  1. I'd want £300. Whores have definitely outstripped woodcutters in the wages stakes.
  2. Was that on the A696 north of Ponteland mate? It's mine, all mine.... Unfortunately nothing to do with our branch, certainly not in recent centuries. Lovely place mind. The lake is worth a look.
  3. Can't fault Arborwear, and my Snickers have also been brilliant. I haven't tried the ladies, like.
  4. It's a hard thing to pick up on your own mate. Half a day with a good climber can open your eyes. I was lucky enough to work with a few gun climbers like Rich Rule, Gumpy and Ross Smith. If it wasn't for them I'd probably have just kept buying bigger and bigger ladders.
  5. No one forces anyone to use any particular system or discipline. Conny hedges? It doesn't really matter IMO. Long ascents on a Prussick? Different ball game. I'm not bothered by what other people do, but it concerns me that young lads will wear their bodies out by not adopting at least some more modern, ergonomic techniques. Bill, pulling yourself up with your arms on a VT isn't what it's about, invest in a foot ascender man.
  6. Both. Depends on the weather.
  7. I'm nowhere near Lincs Rog, but I regularly give timber away. It suits me sometimes on certain jobs where haulage outweighs value. Be warned though, it's only gnarly less desirable stuff that's usually a pita to process. The 'ton/tonne - m3' issue has no simple answer. Green unseasoned timber contains more water and a m3 of this is obviously heavier (you wouldn't want to burn it!). There is also a vast discrepancy between weights of different species, even at the same moisture content. £140 for 2.5m3 of seasoned hardwood? Good value if it is what it says, and will save you a lot of time and sweat.
  8. Keep on top of that battery Will, exactly the same thing has happened to me. I'm like a clucking junkie without my e-cig, but I've been off the smokes for 2 1/2 years now and could never go back. Regarding vaping, avoid the cheapo devices, they're crap. Quitting without vaping is obviously best, but at least I'm a vaper not a smoker now, and feel richer and better for it.
  9. I got my Cougar puke from Nod, climb ddrt and srt on it, love it.
  10. I'm guessing the bottom was wanted as a post of some kind? Nice vid.
  11. Seems us arbs have a lot of common interests, and are generally sound and don't rip each other off. Mountain bikes, shooting, snowboarding etc. We should set up a mini in-house eBay thing on Arbtalk to give each other first dibs. Steve could take 10% commission to put back into the costs of running the site. We could call it 'Shite Corner'.
  12. Cracking views Sandy. Whereabouts?
  13. I'd get some sawdust on it. Well done on getting your 30/31 by the way. As Felix said, your machine skills are a big plus. Never lie on a CV, never put anything negative.
  14. I've never used anything other than Stihl cheapo HP. How would they tell anyway?
  15. That's harsh Peter. I drink my pints of wine much more slowly these days.

    Chain wear ?

It's certainly true about Husky bars. The chain on my 540 was showing some signs of wear after I'd put 30 or 40 Techlite bars through it.
  17. By the way, no one could ever bore me to death talking about wine.
  18. Merci mon ami. Bon nuit. (Pinot noir).
  19. My tuppence worth it's a fantastic saw with a few issues. None when it's running, it's unbeatable imo. Hot start is sometimes an issue. I have been known to swear. Tighten everything that can be tightened whenever you get the chance (you'll need a variety of tools unfortunately). The recoil unit is also badly designed, the pawls snatch when they feel like it sometimes after countless smooth starts ( yes I always use the decomp). I've got no sympathy for people who insisted on 'leaving it on tickover for a tank to run it in' then complain about it. You need to rev the tits off it out the box into some timber for ten minutes without stopping. I bet not many did that, the ones whinging about autotune etc.? Good saw. Could be great. Get an xpg. Those heated handles are worth the extra £40.
