  1. I had to go to a bike shop to get an old inner tube, if it were a punctured one of mine I'd have repaired it not binned it!!
  2. Each climber is still in his/her own harness. You can add additional lines to the srt lines to use for lowering, but yes the two climbers are both anchored on one line. THe SWL of a climbing line is over 200kgs.
  3. Yes I shortened it a bit. Cant remember if I untied it, maybe just added an overhand knot behind the original stopper.
  4. I suppose the final conclusion was that a lowerable srt line was better. But in my opinion this only works with your own trusty groundies, if they are good climbers it helps.
  5. We've been through this. The conlusion of this rescue (are you talking about the rescuer ascending the same srt line as the climber?) was that, although it was possible, it was not practical. a. because the rescuer would have to be chris cowell or else your dead, and b. he would need 200 quids worth of spare stuff with him to make the rescue. Which, if it were chris cowell then you'd be ok cos he's always got at least 200 quids worth of spare gear with him but you get my point!
  6. The only likely srt rescue that I can think of would be wasp attack!
  7. Just an extra bit of grip, thats all.
  8. Its all very good if your working with a team who have practiced that kind of rescue. Basic arial rescue ticket does not include that kind of thing and many freelance climbers work with different poeple every day. If you climb a tree using a ladder and alternate rope technique then you would expect to be rescued that way too? If you want to do srt/footlocking/jet pack or whatever, you should still expect that if you get rescued the likely hood is it will be via ladder and alternate rope technique so its not a requirement to set up some fancy rescue system. Of course, if everyones happy then set it up.
  9. Hope this works this time! Old bicycle inner tube!!
  10. Steve, it depends on your ground crew! Who your working with. If you don't trust them to lower you on a gri gri then just tie the srt line of at the base with a half hitch and running bow line. Just like a rigging line. Keep sharp objects, and not so sharp groundies, away from the tree until you've tied in as normal!
  11. No. But why is the report to be submitted to the council? Does the customer want to carry out some work on the tree? If so then your report can actually be a quote for work. If its to satisfy to the council that the tree is safe and requires no work then i would stay well clear of it!
  12. Thats a wash bag! thats ok if your on a camp site! (Do you see what I did there?)
  13. I'd be more worried about watching the one show, thats camp!
  14. Sounds good. I'm more often in Cheltenham, Moreton is a little out of my usual area. Will keep you in mind though.
  15. Well tree oficer is a different thing, they are District council, hence my not doing this oak, county not speaking to district etc. Work is at Blockley Primary school, so County organised but still needs district go ahead! Oak is only 8-10 inch dbh, nothing major, a few bags of chips though.
  16. You need an explosive personality to get away with it!
  17. It was only a small Oak, and the decision was based on the fact that they don't have planning permission, but as the client is Gloucester County Council you'd think they would have that sort of thing covered!
  18. I was supposed to taking down a small Oak just outside Moreton in Marsh on thursday, but the client has changed the work spec, deadwooding Corsicans now only! Sorry.
  19. Its good. I use it on a tree motion permanently. But I don't see how it would "save" your pelvis?
  20. No, its cheaky banter, in return for offering genuine advice I get to have a bit of fun at your expense too! Cheer up.
  21. As long as there is plenty of branches so that you can leave pegs!!
  22. Maybe leave one peg every 4-6ft on the rear or the stem if your nervous, but no more than that. One day you'll slip and see that you probably catch yourself before you get to the next peg anyway, after that no more pegs! When you get into rigging you definatly not want to leave any pegs.
  23. Its easier for people to see if you put the link in your post rather than just in the title http://www.hydrocut.co.uk/hy-crack.htm
  24. Yes I believe it is. Draper do bags of 5 bits, same size, that fit in socket. Find a draper dealer to order you in a bag, then you'll always have spares.
