  1. been on and off with back trouble for years, lower discs and sciatica, seems ok for most of this year, touch wood.your hospital trip sounds a bit scary mate, proves we never know whats round the corner

  2. i wish they would pay for half the people on here to have spelling workouts lol
  3. don't really get the 575 personally,or rather don't really get the marketing of it.its been out a few years now alongside the 372 which is still on sale, good saw(says a stihl man)so why market it as a replacement but not have the confidence to replace it?!! maybe with my imminent order of an ms460 (with a warm handle) i'm biased?
  4. tongue in cheek david,semi-retired through illness not wealth

  5. i should go to specsavers,i thought they were norwich shirts
  6. "i have to say mr lofthouse, whoever sold you that tacho saw you coming old chap!"
  7. "oh whatto, impressive machine mr jones, would it be free delivery per chance?" "sorry old bean, afraid not,£8,10 shillings and a penny" guffaw, guffaw
  8. and me!
  9. "do you think its working mr sachs?" "i'd say so mr dolmar.....you've just sawn my f***ing foot off!!"
  10. never mind the firelighters, hide the wallpaper in case carol smilie's looking
  11. there is a market for everything garth! horses for courses and ice to the eskimos my friend.if your job was 10 miles from me i would offer to do that job on the cheap subsidised by wood (albeit slow drying) which i can sell 18 months later.its all about foresight,if you can afford to,stack it in a yard, mix it up with ash, hawthorn, beech etc and sell it at a premium,if you don't do logs then sell it on green by weight, steve
  12. i maybe long in the tooth but i'm a student of the school of hard knocks,do i too qualify for this "budding" discount?..................................probably not
  13. i think it pays to keep as active as possible to prevent injury.i gave up football at the age of 33 not really through injury (the odd ache maybe) but more about family commitments.i've had 4 years of back, shoulder, knees and ankle trouble ever since, this year i've been coaxed out of retirement and feel like a new man, could be coincidence and being older i will inevitably be more subsceptible to injury(touch wood) but i'm sure its doing me good
  14. radiohead for me most mornings, neil young on the way home!
  15. IMO all terrains are rubbish off road, last winter i bought 4 kuhmo mud terrains (30/9.50) for my fourtrak at 244 quid delivered from camskill in cumbria,25 quid to get them fitted,18k miles now they are half worn, bit noisy on road but not that bad,off road they're awesome,i was going to change to a/t's in the summer but i can live with them
  16. nptc is a good idea in principle,i took all mine way back in 1993-94 after advice from my district forester,it was all about weeding out cowboys then and us "pro's" would reap the benefit and command higher fees for our work.i even did the windblow certificate which i was assured would make me "specialist",to this day i have been asked for references, insurances, portfolios etc but never an nptc certificate, tell a lie, once on some crap weekend railway clearance work i did because times were hard
  17. lombardy is all i burn, apart from the midnight oil
  18. my mrs just sends out the quotes with "payment due on completion" yellow highlighted at the bottom.if domestic i usually pick up the cheque/cash before i leave, commercial she rings and e-mails and quite often collects in person usually within the same working week, she's a business accountant by trade so i suppose old habits die hard and i'm lucky to have her,but don't tell her i said that:blushing:
  19. i take it you're a consciencious objector jason? attacking people unprovoked maybe, but also being killed themselves willy nilly for 200 quid a week.anybody fancy swapping with them?..............................no,i thought not
  20. yeah its true alright.green ash fine, dry ash nasty, with a bench like i use (mcconnell pto, still the best lol) if you dont keep the underneath clear it whips up in your face all day,you also know if your woods dry or not because any moisture will spray in your face from the cut
  21. what is love anyway?!! i think the word "affection" would be more appropriate when describing family dogs.i agree with jason that dogs that attack humans unprovoked should be immediately destroyed but how many humans attack humans unprovoked and cause harm to children and are soon at large again in society?
  22. elm can be bad i agree, when i'm on the sawbench its really dry ash that gets me,if i only wear a visor and cut it all day it burns my eyes out of their sockets almost, can't be good for your health
  23. it just aint gonna catch on here MB,the ball needs to be round my friend
  24. in my experience euan people are very protective over wood,i've been in the firewood game for nearly 20yrs.a few years ago i was laid up for nearly 12 months with my back, slowly easing back into work i enquired with alot of local guys in the trade about buying some wood as i had neither the time or the physical capability to fell and process my own firewood.mostly i found they would not sell me the steam off their proverbial s**t! your best hope would be to find a farmer or two with a few acres of coppice, some dead hedgerow trees etc, strike up a trust and be fair with them, offer them a percentage of the produce for themselves and go from there, hope this helps, steve
  25. or a quick dob of super glue in the gap! i had 2 saws do that while i used the supermarket oil, both 200t's,think its common but not sure if its linked to oil type?
