This! Possibly BP, possibly the RHA, possibly linked to some form of opposition politics - basically it’s a load of spin to achieve a goal, and Joe-public have swallowed it hook, line and sinker.

My reference to the prv was the assumption that there is one factory-fitted to the unit, which would allow the saw’s progress through the cut to be moderated to not stall the saw/damage the bar etc. What actually happens if you try to cut timber?

Have you tried it in timber, or is it just too fast cutting with no load? Does the saw stall in timber? I’d imagine that ram should have a prv to allow it to keep a constant pressure on the bar without stalling the chain - the speed of the bar closing is almost irrelevant as it will slow when it pushes against the timber.

If you end up keeping any (but not all) of the poplars then I’d suggest not using Glyphosate/Ecoplugs on the stumps of the trees you remove as you may inadvertently also poison the retained trees due to root grafting (only an issue with same-species neighbouring trees). -
Cheap and simple if it’s within range is a baby monitor in the shed with the other half with you in the house. Layers are everything - don’t tell anyone how you’ve set it all up. Make it difficult to access/egress (not just the shed itself, make it difficult to actually get to) and use bespoke (home made) layers to add confusion. Security lights/alarm/dogs/bear traps/ quicksand/anything that will alert you and slow the thieving rats down (it doesn’t have to cost a fortune). The fewer people that know about the possibility of valuable kit being stored on site the better - a sign written van, piles of logs and woodchip etc on show are pikey-magnets.
