  1. I was blown away by that video. What a cool place for a walk.

Sorry it is not a fracture cut but this bough fell 2 years ago on a veteran turkey oak i cut it back only to this point as the pipistrelle bats like small cracks like this but look at the new growth. This must be a good way, good for habitat and good for the tree? But as Dr lonsdale said it is better to take these large boughs back slowly.
  4. Could be a privet hawk moth or an elephant hawk moth.

  6. Picture 1 is an ash graft. Pictures 2and3 is a wild service tree about 250 years old but sadly got honey fungus and a bad wound on the trunk. Picture 4 is a zelkova with dutch elm disease maybe the first in britain?
  7. A few pics from today with the AA and RFS tour of the Arboretum in the morning and talking about the death of oaks in the afternoon with a tour of veteran oaks to finish the day.
  8. Wrong Agrilus steve. Agrilus pannonicus they enter the bark tunnel around the trunk which takes two years then exit by then they have cut off the supply moving in the cambian and kills the tree. Then enters the oak pinhole borer through the exit holes of the Agrilus beetle.

  11. Hi dan hope your eye soon gets better. Last year about this time of year i was pruning a medlar tree and a twig poked me in the eye and one year on it still hurts and by mid day it goes blood shot.

  13. Thats bad news a bit close. I had the police here chatting about crimes in the area. A fortnight ago thieves stole the church gates in the village scum.

  15. Well said cleanhands. My dad died at 47 and i am 47 in june this to be honest is getting me down i keep thinking this is coming to me. But by being on the estate i do try to keep stress free.

  23. This willow as you can see fell over i guess it wa cut off and a branch grew up to form a new tree. Wher the gap is at the butt you can crawl in and an adult can lay down to have a sleep so you will know where to find me:001_smile:
