  1. Love 'em pesonally. For all reasons mentioned. Some big untouched ones down here are truly spectacular.
  2. That's a lean alright! I bet you a pound that job was more tricky than it looked. All handballed out?
  3. RobDog, could you elaborate a bit here mate? I think I get it, but not quite. Don't have any ascenders.
  4. Thanks mate. Some nice stuff on there. Hospital again today, seems to be responding ok to drops and creams. Back in Monday. Side effect of the drops is huge sensitivity to light. Been down to Boots and bought classic flip down / clip on shades. I'll look the bollocks at Capel tomorrow!
  5. Bring him Mick. My bitch loves Jacks. I will be on a lead. Wearing a gimp mask.
  6. Have already said no. You know what it's like, some are more dodgy than others. Would have been more helpful if he'd asked me to look at it with him on an individual tree basis. He does climb, but has gone wobbly on one of these pops before, and I had to finish it with less than 6 months experience. Caking myself. He doesn't seem to understand he would make MORE money with a MEWP or crane in, and the job would be a lot safer. Have a look if you get the chance Wellwell. Would like to know what you think.
  7. I'll be the bloke with the yellow lab on a lead when I'm near Miick then!
  8. Quick one - can I bring my dog to Capel tomorrow?
  9. Ha ha! She's a beauty. Move the targets, not the tree! Save our Oak!
  10. You're looking at about £900 mister. Do you want any of the chippings?
  11. Appreciate that Pete. Cheers.
  12. I appreciate two climbers can rig more quickly than one, but realistically how much time would you save in this situation? We have done it a couple of times, high climber rigging conifer tips, low climber cutting bottom of vertical stems. BUT, there was no shock loading, each climber had a separate anchor and the lowering point was on a separate stem. Climbers were separated by approx 20'. Worked ok, and saved a bit of time in a tight drop zone. When any climber goes for a shock ride it's bad. When he has an unnecessary 90kgs beside him it's worse. This thread has turned into a bit of a 'everyone is marching out of step apart from me' situation.
  13. It's not so much not being up to the challenge. It's more 'I don't really want to die yet'. Climbers with far bigger balls than me have declined to work on them in the past. I only did it years ago because in Janey's words I was an expendable trainee climber who didn't understand the perils of poplar regrowth. The problem is there are about 400 round this caravan park. You might do 1 or 2, but your luck will run out eventually. I've already said 'not without a MEWP or crane'. His stock response is 'well I can't afford one with the price I've put in'. Just wanted to see what the general consensus was, and I appreciate you really need to see a job personally to make your mind up. Worked for him for six years on and off, and never refused anything before, even when it was running down my leg! Must be going soft.....
  14. Been asked to sub on job taking down some poplars in a caravan park (similar targets to Mick's 4-pops thread). These beasts were pollarded in 1988 at 30' and now have 50' regrowth on top of that. They constantly lose stems from weak union points. Did one a few years ago and told the bloke I wouldn't do another without a MEWP. He hasn't taken that on board. Everything will have to be lowered from these weakened stems because of the targets, and they are not close enough together to tie in to adjacent tree. Oh, and most are manky in that typical 'I'm a poplar and I've been topped before' way. Comments please gentlemen.
  15. I too wear leave-in-for-a-month soft contact lenses. If I have to leave off them for a bit can anyone recommend some specs that won,t steam up / fall off my head / generally annoy me this summer? Thanks.
  16. Yikes! After days of pain I've just been diagnosed with an ulcer on my eyeball. More tests tomorrow. Anyone experienced same? How serious can it get? Doc seemed a bit cagey.
  17. I get a strange tingling of satisfaction every time a Poplar is felled.... Good call.
  18. Don't want to turn into a righteous ex-smoker, but when my mates walk in from a fag outside the pub - they stink! Still like the smell of a freshly lit Marlboro, but have switched my head into 'non-smoker' mode. I am a lot more productive at work as well. Used to have too many fag breaks!
  19. 3 weeks in and I'm off the fags for good! Thanks for all the tips, but the biggest one is that you really have to want to pack in. If you don't, you are wasting your time. I wanted to. And now have an extra £40 a week to spend! Hurrah! I can pay my staff more!
  20. You are all wrong. I normally have 4 climbers for this sort of thing. Then it is twice as quick as that vid. My groundies currently have a contract out on my life....
  21. Never took massive amounts, 1/2 reco. dose of Maximuscle Cyclone. Took it to help recovery times after hard work days and training. Never overcooked it. Maybe it's a side effect of getting old! Switching to whey protein for a bit. You are meant to take regular creatine breaks anyway!
  22. Klaymeb, is that really you on your avatar? It's a blinding picture. Even if it's not you should charge Stihl for it!

  23. SWB not there on Friday? Stevie no! I owe you muchos cerveza for the NFU tip. Guess I'll see anyone on Friday around Jonesie's at some point.
