  1. It`s bacterial canker (Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. fraxini), it`s rarely serious. I can`t see any major cracking. It doesn`t look particularly bad to me from those pictures.
  2. I`ve got a double snapper, I even used it once... If it`s over hard surfaces I`d just go and get it.
  3. It does look like mycelium so you`re probably on the nail with A. mellea
  4. Are we honestly suggesting that natural crotch rigging is bad practice? How is this in any way breaching any regulations?
  5. I`d say you were correct.
  6. As long as you understand the forces and don`t overload the kit I don`t see a problem with that. People used to use topping strops, the bend ratio is less than ideal. I`ve used that setup in the past. Just make sure the D shackle doesn`t come undone. Having said that for the price of a pulley that will last for years....
  7. The cocoon looks nice but I do think the pulley gets stuck less. Just my experience. It`s worth getting the longer pulley saver if you do a lot of larger take downs. Its great to have a top anchor to set up heavier lowering on big stems.
  8. Personally I think the one without the cocoon retrieves better.
  9. Keep positive Sean. Your updates have been both heartbreaking and inspiring.
  10. Good to hear you still have a sense of humor. Still wishing you good and speedy healing.
  11. Heal well Shaun. There`s lots of people thinking of you and sending happy thoughts.
  12. If it hasn`t had leaves for four years it`s dead. That will make the bark peel off. It`s just part of the decay process.
  13. Homebase do a mallet one side rubber one side nylon for £10 - 15, they do the job lovely.
  14. It is Gano, the mycelium in the tubes may suggest it`s saprophytic. I`d want to quantify the decay. It does appear to have put on adaptive growth on the roots and butt.
  15. A cutting from the cross section is useful.
  16. Hi Matt, thanks for posting that. It`s the first time I`ve actually seen that video.
  17. The job was in Gloucester. Yeah it was a bit different, a different toy to play with.
  18. Thanks. To be honest I`m not sure where it came from or how far it was, the job was run by a company call Safety Boat who work the rivers around Gloucester, we were just there as the arb contractor side. It took a day for the boat to get to the job and a day to get back.
  19. [ame] [/ame] This job happened last year. We were asked to help remove one standing pop and one that had fallen into the river. After exploring a number of options it was decided that using a crane barge was the best solution. This is the first video I have made. As I was doing the cutting I could only photo/ film so much of the job so the video is rather crude but you should get the jist.
  20. Looks like fire damage in pic 3. There`s a number of things wrong. Presumably they want you to talk about it`s various issues.
  21. The 360tes is a great saw. It`s slightly prone to chucking it`s chain off and the filler holes are a minor problem, the timber dogs could be bigger too. However it`s got loads of power and is a robust professional standard saw. If I owned one climbing saw this would be my choice at the moment.
