  1. SWB, have you seen the mens record video? Men do 50 feet, here its 13 seconds something.. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/tree-climbing-competitions/102-mark-chisholm-footlock-record.html
  2. Ladies do 40 feet.
  3. So how did Rich Kenyon get on? I agree with you jarnii in your first point but don't quite understand what you mean abotu the rescue situation. I just thought that the drt sytem would get in the way while srt'ing and so would be easier to install on the way up, but I can see why that would also be hard. If you intall the drt from the ground as originally described then you might as well go up on that sytem (slower agreed) and then your ready to work whenever with no switch overs. The there is no srt gear get rid of, the access line is tied off as before for a rescue and off you go. You could then simplify it and install a cambium saver with pulley from the ground and put your drt system in that and off you go, Are there retro points available yet? Its been a long time since I've seen that done in a masters. !
  4. Ok, 0.8kgs each so 1.6kgs added to the chipper.
  5. Couldn't you just tie a alpine butterfly on anywhere along the srt rope as you go up and then clip your drt system to that to work the tree? It doesn't need to be at the top.
  6. Of course you don't need to buy a new chipper! If you have a chipper with the side panels intact then you could add these to make it stay that way. I'll weight them and see, but they are not heavy.
  7. I know it likes sea level (or close too) don't know about latitude.
  8. It bolts into place using the bolt that hold the fixing bracket on, and fits snugly around the front edge of the side panel. It could do with some paint or more gaffer tape but hopefully it means that the panels are all there and not scuffed up which should help to maintain its appearance and therefore value. The next alternative would be to make new side panels that are flat and can be sign written and keep the originals in the loft to be put back on when it gets sold.
  9. These side panels are easily and often broken and not cheap to replace, so I thought about maikng a better protecter for them to prevent damge while reversing etc. This is what I came up with.
  10. This is additional to the chipper modifications thread, I started to think about ways to protect my new chipper from damage. When mine is put away, the trailer has to go next to it with the pick up hitches opposign each other. My old chipper got really bad scuffed where the pick up hitch on the trailer got pushed past the chipper every single day. I started off with just some gaffer tape to cover the edges of the side panels, this is really helpful as it stops them rattling so they won't wear off the powder coat paintjob on the chassis.
  11. Stu looking good in that video!
  12. You can use them to set another rope high in the next tree, even at the same height that you are already at i.e. horizontaly across from you. First you throw a throwline across to the next tree and let the throwbag hand done a few feet below the branch that you want. (bag needs to be quite heavy), then attach the grapnel to the throwline via a prissik loop. Then let the throwbag descend, this pulls the grapnel accross then a few flicks and the grapnel should catch the descending part of the throwline, then pull it back to you. Never tried it myself, sounds complicated, usually a groundie can help.
  13. Who? All I know is that I saw The Ramones live once, no need to go to a live gig ever again!
  14. The first two seasons were besterest! Now its all about sex and drugs, now I'm not being fuddy duddy but the first two seasons had much cleverer story lines, all about jacking the system etc. In the 80's we had "Bread" those cheeky scousers, now its Shameless, same same but different.
  15. NOt so much sunday hours, more like short notice price! If it can only be done this sunday then you will have to postpone that other £3000 job you were going to do this weekend. wink! Working sundays can be fun if the job is right. It can feel like a day off that spend doing tree work! As long as your happy with the job and the client then a little extra pay is all you should need to make it worthwhile. Soemtimes if the job or customer is crappy then no amount of money will make it worhtwhile working on a pubday!
  16. try the memebr called highly "educated arborist" he's based in Stonehouse. You would lose a few hours of your life though!
  17. Ok, no worries. Law is when the police turn up and arrest you for doing something "against the law" Police won't mind if you wear a thong at work although indecent exposure may be against the law! To clear up - you have to not hurt yourself at work! And the guidelines for not doing that are to wear the petzl type helmets along with the billion other guidelines.
  18. Ok. All the local farms are actually on Bathurst (with very few exceptions) land but I guess each farmer can do as he pleases. I think it may have been a fine bunch of arb types that left all the mess last year, hence no camping on site. The Daneway pub is lovely though, and as they advertise camping it would be the easiest and it has facilities etc.
  19. I think Petzl helmets have a five year lifespan, making them cheaper than husky balance etc. Agreed this guideline has come in already, but could we please refrain from using the word "Law".
  20. I was mostly just being a bit pedantic! BUT, this is a good example of risk assessment being a waste of time in many cases. As the majority of workers are under the same pressure as you "get given worksheet" etc etc, the primary point of the risk assessment gets overlooked, i.e suitable job for the conditions. I agree that it wasn't the rain or the tree or the deadness of the tree that caused the accident, it was in fact climbign a ladder alone that was the problem. I was going to get pedantic about the helmet, but someone has mentioned that already and I see another thread on the subject which I've not read yet. Like everyone else I'm glad he's ok, but climbign a ladder alone is in breach of the most basic safety guidlines, and a sackable offence. HOwever making climbers work in heavy rain (we all get caught out now and then) is not acceptable IMO.
  21. Mister tee, who are you trying to get an answer from?
  22. There is another pub, my old local, that might be a fraction closer, but only liek 1km closer if that. They don't officially do camping so I doubt they would have you lot. Some of the exhibitors stay there on the saturday night after they have packed-up as its often late then for trying to get home.
  23. Is that being run again this year?
