  1. The scape have two of em, the other mounted on the front of a digger. I'm not going to mention the size of the holes that the trees went in to though. Oh, wait, I just did.
  2. Thanks to Doyle and Mark from Village of the damned, otherwise known as Treescape, the two fellas from Natural Habitats Landscapes and Masonw for hauling arse and getting it all done at the last minute with absolutely no warning or planning.
  3. Few pictures from a transplanting job we've been involved with for the last couple of days. Trees were donated, spade wasn't.
  4. Okidoki, seeing as I didn't make it to the Redwoods this year I'm heading back early summer next year. This time I've got at least a week to play with and am considering driving from Seattle to San Francisco and taking in the avenue of giants on the way. Ditched the idea of Yosemite due to crowds and costs. Anyone done this road trip, either way, and can give me a heads up on stuff to expect? Cheers to Mario for the advice thus far too.
  5. I hit the sack about 9.30 and get up just before 6 but I very rarely sleep right through. I wake up several times a night. Sinus issues mean a can only sleep on one side. I also had a head injury when I was young which has short circuited something in my head. Small consant noises now wake me up and get in my head until that's all i can hear. Dripping taps, stereo bass, ticking clocks even the very faint whirring of an electrical timer on the bedroom heater. Drives me insane and leaves me exhausted some days.
  6. No idea what they are like Drew but I saw pair of arborist's boots at the Field Days by Andrew Boot. Looked like Meindles but about $200 cheaper. Can't find them on any of their websites though. Nice looking boot and by the looks of the website I'd say they'd be quality.
  7. Croatia for me but then I don't sign up to all that BMI rubbish anyway. It doesn't allow for muscle mass etc. so gives a false indication. I know full well I'm not obese and certainly not fatter than 75% of my country's population. utter gonads.
  8. I think now would be a good time to lift the ban on swearing on the forum, only for this thread, just so we can say exactly what we think of the these lowlife scum. Makes my blood boil, especially when you're helpless to do anything.
  9. Walking some of those streets was scary enough but to see him hit them at the speeds he was.............
  10. A month is nowhere near enough to do what you want. I'd spend most of the time in the South Island as you'll cover most basis there. West Coast of the SI is pretty rugged. Southern Alps have to be done as does Milford. I'd just follow your nose and stop where you feel like but definately give yourself plenty of time to get around the south.
  11. Cheers for those Drew. Liking number 5 and the ability to switch from one system to another.
  12. Old mill, what's the hitch hiker? Care to expand a little.
  13. I thought you were being sarcastic when you said it first time around. Apologies bro
  14. There you go, that's what I was trying to ask in the first place but got all muddled with the iphone auto correct thingy which made it look like I wanted to use a wrench out of my toolbox as the tether. I saw the metal tether in Kev's article. I just wondered if that could be fitted directly to the zk-1 or if that attachment meant alterations to the wrench itself meaning that you had to buy the zk-2. Interested to see how it well it works.
  15. Sorry Drew didnt mean to confuse. Maybe I've got my wires crossed. I was talking about the tether that connects between the wrench and the pulley. Rather than this being cord is this a metal part on the new version? Hopefully I explained myself this time unless I'm off on my own tangent somewhere
  16. If we continue to allow iPhone auto correct to dictate this thread we're going to be in all sorts of trouble. I'll try and put the question correctly and it's nothing to do with my spanner set. Is the new stiff tether interchangeable with a normal tether on the current RW or is it a whole new RW specifically made with a stiff tether. Yeesh, didn't think that would be so hard
  17. Shoulda said can it be fitted to the current RW or do you have to buy a whole new mark 2 or whatever it is?
  18. So this can basically be fixed to the current RW without having to but a whole new tool?
  19. I've worn mine for pretty much everything. Climbing, dragging, hedges, walking the dogs. I'd even considered using them for the Tongariro crossing as they offer better support tham my walking boots. You're right though; tree climbing slippers. Talked a mate into buying a pair. He said he was happy with el cheapos but I told him council was paying so he could have some decent gear. I reckon he wears them to bed personally.
  20. Running a 50m, 38m and a 20m and looking at just getting a 12m for the really small stuff but then the council is paying
  21. Four years + old and just the first signs of a slight leak if I stand in water too long but it's only a drop not a gush.
  22. We were discussing this just the other day. There seems to be so many new and varied ideas of anchoring etc with the wrench and srt. We see heaps on blogs, facebook and various other places. We decided to pick possibly two and stick with them rather than trying to learn all of them. For a newbie to srt like me it was all starting to get a bit discombobulating. Personally I prefer the cambium saver lock off. Retrievable from the floor as long as you set it right and seems to work hunkydory. Never been keen on that base anchor thing. Once you see a couple of big limbs landing real close or a groundy getting a bit happy with a chainsaw in the vicinity it gets the old sphincter twitching a bit. Still having issues with ascending to the first bracnh I have to say and I still use the SJ for smaller trees. Happy that I have both options in my bag.
  23. One side possibly could have been felled but it always leaves such a dirty great mess. Branches stuck in the ground, soil all over where you need to cut and heavy wood on top of stuff you need to drag. Decided it was easier and more efficient to dismantle and keep everything in a tight area making clean up easier. My groundy (Masonw) had it all chipped and raked by the time I got down so all we had to do was fell the stems and ring up Started to persist about an hour from finishing but couldn't take away from the satisfied feeling at the end of the job.
  24. Couple more. Back tomorrow for the final clean up hopefully after joe public has removed all the firewood for us.
