  1. I would suggest trying to nip it in the bud straight away. ie tv camera to catch who ever it is. I have a running battle with the locals but being on a farm it is difficult to catch them in the act. Second nature now dipping fuel tanks and dip sticks for addition of water. Electric fencers disconnected. Field gates left open and animals let out. (all gates now padlocked) Another farmer I know gave up after years of the locals so called pranks but its no fun having to put a battery on equipment every time you need to use it as the locals hot wire for a joy ride.
  2. Go on the National Debtline website. Great for free expert advice and you may be eligible for the new Debt Relief Order. If you can prove your bank has overcharged interest or put through illegal bank charges which then made you overdrawn and incur more bank charges you may have a case with the banking ombudsman. Again National Debtline has standard letters for tackling creditors.
  3. I have a brand new one ready to go on my 3 tonne excavator just need the rotator and pipework. Originally bought with a view to using the excavator in the woods but since I bought the forwarder the grab is now redundant.
  4. Lets just explode a few myths. Basically the design looks like a rocket stove. I will be building one shortly in my growing polytunnel. The most significant cost is the 45 gallon steel drum £10 12ft length of 6 inch chimney pipe £40 and 20ft of 4 inch stove pipe £50. In addition I have been keeping the ashes out my wood burning stove to use as insulation FOC. The stove will take less than a day to build so anything over £300 is a rip off. Claims on efficiency I would not dispute as it is one of the reasons why I am building the stove. As for fuel, rocket stoves are normally shown using standard kindling sticks not some rip off charcoal product although another design of a rocket stove does produce a product called biochar which is supposed to be good for the garden but I have not tried it yet. Plenty of sites on the internet to look at if you google "rocket stoves for heating" if you just google rocket stoves you end up with the little cookers. You will all need to be aware of this type of stove as the amount of wood used is typically 5 times less than a normal stove due to the heat retained in the building mass similar to a masonry stove.
  5. Anybody know of a manufacturer of this type of stump blade. Looking for one to fit on a hitachi ex30 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxEZkSBj-o4&feature=related]Wurzelstock mit Rodemesser am Minibagger abschälen - YouTube[/ame]
  6. Rob I could do it if you think it would go on my 7.5 tonne truck with tail lift but I thought it was in bigger pieces needing my MB Trac and forwarder. PM me if I can be any help
  7. If you were nearer Rob I would have it but Birkenhead is just a bit to far away
  8. I use the half m3 size 0.8x0.8x0.8 as I am getting old and cannot throw the bigger bags around plus the fact I try and sell IBC cages (1 m3) full of logs rather than bags and let the tractor do the hard work.
  9. Best year to date due to a local who set up selling cheap wet larch. Customers cannot burn it so coming to me for guaranteed less than 20% MC timber for which I am charging more than double the wet larch price. All word of mouth I dare not advertise as I will be running out very shortly with my next batch not ready until the end of March.
  10. Marko suggested a while back the use of a Danish trolley which we now use on our curtainside truck. Makes emptying with the tail lift very easy as well. We lift the bag onto the danish trolley with the forklift.
  11. Its very serious. America is trying to take back control of the internet and regulate it for its own ends. Just google "who controls the internet " and you will get the background story.
  12. Always welcome here you might even get a brew.
  13. Not a fan of letting stuff rot on the forest floor. Much rather have dead branches on a tree but then health and safety will be after you if it drops on somebody head.
  14. Have removed all barbed wire from the fences which I own and replaced with strand wire but still not been able to convince my neighbor on a joint fence so have resorted to an electric wire on hangers 1 foot in from the barbed wire.
  15. Windfall I did look into trucking timber to you as I am not that far away from either Heysham or Liverpool but was shocked at the ferry price of £650 plus vat for my little 7.5 tonne Merc. Whats the score with woodland on the island as for tax purposes I found an estate with 50 acres of woodland that I thought was ideal for my purpose but now having second thoughts.
  16. Where abouts is the doorstep. I am sure given the number of people on Arbtalk the chances of being further than 10 mile away from a source of good quality logs is very remote.
  17. Whatever you do dont wait until you are in a forced sale situation. I have done quite a few administrations and the reality has been 10% of asset value and nothing for the order book or customers. Slightly different if you have a unique product unfortunately log sales every man and his dog is jumping on the bandwagon.
  18. I would boycott any attempt to sell African desert firewood in the UK. It is wrong in so many ways. The main cooking fuel in the area is wood which is in serious decline causing even greater desertification. Land containing the trees has often been acquired by corrupt governments displacing the indigenous population. Just google and you will find loads on how dependent the locals are on firewood for there cooking fuel and what lengths they have to go to to get sufficient to cook there daily meal. http://www.worldbank.org/afr/wps/wp35.pdf
  19. Not all customers are satisfied. Due to the forum rules negatives are not allowed but anybody interested can come and inspect the abortion made of my MB Trac.
  20. If you have 4 wheel steer cannot you convert to crab steer so that each wheel has its own fresh ground for traction. My forward control MB Trac has the facility and the grip is far better you just have to remember to turn it off for narrow gateways or narrow bridges.
  21. Only talking from experience wanting to finance a 250kW wind turbine even with guaranteed Fits income most banks refused point blank and the only bank who offered finance wanted asset cover of twice the value of the asset. You have done very well to get any finance and your the first farmer I have heard actually get an increase in overdraft many farmers around me are in dire straights because overdrafts have been reduced. Fortunately I dont have an overdraft so can hopefully ride out any recession.
  22. Grants are out there at the moment unfortunately only to a maximum of 40% which still means 60% to find from your own savings as despite assurances from banks that there lending to small business in reality there not.
  23. I now dont bother with land which has an uplift. Why should you go through all the aggravation of securing planning permission and then have to give money back. Some of these uplift clauses are very vague. I nearly got caught out with some land which I was going to purchase to plant woodland on. The planting of woodland would have triggered the uplift clause and I would have been stung for another 300k.
  24. Would not be concerned about a bagging off chute so long as the bench was high enough to fit an IBC container under each side and the table long enough on each side to fill the centre of the IBC.
  25. Looks very good. Fancy making another one and if so how much would it cost.
