  1. apologies if i'm reading it wrong but a cubic metre of pine is twice the weight of green beech?
  2. garages want to buy a net for a quid and sell for 5 quid.set your price and stick to it.sorry for the stick pun
  3. hi mate, had a look today, its a really old one i think, all in bits, engine looks like a diesel, its gotta be from the 60's or earlier.its got a black and white number plate 632 akx (i think) didnt see farmer but will tomorrow or tuesday, keep you informed, thanks, steve

  4. i'm east northants mate,kettering/corby area.i will enquire this afternoon for you and drop you a pm soon as i know more.you could find me an old rotten fourtrak pick up for a project and we could swap lol
  5. hi jay,i just took on another barn for log storage and theres one in the way! its very old (i know little else) and my farmer mate wants it moved by the owner, non runner, the engines beside it.i can enquire if you like,i want it gone too, where are you in the country? steve
  6. I do a bit for some farmers where they get a grant for "coppicing" the hedgerow.basically we cut down and burn 80% of it,leave anything that will potentially make a tree, then they plant the gaps with new quicks,i charge them a reasonable winter rate(can't retire on it)and take any wood for my log pile, its a good arrangement.to lay thick hedging properly i would guess you would need to charge about £200 a chain, thats enough to put most landowners off straight away
  7. I'm just about gonna get through the winter.been in the log game for 20 years so seen it up,seen it down so to speak.if its a tree surgery by-product and not your bread and butter then by all means have a quick killing, happy days,if its your winter living then you have to approach differently obviously.my logs are 65 quid a metre to regulars,75 quid to new customers, but i do look after my regulars first,if new customers come back next winter thats a bonus.i'm down to last 30 ton of dry hardwood but have a good stock of softwood/pop/willow for woodburners,in february people will take anything dry
  8. not really IME,cut it 4ft,split and stack it,dry by autumn, quicker than ash.leave it round and yeah it takes a long time

    Husky 372

I'm more of a stihl man but got done over by thieves last summer, cleaned me out,so took the best deal on replacement kit,one saw being a 372,local dealer did me one for 560inc vat with an 18" and 24" bar/chain,cheap as chips but did buy a 200t and a long reach stihl too and i suppose he was keen for the business.the 372 has been great apart from the usual husky trait of having to re-tighten bolts quite regularly, plenty of poke though,i'm more than happy with it
  10. they wont conduct through denim lol.being serious though mate if you have no spark and it stopped suddenly it sounds like ignition, probably about 40 quid, they sometimes make a popping noise when they go
  11. my mrs spent 37 hard earned squid on a nordman, its bent, not as bad as my little sis though, paid 75 for an upside down one from john lewis.......................one born every minute i hear you mutter
  12. remove it,put it back in the lead, hold it against the pot and pull starter. i like to put it between my buttocks, its champion!! joke
  13. sad news GTN,was he a young man?
  14. IMO: axe for green hardwoods and dry softwoods in billet lengths.maul for dry or knotty hardwoods or 3-4ft green, clean lengths to stack and season.if it won't go buy a McConnel sawbench and leave the axe in the van
  15. i think we're back to skyhucks original point about quotes and estimates here guys.a quote should be a nailed on maximum,an estimate can go either way, usually up in my experience
  16. why not consider a husky 372? been a stihl man 20 years, picked up a spanking 372 for 559 quid, took it up the yard today for some light logging to break it in and sure enough it rattled itself to bits(will they ever learn?) 460 hands down for me
  17. not surprised,3 weeks ago my pal had his chickens and house stolen, they loaded it onto his brian james trailer first though!!
  18. just been cleaned out by theives, paid £430 for a 12" but was in stock and came with an 18" 372xp at £559 and a hl95 long reach at £440.probably not the best prices ever but had plenty of stuff thrown in,all in stock and tomorrow i can work!!
  19. just a footnote guys and gals,if anyone has any surplus second hand saws/trimmers etc for sale i would be grateful if you could drop me a pm,thanks
  20. hi guys, not been on the site for a while as have moved house and not got the net yet.just thought i'd break the sad news of yet another victim of equipment theft.last friday night i lost my ifor TT105 tipper from off the back of my truck, along with 3 saws and a long reach hedge trimmer.the trailer is about 6 years old,has cage sides,3 newish tyres and one bald one(no spare).the saws were a 200t (2008 i think) 12",an ms361 (2007) 18" and a husky 353 15" (about 3/4 years old).the trimmer was a hl95 long reach (2008).i live in the east northants area about 6 miles from corby and kettering and am offering a substantial reward for recovery or information leading to recovery.i only have limited access to arbtalk currently but will be catching up with messages and the forum every day or so.thanks for reading my post and keep your eyes on your gear.many thanks, steve (the88man)
  21. stockers for PM,me for home secretary! i would change alot of the criteria, but i suppose crime would rise then?
  22. bending the thread i know but i have a 361 and find it a bit enigmatic.cuts well on a 16" bar, seems to cut even better on an 18",even put a 25" on it occasionally for sport and it copes with softwood.only thing i find is its a split second behind on pick-up when snedding, anyone else?!
  23. skyhuck (dave if i may!) i had 18 months out the game with pro-lapsed discs in my back, didnt keep up with my stamp (tax evader?) so they basically told me to take a hike,i struggled on trimming hedges day on,day off, finally paid good money for therapy (well spent) 3 years down the line i'm bloody playing sunday football again, never felt better.i hear if you tell them you're an alchoholic you get double money
  24. i'll read this thread from the start mr ed,only read last page so far, probably makes me a hypocrite because i employ (be careful) a bloke whose 3 months out of a hip replacement and for all i know probably still claiming
  25. stockers when you first joined the forum i thought you were a bit bolshy etc but the more i read from you the more i warm to you mate, and on this one your spot on.my mrs has MS,got more or less sacked because of it,works self employed now, claims not one penny from the system and put's alot of slacking arseholes to shame (IMO) stockers for PM
