  1. Fitted a tow bar and registered at local VOSA test station (Chadderton) as dual purpose vehicle when MOT was undertaken. Does help having horsebox, plant trailer, and flat trailer. Original purpose of dual purpose was to allow a horse box to be pulled by a land rover with two horses. Now with the trailer weight rules you need a bigger vehicle to tow the horsebox or only transport one horse at a time.
  2. Heres the dual purpose exemption and the Part 2 rules for farming and forestry which might be useful for some people http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/Vehicles%20Exempt%20From%20Operator%20Licensing%20Requirements.pdf
  3. Not quite true as I operate my 7.5 tonne curtain side truck under the dual purpose rules carrying my own goods.
  4. Getting back to the original question the answer is still the same. Double the rate per m3 to get to a rate per tonne just remember that the rate quoted may already include an allowance of 50% for air in which case you will not need to make the adjustment. Case of buyer beware as it can be a costly mistake.
  5. There was one at the APF last time between the A C Price stand and Atkinson Vos. I cant remember the guys name but I am sure he was part of the Atkinson Vos demo maybe logbaron could advise. My forward control MB has hazohack chipper on the back with 3 m3 fork lift tipping chip bin on rear platform and log deck on front platform over the engine. All I need now is tow hitch on the chipper so I can drag the forwarding trailer behind and use the crane for chipper feed
  6. They do at the 250kw level and above producing a nice pension pot of 100k per year once the finance has been repaid.
  7. I had a utility company tried to con me with that one agreeing a rate per m3 of actual timber assumed 50% air then when they came to invoice actual dimension of stack was used without any air adjustment. I will stick with actual stack dimensions and then divide by 2 to arrive at tonnes.
  8. Thanks for the overwhelming response I will get back to everyone in due course. Job is initially a one off but we are trying to convince the turbine manufacturer that planning permission is easier to obtain for higher heights using there standard pylon rather than a pole and then if successful to offer a nationwide erection service.
  9. nick How are you calculating the 27m3 as it seems very low. On my drawbar trailer (ex skeleton container trailer) I get 3 stacks 3 mtr long and at 2.5mtr x 2 mtr that gives 45m3 even at a more normal 2 mtr wide it still gives 36 m3
  10. Any climbers on the Lancs/Yorkshire border interested in erecting a 36 metre wind turbine tower. Big meccano set really but the rope rigging I presume will be very similar to tree climbing with pulley lifting instead of pulley dropping.
  11. I have a trailed russel forage harvester. Ancient but strong and can trail a forage trailer as standard or modify to use IBC containers if you dont want to drag a trailer. Ours cost £150 but you will be had pressed to find one now as cheap as there now collectors items. We use for sedge chopping on bog land to reduce peat bog fires on heather and sedge moors.
  12. Normally double the price to get a price per tonne. ie 35m3 equates to 70 per tonne. Assuming fresh cut wet timber.
  13. Thanks niftysteve I have been raiding the Atkinson Voss MB for parts but the throttle linkage normally gets sold with the cab so I dont think it is there but waiting for them to confirm. Thanks ntbrenna for the heads up on the german ebay site. I wish I knew of it earlier as I was looking for a complete 3 point link hydraulics for my forward control and they have one for sale. I ended up using my front link off my other MB.
  14. Anybody out there with an accelerator pedal and linkages for a MB Trac 1000. Been to my local Merc dealer and only two of the four items are in stock with the other two items now being on the non stock list. Part numbers I am after are 441 300 0004 (177) and 441 300 0102 (225).
  15. I hire my Heizohack out but only with operator. Set up to produce G30 chip but also have a G50 screen but never use it. Whats maximum tree diameter. Is it woodland chip into skip bin or extract and chip. Can do both but woodland chip would need my Forward control MB Trac.
  16. Nearer the show it might be worth knowing who's going on what dates so that lifts can be arranged. I intend to go but its far better having a car full with the price of petrol these days.
  17. A lot more tenders coming out for schools, supermarkets etc. Prices are still very low but I am sure will get better as demand increases.
  18. Standard £50 per tonne delivered around us for hardwood.
  19. I can match that price if you twist my arm.
  20. What is there budget??? If the pallets are not Virgin timber then it will need to be a WID compliant plant which doubles the price straight away. PM me if you have any queries.
  21. Why not keep it live with a couple of willow trunks sawn off to make a couple of pollards.
  22. Makes very good dry woodchip for biomass. Need to ring bark before sap rises and will be ready to harvest with whole tree chipper within 6 months. Care needed when the tree becomes tinder dry as a fire hazard.
  23. Not sure on the comment re waste transfer station due to the environment agency keep changing the rules. Biggest problem with woodchip which people forget and get fined for is the liquid run off. We have to use IBC containers to comply but that does allow us to process upto 75,000 tonnes per year.
  24. Spoke to the professionals who also think it needs a new clutch (complete unit) although they have suggested it might be a bent fork which they have seen before on a MB Trac.
