  1. If you ignore splitting the log in two and then measure the inner surface for 20% moisture the result should give the same burn time. What the question should have been was if you measure the moisture content on the outside of the log and compare an even moisture content throughout the log of 20% for a natural dried log with a kiln flash dried log with 20% on the surface and 30% in the centre then the flash dried log will last longer as its wetter. Thats why its so important to get your customers educated into splitting the logs and testing on the inner surface. Plenty of Kiln dried cowboys about.
  2. Can see them being banned when the new regs come in. Already sorting out my advertising to put the emphasis on the fact that my kiln dried logs are produced without any PM 2.5 emissions. Will probably work quite well as people are already complaining about the smoke from a local biomass kiln.
  3. You can get systems that work above the stove.
  4. Last time I looked about 1200 pounds but they may have gone down since I last looked as they have now been on the market quite a while.
  5. I got it wrong 95% not 96%. that will teach me not to quote from memory. Commercial units have had similar filters for decades.
  6. Well if you start talking PM 2.5 a simple electrostatic filter on the chimney reduces PM 2.5 by 96% according to the manufacturers so if they really wanted to reduce PM 2.5 that would be the simple solution. Think its the Swiss who already have the filters in as part of the chimney approval.
  7. Do you still have some Holder tractor parts. I am trying to find a gearbox for a Holder A50/A60 well actually its a C500 but I have been told they use the same gearbox.

  8. Think you need to look at the by-products on torrefication of wood then you will find a suitable fuel to run a gas engine.
  9. No different to the system outlined on here back in 2013. Still waiting for HMRC approval for the fuel made from the torrefied wood.
  10. Thermal oil at 230C and yes gas is given off during the drying process.
  11. Simple gravity fed hopper into thermal plate dryer (gas given off as part of drying process no gasifier) with ordinary gas fired engine driving generator. No drying floor thats what the thermal oil plate dryer does.
  12. Feed in woodchip then the gas given off used for the CHP plant and the by-product is torrified wood (charcoal). Thermal oil heated from the waste heat of the CHP plant.
  13. Simple thermal oil plate dryer making torrified wood.
  14. Actually takes about 30 seconds from woodchip to charcoal with moisture content of approx 3%. Far better than waiting for wood to dry.
  15. Just do a search on here probably around 2010 for the original solar kilns then thermal solar around 2015. Nothing really to see but a polytunnel with sloping roof and a concrete floor to allow a fork lift to move the IBC containers in and out of the polytunnels.
  16. I do have some billets but only from timber that will not fit through the processor. Stored in solar kiln in IBC containers. When processed IBC container is rotated on pallet forks and used as log deck. I try to minimise as its double handling and I normally only like to touch the timber once through the processor.
  17. Are the government really making decisions on a sample size of only 1000 with only 240 from country areas. Really is a case of garbage in garbage out.
  18. No secrets on the solar kiln described on here over a decade ago using a polytunnel the key element being the ridge not being horizontal.
  19. Simple just use a solar kiln. Have been doing this for over a decade now.
  20. Got conned by the forestry commission and there woodland grant scheme which they have not paid out since 2015. Thankfully not a large amount of money but I certainly would not trust any government scheme.
  21. Makes you laugh with a limit of 2m3 do we assume thats 2 builders bags as they always sell them as a m3.
  22. If it stops these idiots with kilns drying wood with wet wood I am all for it. Looks like my solar kiln will be getting a bit more work. As for a moisture content of 20% thats been my guarantee for over a decade.
