  1. Thanks for all the replies. I will be getting some decent oil today. 20l drum of oregon oil is nearly all gone and never had issues in any other saws or gear.
  2. yes i will get some tomorrow.
  3. Oh i hope so! and i hope the dealer thinks that also! Has anyone noticed any difference between brands of petrol?
  4. no sorry the 441 has not seized. I'm just worried that scoring might have happened. The 441 was running fine for at least 2 months till it just stalled mid cut. Had to have a new carb under warranty, since then just has not been running well, keeps stalling at idle, top end speed is not as high as it was. been back to dealer lots of times. just thinking this might be down to fuel also.
  5. Guess these new saws really do need to run on aspen! my year old 550 seized today, been back to dealer 5 times since new for poor running etc. plug was blackish. Back with the dealer again now! have to await the bad news. My new 441 has been back at least 4 times now also. Im worried i will have piston/pot damage to this saw also. All my other older gear seams to run fine on the same fuel (bp unleaded with oregon oil) never had a problem till now. Would you get anywhere complaining to bp about bad fuel? filled up with texaco supreme unleaded tonight.
  6. my 550 is a year old and has been back to the dealer 5 times! 2 upgrades new starter assembly choke lever not staying in choke position and the same choke lever problem again now. when running though shes lovely. i would like to try a 261 my 6month old 441 is catching up the 550 mind new carb then would idle now idles better but still not right and is now high speed is too low, so in again both saws in with dealer during this busy call out time grrrr good old trusty 240 and 440 back in action!
  7. i like the look of the flue cube. expensive but meant to be good.
  8. £100 for 1.2m3 £200 for 2.6m3
  9. yes you can convert the powerhead back to chain saw but you will need to purchase a few bits to do so. the husky head was the better power unit to get when i got mine. better torque low down or something like that. comes with a modded exhaust for more power, very loud! teeth blunt very easily, when blunt it is painfully slow. only really useful if you can't get a bigger machine in or a small stump or a half rotten stump or you have quoted really high and got the job. check out vids online. loads on there website. in particular look at them using it as a brush cutter! totally useless!
  10. thanks for the replies guys. i will look in to both those when i get five mins
  11. Has anyone any experience with parabeam, alertpal, mobeye systems or similar. interested in receiving text message or phone call if system is alerted. my shed is in a remote field with no power so has to be solar or battery powered. i was thinking parabeam setup on the only field gate and a mobeye inside the shed. these systems have got a lot cheaper recently. Thanks for any advice
  12. got my first call at 7am and didnt get back till 7pm. dirty gert beech down in diptford, across minor road, just cleared the road, fortunately all the brash ended up in a field so that will be next weeks job. then off to dittisham near dartmouth, to an oak down across neighbours drive, so spent rest of the day there. two more calls to do tomorrow. stokenham and salcombe. south devon

    break in

Yep that is a crap day. Tomorrow can only be better! Just out of interest and to try to make their life a little harder, how did they mash the locks? What did they use to open the doors? Any way you could have made their entry harder within reason? Just trying to think of ways to protect my own stuff so hopefully they go and pick an easier target.
  14. there is a toro dingo on ebay at the moment
  15. try a goodwinch, they have a winch that fits on a tow ball, you just have to wire in a anderson plug to plug in in. fits on the ball in seconds. by passes the insurance problem. i have just bought one. everything you need is in the package.
  16. I raised the same weight issue with matt at redwood and he offered to make up a new machine by putting in a 3 cylinder engine (same as quad chip) this allowed him to shorten chassis and reduce weight. he was very keen to sell me a machine!
  17. So what are your issues with the quadtrak?
  18. have you tried one on demo yet? get it done! i did. (still havent bought one yet though!) i did try the forst also which was a better built machine for sure but better performance?? I'm not so sure. more weight to drag about blah blah blah
  19. Mine did the same thing, only i couldnt be bothered to contact riko i got my engineer to do it. wish i had though as they thought it was just the pipe that ruptured but it was in fact poor welding around the bottom of the ram, grind out and re weld job. cost a lot more than originally thought
  20. yep thats what I'm finding at the moment. Thanks for the replies guys
  21. Hi Guys upgrading to dyneema spiderjack. just wondering which biner works best for proper alinement of spiderjack. i use the dmm oval at the moment but have heard that it is not ideal as it forces a slight kink in rope and spiderjack alinement? thanks
  22. forget paid work! you will never forget that experience! i remember reading some fantastic articles in national geographic on tree canopy research.
  23. i used to have the bashlins now use geckos, they are lighter but i dont really think they are any more comfortable, the main difference i have found is that the spike is fixed a little higher so you dont have to worry so much when walking about on the floor.
  24. Thanks for the reply. guess i will have to spend a bit more money then!
