  1. Global warming will do scupper that mate. You'll just end up with a tan!
  2. You're better off having just a pinto and short hitch and a length of rope as a long lanyard or as a very short climbing line. Nothing else will really work as well IMO
  3. I wonder if there will be more injuries through one handing or using battery saws for cuts that are a bit beyond the capabilities of the saw
  4. I've made some really good mates from Arbtalk and it has genuinely made me a better worker as I wouldn't have found out half the things that I have done from sitting down and reading about them. I remember joining in 2008 and thinking it was the best thing ever as you could ask people about the things that you wouldn't normally see like advanced knots or new gear. If anything, I miss how it used to be where it was a lot more focused but overall, I'm just happy that its here. If it wasn't I think I'd still be climbing on a Blakes hitch and talking to the wife every evening. Cheers Steve!!
  5. I kind of thought this also. Having recently broken an anchor point in an oak using a srt base tie, I'd say the theory is spot on. I would have 100% trusted the anchor drt. It snapped having climbed the whole tree, but when swinging to another tree it failed. Do you think it was the lateral force that did it?
  6. I know lots of people talk about the maths involved with base ties but I often wonder in practice if it's the case. If the rope is base tied and spread through some forks I don't know if it would be much more than a top tie
  7. Interesting. Never heard of this from anyone else. I don't think it is in the AA best climbing practice booklet. I did my rigging ticket in Feb and no mention anywhere of having a rescue line installed. I think this is something very few people do or think they should, and it is not even recommended let alone best practice. Rope guide Twinline comes into it's own here. You automatically have an access rescue line in the tree
  8. I clip the HASS into my Prince Albert. Keeps it off the chest harness nicely. Have noticed a bit of damage on the end but the HASS is holding up well
  9. If you're working as a subby with new people, I can never see why people don't spend 20 minutes while people are shifting the gear around site, showing them the climbing system. If you need a rescue, base tie is the winner. If you think someone you're working with is a bit of a cockwomble, then do a base tie at the top of the ladder then there is less chance of it being undone unless they need to. Bang the ladder up and its quick as.
  10. Must be the one of the only Standards Bolam has
  11. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F132859960551 This is very similar to mine
  12. Go on ebay and get one from China. Less than a tenner and much better than you can get in this country
  13. I hope some of you lot read the eBay listing that I'm going to put up when I win!
  14. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes
  15. Good man. Hearing more and more young lads who are seriously dependent on one substance or another.
  16. I disagree personally. If you have signed a contract and broken that then there you go. If its a surprise test I might think differently but if I was up a tree and there was a complete wreckhead at the bottom of it, I wouldn't be impressed. Met a lot of people that say they only have 2 or 3 joints every night and its not an addiction...
  17. Agree wholeheartedly with everything you say mate. Drugs (alcohol included) and the effects that it has on mental health are massively overlooked in the industry imo. *Cue everyone going mad now.
  18. I saw more than one group of lads strolling around the Arb show last week in company branded work gear on smoking joints. I think this must be the luckiest group of employers you could imagine who are commenting on this thread if they have no-one working for them who partakes. They are 100% in the minority though
  19. Not sure about that mate! I'm just good at following instructions!
  20. I'd agree with Matty. Start with the rope wrench as you'll likely have all the bits already.
  21. Best description I heard was this is what happens when the clever kid in school stops letting you copy their homework. I don't see the problem with the ending that much, for 8 seasons everyone has been talking about going to Kings Landing and smashing it up and then when someone finally does, they all get the hump. There was nothing surprising about what happened when you take the emotion out of it and 'Game of Thrones' has proved time and again that it doesn't care about you. I don't get why anyone is shocked.
