could deck 3-6 a day with the right machine. I know what you think of MEWP's, and don't use them a lot myself. MEWP/crane combo and you'd be flying. Problem is the owners of this park are tight as, so want to mince about doing odd trees here and there when caravan owners whining gets really bad, instead of getting some big plant in and sorting the whole lot.
  17. Love 'em pesonally. For all reasons mentioned. Some big untouched ones down here are truly spectacular.
  18. That's a lean alright! I bet you a pound that job was more tricky than it looked. All handballed out?
  19. RobDog, could you elaborate a bit here mate? I think I get it, but not quite. Don't have any ascenders.
  20. Thanks mate. Some nice stuff on there. Hospital again today, seems to be responding ok to drops and creams. Back in Monday. Side effect of the drops is huge sensitivity to light. Been down to Boots and bought classic flip down / clip on shades. I'll look the bollocks at Capel tomorrow!
  21. Bring him Mick. My bitch loves Jacks. I will be on a lead. Wearing a gimp mask.
  22. Have already said no. You know what it's like, some are more dodgy than others. Would have been more helpful if he'd asked me to look at it with him on an individual tree basis. He does climb, but has gone wobbly on one of these pops before, and I had to finish it with less than 6 months experience. Caking myself. He doesn't seem to understand he would make MORE money with a MEWP or crane in, and the job would be a lot safer. Have a look if you get the chance Wellwell. Would like to know what you think.
