    Ascenders

Going back to the original question, are you talking about double handled, or singles? Or both and every combination of uses? There are some excellent ways of using single ascenders backed up with chest ascenders, and use with foot ascenders. Many different type and uses.

    Ascenders

Two double handled ascenders or a pair of singles?
  4. I'm confused, is it 3 or 4 pops?
  5. Make it as many days as there are loads of wood, then you only drive there and back once each day, no need for an extra person on site when the truck is away. If you have the means to fit two trees worth of wood on one truck then its a two day job, even if that means getting an extra climber. Removing debris/logs/chips is waht costs time and money. The Mewp idea is daft, why give some of the profit away to another company. Getting them on the floor is not a result, all wood off site is the result your after. If it were all staying on site then you could charge more per day but take less days.

    Ascenders

I agree, big mess! Essentially the standard kong ascenders used by many are not designed for arb use, they are designed for use on two seperate fixed lines and this is hardly ever implemented in tree work. THey can be backed up to make them safer but again this is not always done. I would be very careful in saying that they are a good thing!
  7. 400 each, to get the job, but 450 ideally. 1 a day nice and steady. I'd rather take the woodchip and leave the wood though. Why does some one always suggest felling and re planting when that wasn't the question, and cost is obviously an important factor.
  8. Yes, with the croll in the middle. Don't think I have any pics and won't be using it for a few days at least.
  9. No worries, just difficult to see whats going on.
  10. Oh thats good news! Don't go for the tramadol then! Slipped disc would be the same pain but down to your feet and even to your toes, and as said before almost constant. I believe sciatica is caused by stiffness in the sacroiliac joints of the pelvis (I could be wrong) which requires lots of stretching and massage to relieve it and can be a semi permanent condition. Physio not doctors then, good luck.
  11. Andy is it sciatica or a slipped disc which is pressing on the sciatic nerve? Big difference! Sciatica comes and goes, slipped disc is more constant. By the sounds of what your saying, sitting makes it worse, standing after sitting worse still, I fear it may be a disc problem. Especially with felling work. Is it the Left leg? As for pain killers, you have a choice of paracetemol+ibuprofen (not nurofen it just costs more) the two together make a good painkiller and anti-inflamatory. nurofen plus is the same expensive crap + a small amount of codeine and some caffeine to speed up the process. You can buy paracetemol/codeine over the counter in 500/5 mg doses respectivley, add that to iboprofen and you have a good mixture. After that, th enext step would be more codien! Only the doctor can give you that, usually in 500/30 or 500/50 mixtures with paracetemol. and a better anti-inflamatory to add to that would be voltorol. be prepared to be a bit ill! The only thing that worked for me was tramadol+voltorol and I can't remember most of last year, but it was quite good fun! I had a herniated disc in L3/L4 left hand side. Constant working cured it but pain killers were the only thing that allowd me to work. I hope its not that bad for you. You need proffesional advice, not just doctors, chiropractic or osteopath would be better, but keep working whatever and if that means painkillers then do it.
  12. Where are you actually anchored while cutting? It shard to see where the rope goes.
  13. I use the frog system. Croll ascender attached as shown in the begining of this thread. Is there more details you need?
  14. min is 11mm. Its designed for tree work, ce marked etc its fit for purpose, loler inspector is an ass. Just another example of how stupid the system is.
  15. Deja vu! Do you know of any farmers who would pay extra for anything?
  16. Its quite possible that they have some chainsaw tickets among the employees, so they can clear trees etc prior to drilling. Save them subbing that part out. A groundie from the firm I used to work for works for them now, he had all tickets, so I would guess you saw correctly but they are not an arb firm though.
  17. You can create slide shows at http://www.slide.com/ Then the slide show could be hosted within a thread in the same way that you tube clips are embedded?
  18. It might be a company called "geotechnical". They do drilling and stuff like that but have many landrovers and other vehicles with a stegasaurus on them. http://www.geoeng.co.uk/
  19. With my old subaru in the bottom corner!!!
  20. Or this one that was the biggest in this street!!
  21. There was this one, but it was only the biggest in the street! I've never felled any really huge limes, there are plenty bigger ones at a castle I work at near here!
  22. It was in response to another thread about rigging v boshing v old style rigging, thats all. Thought it might be of interest to some. I know those who have been around longer and on TB will have seen it, no worries you don't have to look at them again. I don't recall which lime tree that is, but I've plenty of stuff I can re hash when I next get bored!
  23. What do you use as a "proper form"? is there any standard form? When I was taught, we were told to make up our own forms, which is what my spreadsheet does. It also counts all the gear, all the krabs, ropes, harness etc sepearatley, so you end up with a full inventory of kit. The main problem is that kit swaps about from one climber to another, so isn't necessarilly one the right list.
  24. Good point. I used to go and do it in ohter poeples sheds and I hated it. The I would need to charge as much as I would get for tree climbing or else its not worth doing, plus some office time at home typing it all up and keeping the spreadsheets up to date. At best its a thankless task. I'll do my own and any climbers that work for me and thats it.
  25. An mot takes an exact fixed amount of time, so an mot station can do x amount per day every day. Also the mot booth is often just a small part of the building which aslo does repairs etc so the insurance is for the whole business. Loloering is a pain. If the gear is not marked properly then that has to be done, so I'm not surprised no one will give a price. I don't do it anymore as its such a pain.
