1. It`s becoming boring. We will continue to upgrade security.
2. Just a warning to people. We got broken into again last night. Nothing taken this time. Not much to take anyway at the moment. Please be aware of where you keep your kit, how well protected and how well insured it is.
3. Sorry to hear that mate. We lost a load of stuff a couple of weeks ago. It sucks.
4. Yes he is. He is a self employed employee. This is distinct from a bona fide sub contractor. As such he is covered by his employers PL. Were he a bona fide sub contractor he would need his own PL and his boss would need to be insured for use of sub contractors. There is a very clear distinction.
5. No you don`t, as an employee that is covered by his public liability. You may be wise to have personal injury cover though.
6. Hi, If you are part time or temporary then self employed is fairly normal for small companies. Assuming he has insurance then you will be covered by his public liability (which he should be happy to confirm he has in the same way you would be happy to show him your tickets) and also by employers liability (which he must have).
7. Cheers David, more for the collection Jesse, thanks, that`s another definite possible, I`ll consider that as well. I wonder if I. cuticularis might dry like that.
8. It`s from `Fungal strategies`. Not heard of the other two. Have they written books?
9. Hmmmm. Thanks for the reply David. That looks like a possible suspect. I've just read that Oak can often compartmentalize P. robustus. Would this maybe explain the dead fruiting body?
10. This one is defeating me. It was at a height of 4.5m close to an occluded wound on a declining Beech.
11. There are other things that make ash leaves die back but you do get Chalara on older trees it just tends to be more difficult to spot. Older ash trees also `die back` without chalara. You need lab tests to confirm Chalara on foliage.
12. There is provision to use the chip as biomass which is mentioned somewhere in the link. It also talks about burying. As far as I can tell these are only recommendations which the FC acknowledge themselves may be updated as time goes by. The intention seems to be to only really to slow down the inevitable spread.
13. Forestry Commission - Chalara ash disease - Disposal and removal That`s the best I can find. Nothing seems to be enforced as far as I can see but burn on site seems to be the best option where possible.
14.

Hi Simon, I`ve seen you around and about.
Thanks for the offer thats extremely generous of you. I think we are okay for chippers. There is still a tracked one and we have another friend with a tow behind, but if we get stuck I`ll give you a shout. It`s always good to know people with extra chippers anyway. My number is 07818 078959 if you ever need to get in touch.

15. Cheers people. We`ll see what the insurance produces, up the security and carry on Unfortunately these things happen. I can`t be bothered being angry about it. A few friends are lending us some tools so at least we can work this week.

17. Why not call around local companies and find people who need a freelancer. That will cover whatever days you don`t have your own work. That way you can grow your business organically. Whilst the idea of not having secure work is intimidating, if you want to start a business you will have to take the plunge at some point from secure work into providing your own work or at least freelancing. Generally contracts come later but just because that`s the experience of most people doesn't mean it will be your experience.
18. There are better Mattheck books than body language of trees. The pauli the bear book and updated guide to VTA will do fine. Don`t know if these are still in stock but worth a look Tree Roots in the Built Environment | books | Gustharts
19. Datura stamonium. Pretty flowers, very poisonous. Same family as potato i think
20. Phased removal is a myth. If it`s gonna heave it`s gonna heave. It depends if it`s on a shrinkable clay soil.
21. As I understand it if all of the residual wall is greater than 30% thats fine. If one of the readings is below 30% then you need to asses the tree in it`s setting in more detail. The idea being that a tree will fail at it`s weakest point, so if you have 3 t/R readings of 75% and one of 10% you would consider your management options as the likely point of failure is at the 10% area. In very general terms.
22. I get about 3 months out of mine. Depends how much you use it and how careful you are with the wooden brake and doing fast descents.
