    New saw

the 441 is a great saw. Ive just got a new one to replace a tired 440. its easier to start and got a little bit more power. if you liked the 260 im sure you would be more than happy with a 261 although i havent tried one yet. i went with the 550 and i actually wish i stuck with stihl. its had to go back a couple of times, starting problems etc. i still find it erratic to start, some times starts first time some times sixth, i hate that especially when up a tree. The chain brake is also hard to engage/disengage imo. which somehow aggrevates my tennis elbow randomly. But i cant argue that the 550 is cracking when actually cutting wood, i just find stihl more refined and predictable. i think im just getting old!

  5. here are some pics redwood sent me of the new forst chipper
  6. im on my 4th l200. now got 09 plate with no probs at all. as for the turning circle it was best in class when i got mine, a quick look on net still better than nivara, dmax etc. 11.7m compared to 12.2m i think. (defender 17m!) but yes i would look seriously at dmax next time also no diff lock on dmax. But i hardly ever use it on my l200
  7. ive just bought the twin axle brian james tipper, tows like a dream. cant go wrong with alko running gear. The only drawback ive found is the tail board only pivots from the top so has to be removed to tip chip or wood, smashed a light the first time i tipped. brian james do not make light guards or so my dealer told me but they were less than useless. was thinkng of replacing lights with yhe much thinner led ones and then making up guards of some kind
  8. there was a maxilift hiab with donkey engine on ebay a couple of days ago pretty new
  9. i got gopart oil in 210l from chains direct online, actually i think it says 220l on the drum. ive got the drum on its side with a simple tap. i find it easier than 25l drums as i always run out at a bad time. i cant remember what i payed but it was the cheapest i found at the time. I think i posted at the time about the oil might be worth a search of old posts
  10. Here is my l200 tipper. this is the third l200 the tipper has been on. tipmaster did the initial conversion for me. its starting to get a bit tired now. could do with some serious tlc, but is a good ten years old. tips a ton easy any heavier and you can just give it a helping hand just to get it started. doors will fold down shut into a large lock up box or they will fold down flat against the side for easy side loading.
  11. yep I've got the same winch. only used it a couple of times. i don't find it easy to use this type of winch, hard to watch the winch, rope on capstan, and load all at the same time. knackered a rope on it. im sure you would get used to it though
  12. does anyone know if the airsteams work well with spikes? im looking for a new pair of boots. I've always been a haix pro wearer.
  13. there is a nice new shape nissan cabstar with chip box tipper on ebay for 10k at the moment, can't remember where it was but it looked very tidy and worth travelling for.
  14. stripped and cleaned out the innards but i cant get the thing to pump oil. called my local dealer they said you have to use motor oil in them when the pump wears a bit, they get loads of them in. its probably only 4 yrs old. any one else had issues?
  15. never seen this happen before. the threaded end of the crank sheared off my ms 200, left the clutch loose inside. next day, exhaust broke on another 200, and exhaust fell off another 200. are chain catchers made of cheese these days, i get through about 2 a week at the moment, im sure they used to last years not hours:thumbdown:
  16. i did have one on demo a while back and yes i was pleasantly surprised, i was only chipping lime and syc though so not the best test. the best bits i noticed was with the feed rollers the other way round it didnt snatch the lumps out of your hands and risk smacking your hand against the top of the hopper like mine does. i did spend a lot of time 'playing' with it, trying to work out whether to use turntable or to slew machine about on the tracks just to get it in to that perfect position.i loved the trailer to, the ability to use it as a conventional turntable road tow chipper was great. my only reservations are its longevity with some previous experience of greenmech. the price made me decide to stick with mine for a bit longer!
  17. just wondering if there are any problems with them yet now they have been out a while. I havent heard anything good or bad on arbtalk yet. is that good or bad?!
  18. the burst pipe was just the icing on the cake! i still prefer a cover, it takes less than a min to open hood to access internals and everything is protected from the elements and accidents etc
  19. i had 1 on demo a few years back. the rep said it would way out perform my 200mx. it was so slow at pulling stuff in, had to keep waiting to lob in the next bit. flippin loud as well. the rep said it was because the blades were blunt. A hydraulic hose blew in the end poring oil all over the road. i also just dont like the fact that nothing is covered up. It wasn't even close to out performing the 200mx i didn't buy one
  20. its a clerodendron. The dragon tree
  21. I think i paid about £8 for 500g but that was way more than i needed for this. All you do is chuck the granules in nearly boing water, it congeals together to form a soft mouldable plastic. As it cools it gets harder to work so just pop it back into hot water again for a bit and so on till you get what you want. There is a good video on youtube which is where i first saw it, loads of other uses. Try not to make phallic objects please!
  22. playing with this polymorph plastic and made some spike guards, easy peasy, fun and sooo much better than the rubbish bits of leather they give you. if you want some just look on ebay loads of it.
  23. i have had the old petzl ecrin rock, the newer meteor and now use the new stein. None fit me aswell as the good old groundie husky lid. I just cant get the ear defenders to seal properly so ears are ring at end of the day. I do blame it on wearing glasses but i cant see how they are different from the husky lid, i often wedge a woodchip between the helmet and defender which does help put a bit more pessure on them. The stein clear plastic visor lasts about 3 jobs more it unbearably scuffed, mine was just a little too close so scratched before i even put it on my head, it also does not pull down so well over glasses.
