  1. That would be much appreciated
  2. Now that's not a stupid idea.
  3. Yale arrow frog (11.7mm) Ewan. My 2ic has had more use of it than me and reckons its pretty difficult, nigh on impossible to do. Even so, surely there must be some way of having some kind of measure to prevent the pin dropping out completely. I figure if you could adapt the old push button release with a free rolling sleeve around it that a small grade cable or fishing line or something could be attached to and a small eye soldered to the end of the pin that the other end of the line would attach too. Sounds simplistic I know but there has to be an answer other than being very very careful.
  4. I loved the Facebook update that just said; Oh oh Said it all really
  5. I have a mate working or contracting for Davey tree in Canada. Reckons that they were sending crew from 4000 miles away in advance of the storm. Same with Asplundh. I doubt there'd be a huge call for UK climbers though I believe there are already a heap of jobs being advertised over there anyway. I also believe Davey tree is actively looking for international climbers but I could be wrong. A quick Google search brings up heaps of jobs right across the country at all sorts of levels. I was keen myslef but the mortgage kinda puts the dampners on it.
  6. The pantin works better over the spikes if your straps are long enough. I've been having a play with the ZK2 recently and both myself and my 2IC have noticed a problem. Not sure if this has already been raised before so apologies if it has. On the ZK1 you could slide the rope into the wrench without fully removing the pin. On the new version we've found that we've had to remove the pin completely. Already one has been dropped 15m out of a tree (and fortunately found) but is there no way of having some way of connecting the pin to the body just in case of a bad case of clod handidness? The quick release pin on the ZK1 was good; easier to get your hands around but they don't fit the ZK2. Is it just us that have this problem?
  7. Has a pair of aqua fell experts. Crap boots. First pair split near the laces. Second pair were comfy but lost all support around the ankle. They became really floppy and ended up as walking boots. I'll stick with the air streams until I read a full review on the zermatts.
  8. I love that man of the street photo silky. Just something about it.
  9. Should have find my iPhone on it then you can track it.
  10. Nice.
  11. I'm on my second pair of airstreams but keen to hear how the Zermatts go long term. Fancy doing a proper review on them after a couple of months hard yakka Rob?
  12. Before I went self employed I often bitched and moaned that I was worth more. The company I worked for did extract the michael somewhat by putting me on a base salary but had me on 24/7 call out for no extra. This included holidays. I was finally made redundant and had little option but to go self employed. That was a massive learning curve. It's not until you actually run a business you realise just how difficult it is and how much time, money and effort it takes. You don't take in to consideration how much extra needs to be earnt in order to pay for holidays (if you're really lucky), breakdowns etc. Neither do you allow for how difficult it is to get the work in the first place in a cut throat market. Eventually I couldn't cut it against the big boys who were having their own price war and took a job with local council. I still keep my private business running and that now provides a little extra for me to do the things I want to do but it does entail working saturdays, half sundays and all public holidays. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Just because you're good doesn't mean to say you're going to get great money unfortunately. There's always someone willing to undercut you for a half ass job and just because you own the business doesn't mean you're bringing in good coin. Some have to sacrifice the holidays and even a regular wage for a long period just to get the business etablished and then staying in business and being able to continually compete with the multitude of new outfits, one man bands, lawn mowing companies that can "trim your tree Mrs" and various others? well that's a whole other ball game.
  13. Hey silky, how about you rub my nose in it having me watch you drink that good stuff while I'm suckin on the fizzy excuse we get here :biggrin:not due back in the uk for another couple years but if you fellas make this a regular thing I'm in
  14. If you pay the airfare I'm there. Haven't had a decent scrumpy in over 15 years
  15. Who do you know from Asplundh? Probably only a couple left from when I started back in 98 but there was Wytch, Greg Edwards and I worked for a while with Rick Mexted at Treescape.
  16. I hear the RW has been banned at the orange brigade too. Some awesome guys there though. Not many left from when I was there but still a couple I think.
  17. I know that the larger outfits run regular safety days which include aerial rescue from both rope and bucket but an 18m footlock sounds a little excessive to me. I don't know of anyone else who does this and it sounds more like someone power tripping but that's only my opinion.
  18. Sit on it or leave small pegs to stand on if possible next time, and I mean small.
  19. Yet ( and yes, I know it's legal) we still glorify drinking to excess. Just because it is legal doesn't make it any better than some drug use. A recent report from some scientific outfit or other stated that if drugs were re categorised to include tobacco and alcohol with 1 being the most dangerous, they would be rated and number 1 and 3 respectively. I suppose the argument is null and void while they are still legal.
  20. They just stuck some doozies in on an upgrade on one of our town centre streets. Needed a 4wd to get over them 4 of them put in. A day after the grand reopening of the street one of the four has already been levelled. Apparently a normal family saloon bellied out on it.
  21. Is the course being done at Riseholme? Surely they should have a bit of kit you can try on, try a few harnesses and give you some pointers on what basic kit you need. If not, most of the suppliers on AT should be able to get you set with the basics without selling you stuff you don't need.
  22. I've worked with a few like that. Swore blind they worked faster and harder. All I ever wanted to do was eat never ending tubes of Pringles and choccy biccies and veg in front if the tv watching something that didn't involve remembering the plot.
  23. I wouldn't bother with the saw and basic kit like spikes if you're only coming for a short period. Awful lot of kit to lug around. I'd bring your harness if you're not keen on climbing on a bog standard, and any flash gear u climb on such as a SJ as these don't tend to get dished out too regularly for short term employees. Most companies will provide the basics anyway for a new climber, including PPE. It might not be top of the line stuff but it'll do what's required. And you definitely shouldn't be providing your own saws as this is pushing towards contracting.
  24. Why do you want to ship your kit out? Are you intending to contract climb?
  25. I tried it with the RW but it felt decidedly odd and twisted so I keep the pair separate.
