A new floor is a simple but messy job, its what the removal of the floor plate reveals that can be the real problem. Without exception there will be some rot in the bearers, it all depends on how bad they are. A new bed is often a better option particularly if you intend keeping the vehicle

That is, (if memory serves) an Atlas 3006. I have owned one. Its not strictly speaking a timber crane but it was OK on tree surgery waste. Not a bad crane, this one looks to have had a winch on it. The pipework looks a bit odd, there are only three pipes (you would expect to see 4), its incomplete and I don't see any services on the valve for a grab and rotator. You need to clear that up before you buy. On a 3PL they aren't as stable as on a vehicle. although this is still attached to the chassis of its donor vehicle. The linkages allow a lot of "slop" in use.

Nope, there is a bar of soap (posh stuff) upstairs in the bathroom, I have a small tub of swarfega under the kitchen sink but the stuff next to the washing machine (I had a look to satisfy your curiosity) is called Fairy non bio, that's soap as well you know.

Turn the double hook over and put one spring on put the flat blade of a screwdriver (biggest you have) through to loop of the spring and on to the end of the other side of the hook. Tension the spring by moving the screwdriver, the loop will slide down it and onto the hook.

Rope strop, harness, it all goes in on quick wash minimum temp maximum spin with whatever soap is next to the machine

I couldn't disagree more. Some of us have the misfortune of working in trees since way before such easy devices existed. We had to put up with the old school because that's all there was. I don't see why you should get away without the pain we had to put up with. It builds character you know. You new boys should have a mandatory 8 years on three strand and a three knot system ( you may progress to a prussik loop after 2 years). You can move on to advanced kit after 8 years or 5 if you have a doctors note (a letter from your mum won't cover it) :laugh1:

Try both and pick the one you like best, I prefer the SJ and as others have said it scores over the ZZ because it wont break. But....splitting hairs over which device isn't what working in trees is about. You should be able to work with whatever you have to hand be it a friction device a three knot system or hover boots.

What that means is its not due a thorough inspection until its 6 months into service All kit should be incorporated into your LOLER programme from day one, how are you going to make a weekly check otherwise?

Why are you buying your own kit? As far as the chord goes, a batch number wont tell your LOLER inspector anything about age and dates. Just give the item an individual number and a date into service. Next time you buy some, ask for a batch number if he really needs it.

I think that was a promotional vid, demonstration stuff. But what if its not about the log pile or fluffy bunny ecology? What if its about getting the tree out of the way so that something else can happen on that land? This week we have mulched about 20 tons that could have gone into firewood. Its value was low, the extraction was problematic and the flail is quick quick quick

What he said Fitting a greedy box isn't going to be a problem and, providing you did your job properly SVA isn't a problem either.

If you do end up with a second valve you can put the leg services on that and use the leg services for the grab and rotator. That way you have your grab and rotator on the same block as all the other major functions. Any clunky'ness is then down to the operator.
