  1. Yes just been doing a bit of research online, does look nasty!
  2. Anybody come across this tree? we had one blow across a minor road, local farmer cleared the ends over the road and ended up in hospital with burns. we've got to clear the rest! thinking of minimal cuts wearing spray suit, loading on trailer and burning in open field, even the smoke is toxic! resin turns black, tree looks similar to ailanthus, walnut.
  3. just sold mine. 560hrs. 2005 machine. 10k no other machine would hold its value like that. paint work was not great but no worse than any of the other machines imo
  4. Thanks for the reply spud. I got a gasket set for the 230 and replaced them all. thinking that might solve the problem. I haven't tried screwing the L screw right in yet. I don't have any pressure testing equipment, stupidly thought it was going to be an easy fix! Sounds like a new carb then? especially as I've never heard of a 'welch plug'?!
  5. cleaned carb and filter in carb replaced seals in carb new spark plug new air filter new inlet manifold new impulse line new fuel line and filter still cuts out with breather pipe removed Saw starts, revs up a bit then revs drop and stalls. Im about ready to throw it in the bin!
  6. 12t grain trailer size. All logged up ready to split, so 12 to 18'' majority is too big and gnarly for processor. We can load.
  7. south west tele handlers, Alan in exeter or paul helps avant loaders in glastonbury. Mine as i said was on special offer, they try to get rid of last years models before the new year comes in. I should probably check that price though, probably closer to 15k but it was also back in 2013 i bought mine and it was a 2012 machine. Just glancing at the a62 its got a cab and lights, thats probably an extra £800 on the avant. boom leveling, limited slip diff, controls on joy stick, cab heater, heated seat, rear hydraulics etc etc etc all extra!
  8. Yep that norcar looks lovely. I would love a go! but as I suggested in an earlier post it is twice the price of my avant 420 (14ish k inc VAT with bucket, pallet forks and muck grab, special offer) But to be fair i think that model is a bit bigger than my 420 but not as big as the avant 500 series?
  9. got lots of hardwood all logged up, what sort of money would it be worth per ton? it would have to be loaded by hand or we have a loader that could load a tractor and grain trailer. probably about 10 grain trailer loads in dartmouth, devon
  10. I've got the avant 420 and i would certainly not be without it now. i doubt there is a lot between the avant and the multione. Worth looking at the Norcar make especially if you think the avant is expensive! (look on youtube) it is a much better machine but nearly twice the price! There is an attachment for just about everything now, just expensive, can be cheaper to buy some attachments through the likes of auger torque company or exac one. just ask for avant mounts to be used. there are masses of vids on youtube.
  11. it said in the instruction manual for the schliesing 200mx that the shear bar should be turned or replaced when the rounded bit was 2mm or more if i recall. i managed to reweld and grind back to a square edge reasonably successfully.
  12. I love a nice field maple hedge.
  13. How would an airbag respond to a bumper like that?? easier deployment?
  14. 88 with new 32'' sugi bar. Nice! We were going to mill up the chestnut but decided it was too dead and we needed to get the road clear.
  15. Had this call out to do today, bonfire on the hottest day of the year! No vehicle access, fairly busy beach in East Portlemouth, Devon. Just sheared off at the base thursday afternoon, no wind, narrowly missing a couple on the beach. Burnt some of the brash today, still thinking about how to get the rest on the ground safely?!
  16. I replaced the wire on my lewis winch with 6mm dyneema rope, which is much better in every way. BUT it did snap the main drum once, apparently it exerts more sideways forces onto the sides of the drum which force the sides apart and split the drum. Engineer told me to use a shorter length of dyneema than with the wire rope. Ive got mine on a 441 I have used it a few times with a tirfor, i use the tirfor attached high up as usual to get the tree moving then i take over with the lewis which is attached lower for speed.
  17. Thanks for the heads up, thats too close for comfort! Are you from Landmarc?
  18. Funny, my 550 2012 was the worst saw I've ever owned! Stihl 441 not as good as 440 Agree, anything 4 mix is terrible anything without carb adjustment is terrible. Thankfully managed to get a new 660 before they ran out! i will repair my old one.
  19. just finished getting her down today and she is a bit rotten in the middle so not much use for milling, but thanks anyway
  20. I was going to try cutting out the damaged bit of pipe and try to get a bit of fuel pipe to connect together? guessing its a whole new clutch though?
  21. Anybody want about 5/6t of western red, near widecombe on dartmoor. Access, not brilliant. truck and trailer ideal or tractor timber trailer on minor road and lift over hedge? needs shifting by early next week, most of it will be down by friday Sorry if I'm stepping on anybodies toes by doing a job on dartmoor, friend of a friend. not near my patch.
  22. Never seen this before. 440 stopped oiling, noticed oil behind clutch, took it off, noticed springy things on clutch had snapped off and cut through the metal pipe from the oil pump.
  23. Well my 2012 441 has been a pain in the rear. After 6months stalled mid cut and would not restart. returned to dealer, who returned it to stihl. New coil.(i think) Shortly after that it kept stalling mid cut. returned to dealer, who returned it to stihl. They said there was nothing wrong with it?! stihl said that a stihl bar and chain would improve performance? I was fuming! Returned again to dealer as the saw would stall every cut logging up 16'' stuff, they replaced the carb and coil and it was much better, no apology! Returned saw again a few months ago as it keeps cutting out every time you put the saw down. they charged me £80 and cleaned the carb. Saw returned again a month ago with the same problem, again, charged £80, cleaned the carb. The saw still stalls now most times I put it down! I bought 4 new bit of gear in 2012 all have been terrible! all from the same dealer. stihl 441 husky 550 stihl km100 stihl 201
