  1. Dubai is a funny one. Camel. Land Rover. Range Rover. Ferrari. Range Rover. Land Rover. Camel.
  2. She did win (ish) a general election Mark. Syria? Not our fight. Pleased ISIS are getting a hiding, but still not our fight.
  3. Appreciate the plaudits fellas, but I’m pretty much a conduit for the stuff I’ve learned through Arbtalk and the people I’ve met through it in the last decade. Steve has to take the credit there. You’ve contributed enough in here over the years Dan, you at least deserve some help when it sounds like you need it. I look forward to having a beer with you, along with many others I’ve yet to meet, one day. I don’t want to meet you on aldishelfstackers.com or something. Which is where Joe Newton will end up, the cheeky little fukker.
  4. Cutting the amount of days you work will fix that mate! I try to be pretty vague about dates, I try and work with the weather a bit. Nowt worse than booking in a slippy beech rj three weeks ahead then finding out it’s lashing down and you have no plan B. I ring Mrs. Miggins the night before and say we can rip her bush out instead. I totally understand that my business model doesn’t suit bigger firms.
  5. Feast or famine John, for sure. I’d be banjaxed without my regular clients. I’ve noticed in this age of 24 hour delivery if you start telling new customers there’s a six week wait they tend to go elsewhere.
  6. ?? Joe’s advice is sound as well, that’s pretty much what I did.
  7. It’s definitely partly that Martin, I bet a lot of folks haven’t ventured in their gardens since November. It’s also partly that people want work done, but don’t want boots across their waterlogged lawns, so they haven’t picked the phone up yet. The work is building up, just in time for nesting season.... Keep your chin and prices up Dan, dropping either isn’t the answer (insert bitter learned from experience emoji here). I’m looking forward to a ‘I can’t cope - I need a Mog/Bandit/Crane’ thread from you in June....
  8. Sounds tough Dan. Stick at it if you can mate, the prolonged winter has held everything back. When the weather gets it’s act together the phones will go mental. You need a long term plan as well though. If I had to climb full time now I’d be destitute.
  9. Have you ever had hard times in the industry mate?
  10. Fat groundie and trunk wraps for me then.
  11. Putin is being a dick. All he has to do is launch a chemical attack against the shitbags that are provocatively laying flowers down round a brave pensioners house in Hither Green, then we could be pals with him. America are pals with us, so they would have to be pals with him. Hurrah! No more dead Syrian kids! No nuclear apocalypse! As for you Vesp, I’m extremely disappointed. If I ever resorted to armed robbery in pensioners homes and got what was coming to me, and my family thought it was a good idea to put floral tributes at my VICTIMS house I would turn in my still warm grave. These people don’t have a different moral code, they don’t have morals. Since you’re such a massive fan of pertinent research, Google ‘Roy Blackman death’, then get back to me. I work for his sister now and then. You should have a chat with her.
  12. Petzl Vertex Vent. Thread over.
  13. DON’T post the firewood poem. It’s a crock of shite that has held suppliers back for years. Basically dry is good, not dry is bad. I like to mix it up because different woods give different ‘action’. Properly seasoned conifer gives loads of flame and crackling, and great heat, but you sacrifice longevity. A decent log store and basket is a must, whatever your taste.
  14. I would imagine Gustharts would be able to help you out Stu. More chance than Gamm-Vert anyway!
  15. There is actually an interesting section on this in the excellent ‘Norwegian Firewood’ book. I use the term ‘interesting’ fairly loosely, obviously. It has something to do with proximity to coastal areas. As you were gents, I’ve got pants to iron and socks to pair up.
  16. Apparently it has statistically been an average winter for rainfall. It doesn’t feel like it, does it? It is warming up down here in Kent though. Spring doesn’t seem to have had it’s Weetabix this year. It will even out, always does. Brace yourself for the following news - ‘Record breaking bbq summer’ ’Sizzle! - Bognor puts Benidorm in the shade!’ ’Hosepipe ban draws closer as the country goes into drought’.
  17. McGregor would never go that far mate.
  18. What possessed you to think he would be a good business partner? I get the debt collection bit, like.
  19. Darrin I’m joshing. Deadwooding is always job specific. I wouldn’t leave a 200mm dia 2-3m limb over a Porsche forecourt or orphans playground, for instance. Very species dependent as well. Trees and customers are all different.
  20. Time flies mate! ’remaining cans on Sunday’? Christ we must have been rough! I don’t work with Stevo regularly anymore, but we’re still good pals. He still talks about that weekend, it was canny epic.
