  1. To what end? Its an impossible situation. The linked photo was more about pre / post 2013. Different wording but same meaning now they dropped the weight relativity thing.
  2. How can they? A pre 97 cat B licence holder will also have a B+E D1+E C1+E (<8250kg) ect You cant have a PRE 97 cat B & not have the +E bit.
  3. Eh? Pre 97 you have LOTS of cats & +E Post 97 you get very few cats & no +E
  4. There used to be a change in 2013, its now been removed. It was re the trailers MAM not being more than the vehicles unladen weight. So now its just pre or post 97 in effect. Just spotted you have already mentioned this.
  5. You will be in the tacho weights. Its now over 3500kg INC the trailer. However exemptions do apply.
  6. That site has shakes that are tapered or straight. Some even have one saw cut face too.
  7. 1, So you will need a steeper roof to start with to allow for the extra kick up that will be flattening it out. The shingles are 10mm at the thick end (about 1mm at the thin end 450mm later). Thats a 30mm step on a triple layer if the shakes are the same at both ends. That will reduce the effective pitch by about 10%. 2, Try stacking a row of books keeping each book in full contact with the next. With the thicker the books you cant get a triple layer without a very short exposed face. So many more rows will be needed. 3, With slate I think you only have a double thickness at any point but not my thing. Nor is shingling really just read up on it did a bit with someone that knows what they are doing & then did mine. Tiles are even thicker but tend to only be single layer & the joints are overlapped. Playing on the floor now with DVD cases This website recommends a minimum pitch of 1 in 3 for shakes & 1 in 4 for shingles on normal roofs.
  8. Re the taper. These are my thoughts & not based any any thing else. It would be hard to get the double or triple layer on the first row & then neatly lay the second & third rows without it. I would also say that the min roof pitch would be higher with no taper.
  9. No harm done
  10. Yes & yes. First one is the last day of shingling. The other one was taken earlier this year.
  11. I think its because:- When cut you are opening up all the cells & cutting the structure. Cleaving leaves cells & structure intact.
  12. I think it was actually on this site that I read it (might have been the welding site as they seem to have the same payment problems). Sure that someone was having trouble getting paid & the guilty party was using that as a reason to not pay. I have been googling & most of the info is not from the UK. It does seem that in the UK after 30 days you can charge interest even if not in the T&C's unless the terms for payment were longer. A good tip I have picked up is to actually specify a date that the payment is due rather than on receipt or in 30 days. Even if its the same day for some reason people pay on time that way.
  13. That pic was while we were doing 4500 shingles for my roof. I think we would still be at it if doing them as shakes (I think I am right that shingles are cut & shakes are split). The blocks are cut in various widths to give a random look to the roof. Hand split also takes more wood & is harder to fit as they are not an even thickness.
  14. Rookie mistake. If you have no payment terms that say when the payment is due then it can never be over due. I am sure that there was big case where this happened.
  15. This is the one my mate uses. He had it made to his specs. After each pass you throw the lever to change the angle the blocks sit at.
  16. IVA = Individual Vehicle Assesment IE a test that your self built trailer will need to pass before it is legal. This covers the things you need to condiser when designing & building it. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/iva-manual-for-categories-01-02-03-and-04-trailers
  17. If its the engine/pump, hold the tracking levers fully open & winch / tow it out.
  18. I have found another company that can alter the MAM & GTW of pickups. Some of the models covered for uprates to 3500kg include: Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, Nissan Navara, Land Rover Defender, VW Amarok, Ford Ranger. SvTech - Pickups
  19. Just typical of office wallahs sticking there pencil (2HB) in places they know sweet FA about. This will pander to the fly (can I use fly when they dont leave the ground?) by nights (ah they might also trade by day too) & hamper (no food involved) the more legitimate.
  20. Same here.
  21. Not sure I get the idea of the pond to raise humidity then you have mesh sides & open ends to let it out. Our tunnel has a normal sized door at each end that are left open for most of the year & it is very humid.
  22. I dont think I have made any mention of recent changes to the tacho laws? The recent changes to the O licence laws do encompass more people as the 3500kg weight now includes the trailer. There are however LOTS of exemptions re the O licence rules. Its your call if you want to look for the many post on this or not. Horse to water & all that. I read that to say once its prepared for sawmilling its a taxable activity. Just because its taxable does not make it non forestry. A timber harvester driver is forestry but his profits will be taxable. It just (in simple terms) ownership & profit from that re sale of the forest or unprocessed product of a forest that is non taxable. It is not saying what is or is not forestry. You would also have to look at the deminimis rules as a small amount of processing is still allowed if it is needed to make the product marketable.
  23. Again not my area but I am sure that there are exemptions for private horse transporters. Read the attached doc to see if there is any exemptions for you. A_guide_for_horsebox_and_trailer_owners.pdf
  24. When you cant see them out the back window or in the door mirrors its a pain. Yes short are a pain too. Most short ones are also narrow. My 750kg trailer was great behind the Rover 25 as it could be seen in both door mirrors. Behind the two Astras or the Renault RX4 it was terrible as it could not be seen at all unless the mesh sides were on or I fitted poles/flags to the rear corners. So the actual reversing was ok as the wheels & drawbar relationship was ok, you just could not see what it was doing till it had come round to far.
  25. The legislation & guidance cover all of this. Links & docs have all been posted before. The exemption form like a lot of government paper work can be very badly worded. If you employ someone to do all your deliveries & no other work then they are a driver. If however they do a multitude of activities then they are not even if they do a few deliveries in a week. The main activity would be processing the raw materials in to fire wood. The deliver is a small part of the process. It is also worth noting that the driver would still be covered by the UK & possibly the EU working regulations & records will need to be kept of ALL work done in a week not just the driving parts. In the end it is up to you what you want to do & what you spend your money on. Those that have already invested in tachos ect will obviously defend that choice. As in most things take advice from as many sources as possible then do your own research, but do make sure that they dont have an axe to grind re selling you a course, equipment or service. It makes no difference to me if you fit a tacho or not. Yes I do sell trailer training courses but I doubt very much that there are many on here within my catchment area & even if they are having a tacho or not would not influence their choice in course supplier.
