  1. Can deliver 32 IBC containers at a time but would need a fork truck to unload. All split logs guaranteed less than 20 percent MC but unfortunately reflected in the price. Would not recommend glasshouse as glass has tendency to break and is impossible to get out of log pile once contaminated.Stick with poly tunnels.

  3. Bit disappointed. Preferred 2010 but might just be the big toys having an active demonstration area. Also missed the variety of associated biomass stalls I presume cost is the big issue. Even so managed to sort out my shopping list pity I don't have the 20k available to buy it. Even managed to say no to Jonsie for a pair of Meindles for £139.

  5. Dont be a skinflint there are plenty of old brown sliding top pto sawbenches about with a fully covered blade and log holder. There so safe even your granny could use them without chopping off fingers. Only time they become dangerous is if you take short cuts and decide not to use the log holder. Just remember to put on a slight uphill gradient then the log table automatically slides back and covers the blade due to gravity.
  6. Have you thought of using recycled bags. I do various sizes starting at £2 a bag plus postage. Biggest problem is cost of postage going up.
  7. My Kesla is the best of both worlds. I use it on a daily basis attached to my forwarding trailer but if access is tight I can attach to the 3 point link by undoing just 6 bolts. Also comes in handy when towing the road trailer as it does not restrict the towing hitch.
  8. I used to come out with a rash when handling christmas trees.
  9. I didn't know Burnley had a team of tree specialists. As far as I was aware they have a one man band of a woodland officer who hires in the private sector when needed but also has a band of voluntary workers.
  10. Its been a hard choice but they went to a "reputable" dealer this afternoon for peanuts. I am very annoyed with my daughter as one of the horses was her horse and as a newly qualified vet she did not think it was fair on me to look after her horse while she was working abroad being a vet. So what about the six years I looked after the horse while she was off training to be a vet. Talk about being ungrateful. I had to put the mother down of the mare which went today and that was bad enough even though the horse was ill so putting to perfectly good horses down would be out of the question.
  11. Shows how much I know of horses its not section 2 its a Section D Welsh Cob and a 14 hand welsh cross arab. If it was upto me they could carry on grazing the fields the same as they have done for the last 5 years.
  12. Thanks born2trot. Not thought of carriage driving but that does sound expensive. Horses are a section 2 welsh cob and a stocky arab cross both with very quiet temperaments. We have tried finding a trust worthy rider but the market at the moment is very depressed to such an extent that riders are demanding not only the horse but a contribution to its upkeep. I dont really want to sell to a dealer as you hear of some really cruel cases and the alternative glue factory is a poor end for such nice horses.
  13. Can any horse loggers advise. Do logging horses have to be heavy shires or can other horses do a similar job. Reason for asking is I have two horses which need exercise but I cannot ride and my daughter who used to ride them is going to Mauritius to live. I could sell to a dealer but they have become part of the family and I would rather loan them but dont want the risk of injury if the horse throws them off. Just thought loaning to a horse logger might be a viable alternative but then I dont know much about horses.
  14. I always store my woodchip dry normally to G30 W20 spec for which I get a premium price.
  15. Just an update. Found an engine on the bay which used to run a compressor with only 350 hours on the clock. Stripped it all down and used the crank and pistons in my original block. Put it all back together and it runs really well. Does anybody want a Perkins 3 cyl block that has only done 350 hours it seems to good just to weigh it in for scrap.
  16. My Kesla has a 5mtr reach but I normally use it attached to the forwarding trailer. If forest access is restricted then I use the 3 point option but with stabilizers attached and the draft control locked.
  17. Only took my MF550 on the road once with the timber trailer and it scared me so now stick with the MB Trac in 4WD and its far safer. Still restricted to 20mph but any faster around here and your bound to be pulled.
  18. Either compost, polytunnel heating, power generation and soon running my log processing tractor on woodchip. If anyone wants a tip site just outside Bolton were always open for a free tip and a brew.
  19. Have experimented with both mixing in woodchip in deep beds and using woodchip as a deep bed base. Generally results were not good for the mixing woodchip but woodchip as a base produced good results especially in times of drought. Would certainly recommend the technique for arid climates. Wish somebody would pay me for Permies courses I normally end up giving it as free advice.
  20. Had our inspection earlier this year. Fortunately only lasted half a day but I did spend the time with the inspector rather then let him wander around. Half a day for me wasted but I had heard of others taking three days if left to there own devices. Nothing to worry about if all in order. We had already carried out some replanting which could clearly be seen as growing away strongly so we ticked the right boxes. Your fortunate to be told of the inspection ours was unannounced.
  21. Forgot to mention look up hugelkultur on the Permies site and it will explain. In simple terms its a deep bed method using wood or wood chip as the base.
  22. Whats with all the cloak and dagger details. Just go to the Permies site and have a look at the results being obtained for wood based growing systems. Great if you can get wood chips for free thats why we have a free tip site but with the upsurge in biomass I think the days of free wood chip have ended.
  23. Thats the problem of using a cost plus basis of pricing rather than thinking logically and working backwards starting at selling price then giving an acceptable margin to the estate and your left with a profitable business.
