  1. Followed by Christmas buffet for subbys and their other half’s. Pics taken at the end of the night so as not to be on the phone/ask permission. Nice venue though!
  2. Last day for the year, felling a few stems and shifting the wood
  3. So why comment on a post for consultants? Why comment at all if you’ve no interest in the job? Good luck Ligna Consultancy
  4. I would guess that he went in (via his lock which I'm guessing is one of the bottom 3, hence his predicament) someone came in (or out or in and out!) after (through their lock) and has "tightened" the loop when re-connecting their lock, effectively rendering the three lowest locks unless for being able to come in or out. Following?
  5. Have another look at the picture, the bottom 3 locks aren’t doing anything. Only the top two are making a loop
  6. All depends on the operator, and access. first time i worked with one, 8? years ago, it was painfully slow. The right operator however and they're very effective. Take the jib off if not needed to speed things up. Been a while since i last hired one in, done the work of 3 men who would have taken 1.5 days with a high risk of damage, in a couple of hours. With next to no cleanup (lowered straight into containers on the hook lift)
  7. Just use a regular soft link, larksfooted. when the shit hits the fan, they break
  8. Husky winch on a boxer loader
  9. Out of curiosity, what is the next chipper up? over 750kg, 35hp+, price?
  10. An island called Tjockö off the Swedish coast near Stockholm
  11. Island job today and rest of the week, 3 boats pushing the barge at a blistering 4 knots, still clearing up storm damage from January. good day for wildlife, white tailed sea eagle soared overhead, upto2.4m wingspan and can live to 40 years! Plus some elk on the way home (no pics, driving)
  12. Steel viper import morbark now as I understand a crane fed 3,5t chipper would be ace
  13. I get on well with Stihl advance gtx boots and woolpower socks. if really cold I’ve some hiking socks that has a thin inner sock and a thick outer one. Pretty expensive but works!
  14. @Mike Hill has a 340. Used it a few times, but many years ago, swing away engine seemed good for maintenance. Think it’s only really Jensen, Schliesling and maybe TP that offer compact big chippers Any opinions on these @PeteB? 15. Schliesling has to be top of the compact, big chippers. Are you looking at new or used Ben? 16. So we are gardeners after all! All these years getting needlessly annoyed at being called a gardener
  17. The reason it’s becoming a big thing (in Scandinavia at least) is it’s the first/only qualification that separates treefellers who spike/section fell and arborists. here people who fell trees through sectionfelling get confused and call themselves arborists, even the likes of husqvarna call sectionfellers arborists! ETW is a pretty basic easy exam. Read the book, learn the tree ident list and youre Good to go
  18. Agree with above, and a 10 second google search
  19. Anyone any opinions on an older (1990) Antonio carraro tractor with a 27hp Perkins 3 cylinder motor in? Motors a KH80475 What to look for and what to expect on these alpines? Front steer, front lift (not loader) front and rear hydraulics
  20. Your client would struggle to move brash effectively with a 1,5t digger and a bucket. Likewise, you'll struggle to dig a hole with your machine so not really a comparison imo! what's the transport costs? £70+vat+fuel+transport sounds very fair. A touch cheap but much more and it'd perhaps start to be unattractive - at the moment you and your machine are the cost of 2 guys, so you and the machine needs to be doing the work of 3 guys to have happy customers.
  21. Course or no course, you'll be working your way up. Having the tickets will make it easier to get given a chance.
  22. He'll obviously be running it as a LGV, CE licence, O-licence, running it on white, regular vehicle checks, same as any other road haulage outfit ?
  23. I still feel sorry for jack, had it been a load of chip or logs weighing exactly the same no one would have battered an eyelid! Wet chip weighing in at 400kg m3 in an 8m3 chip bin, 3200kg! In hindsight, customer adding on the extra work, time limit and no delivery possible from the merchant could have been a chance to make more money, you could have made two trips and charged double the transport cost that you’ve charged the customer now. coulda, woulda, shoulda
  24. Snowflakes mate, “oh look, a thread called overloaded, I bet I can get offended by something in there!”
