  1. off on an 88man tangent but i used to know a timber haulier called mr onions(name plastered all over his lorry) i rang him one evening to arrange some timber collection "hello,is thst mr onions?" reply "its not onions, its oh-nyons"!!! i think he must have been watching keeping up appearances!!
  2. i knew really,just testing ya
  3. i'd pretty much echo josh and peters choices,i also have a 16" for my 361 but rarely use it now because then you may aswell pick up a 260,especially if you're getting old like me at the risk of bending the thread what difference is there in 7 and 8 pin sprockets? torque? top end?
  4. i buy AND sell a few on e-bay,i think you mostly get what you pay for.i always make my descriptions clear and honest, sadly some don't,if you have your eye on something but have doubts then e-mail the seller and ask as many questions as it takes, and always check their return/refund policy
  5. AEC matador anyone?!!
  6. about 10yrs ago i had a shed break and lost a stihl 036,claimed on house insurance with nationwide, put me straight in touch with "authorised dealer" who i dealt with anyway, asked for new saw and guy said "sure thats all you lost?"nudge, wink,"didn't lose a set of snap on spanners or a leaf blower then?" trying to bump up the claim i suppose.i was tempted but too honest and in hindsight should have reported them.soon after i tried to take out a policy with the NFU and the first question they asked was "any criminal record?" my reply was sadly "well yes, minor, years ago you understand!" held no water, wouldn't even quote!!
  7. does it affect anyone? think it saves me about a tenner on a new saw (if its passed on).the road haulage people on the radio tonight said it actually puts their bills up! i'm confused
  8. you don't need kevlar in the wellies, the wool on the ewe's legs will stop the saw ..........................................sorry!
  9. i've made a couple of contacts and bought a good saw courtesy of the forum, and have to say even at approaching 40 i learn something new on here almost every day
  10. my mrs and daughter been sitting on toilets with a bowl on their lap for 7 days now john, just when they start to feel better it seems to fight back, not nice and i suppose i'll be next
  11. pm sent,thanks
  12. thanks guys,i will look into your leads, cheers
  13. ditto,i think they're crap, especially on the smaller saws, and every different model they open at different angles, what's that about?! husky did it though years ago with the "spanner" fitment,my trouble was i was 1/2 mile down the wood and the "spanner" was in the van!! how's that new 346 jd? i can't find it on any sites or at my dealers, they still pushing old stock
  14. you could always put a 25" bar on a 361 (with flippy fuel caps),tune it,sharpen it and cut just about anything with it,keeping an 88 and a 353 as back up
  15. Anybody any idea where i can purchase a new circular saw blade for a McConnell pto sawbench? yes i know its old and most of you guys probably never heard of one but i swear by it,have two blades, one in use,one being set and sharpened, both getting old now and could do with a new one(or two).appreciate any leads, cheers, steve
  16. elten hydrofells in boggy winter woods for me.may sound daft but driving wears out good boots as quick as working in them,i usually drive to and from work in a 30 quid pair from brantano or the like.
  17. my sentiments exactly
  18. my 88 goes straight under my bed when the word is the gypo's are about,i joke not!
  19. i usually have a good stock in but am getting through it this year rapidly.by january i think its green ash for my open fire customers and lower grade seasoned stuff (poplar, softwood etc) for the woodburner customers,i think by then they will be lucky to get ANY wood,i won't put the price up though for my regulars, too honest i here you all say!!
  20. personally always been a stihl man myself.had quite a few 026's over the years, good all rounder as andy c says.i keep an open mind saying that though, bought a few huskies over the years(mainly cos the deal was good at the time) had a 254xp and a 262xp in the 90's,good when running but just not reliable enough for me when worked hard (the 262 lasted a couple of weeks if i remember, and i was not alone!) i've had two 353's now and they are much better IMO for reliability.a few months ago i purchased a new ms361 and its taken a while to get used to,most of the summer it stayed in the van behind the 026 in daily use,i found the switch awkward too,but now its autumn and i've started my annual coppicing it's come into its own on ash stools small and large,i run it generally on 16" but it will take bigger.i am looking to purchase a 460 probably warm handled, but will consider a husky again when i visit the dealer.as for the biggies i've an 88 thats now 5 yrs old and will probably last for 20 because its that well built IMO and has infrequent use.hope my opinions help, steve
  21. i thought it was hilarious mate.is that your lad? he were luck-eh.when i started with my old man he gimme a knackered old dolmar 119 with no chain brake and about as sharp as yer arse!!
