  1. I think the announcer said it continue next week, so I guess that episode will be shown then.
  2. If you can round off the edges it might be ok. My LA ask for stumps to be left high or ground out though. I don't know the official HSE view on it.
  3. But what do you mean by pulley? You can use a pulley with a blakes. All hitches are friction based.
  4. Stop posting its all really boring!! Is that the sort of thing you mean? Keep at it, you need some bad posters in order to appreciate the good ones, ying/yang, light/dark etc. Otherwise it would just be plain and banal. No one wants that.

3.30 for carling here! Soon to be 3.40, thats not even three for a tenner!!

Thats good, makes them a bit more appealing.

    Netbook

I was under the impression that they are only for web browsing? Nowt else.
  8. In the UK the police are not allowed to chase motorbike thieves if they (the thief) are not wearing a helmet!!
  9. I used to use it all the time. I know there is an issue that by adding more krabs you are increasing the chances of one krab cross loading so some would advise against it. As long as your a careful and the loads are smaller then its ok. As I get towards larger loads then I tie directly with the rope. Recently I got round to buying a 13mm bull rope for light stuff and I prefer to just tie that, it has a more simplistic/minimilist feel to it doing it that way.
  10. Another way of looking at it is, rock ropes protect you from a FALL of some distance(often quite a bit) In tree work you are not allowed to fall, we work in "work positioning" style. We do not "fall" cos we are tied in with minimall slack, so no need for shock absorbing ropes, just ropes that actually hold you where you are supposed to be.
  11. If you read too far into it you could come to the conclusion that every tree company must have a MEWP qualified operator on the books in order to carry out any tree work climbing or otherwise! If a MEWP must be considered, and not have the right tickets is not a justification to not use one, then that would follow that we must all have the tickets in order to make the decision not to use one based on other reasons! I'm not suggesting this is good, just the extreme version which is open to interpretation!
  12. Of course its iffy!! But you should never have to pay for a repair. Try not to break them, work round them, price accordingly etc but if you have to, or if you have an accident, don't worry just report the fault using the customer account number and it will get repaired. If you phone up and say I'm from abc tree care and I've cut a cable they will get the invoice book out! The only time I HAD to remove cables was 10cables through a plane tree that had to be rigged and the cables were in the drop zone. I had the run around from BT, even ended up in a call centre in India, and eventually the only thing that worked was finding a bt engineer and getting his foremans mobile number.
  13. I've been told by bt to just cut wire with snips if we have to and they will come and repair them later. It cheaper for them to do that than drop the lines an come back and re connect. Also, if you customer is obliging, get them to phone bt after you've gone and report a fault. Make sure they don't mention your name, and don';t mention that the fault is that the wires have been cut on purpose! BT have to repair faults free of charge!

    Aero rescue

Generally aerial rescue is to get someone out of the tree, by which time you should have paramedics on hand to deal with them. Having said that, anything you can do to help them on the ground is good, but will depend on what has happened to them. If you get called to a rescue and no one knows how long they have been hanging then recovery position may not be right but you hope that ambulance is virtually there by then so its not your problem. If the accident has just happened and ambulance is miles away then recovery position will do for now!
  15. But then you'd need 20 jobs like that to make up a week, to pay for all the kit your using. Take it easy and do it with minimal kit, otherwise its almost like working for a living, none of us want that!

    Ascenders

Its a fact that kong ascenders were designed for caving. Thats why they have glow in the dark handles.
  17. Get an old chainsaw file and heat it up red hot! Then burn a hole through the end of the climb line about an inch from the end. (I'm assuming you don't have spliced eyes, or else you would just tie the throwline to the eye!) Then cut a short bit of throwline, thread it through the hole and tie it into a loop using a double fishermans. You now have a loop to clip a mini clip to and onto the throw bag.

  20. Thats lucky, my avatar is scared of your avatar!!
  21. Someone was suggesting 3x400 quid, yes I actually worked today, so need a sleep!
  22. Sure if you own one bring it, but Mr stockbridge doesn't so its not relevant. Using a mewp put the risk down to zero Not sure thats true. you could always give some of the profit away to the telephone company never ever pay a phone company to put a wire back!! get the phone line owner to report a fault (lend them a mobile if you have to) BT promise to repair faults in 24 hrs, free of charge! Risk of damage is huge on that job theres loads of space, you shouldn't be anywhere near hitting one of those homes.
