  6. thats what my bodging brother in law told me.i have a second 7 pin socket but thats where it goes over my (non-electrical) head.if left plugged in will it fry my trailer battery or will it work in conjunction with the truck's alternator?
  7. busy time of year again(well,on conifers at least),tipping the ifor williams sometimes 3 times a day, trouble is i nearly always forget to put her on charge when i need to,thus resulting in very slow hand cranking or asking customer 'can i plug my trailer into your mains please?' have been told you can rig her up to charge off the truck, does anyone know what i need to do this or have done it themselves and whats involved? cheers, steve
  8. gotta say thats a cracker big ammer,i wish they would but for 80 a day cash they would rather throw wood about and leave old boilers to plumbers!!!
  9. had a pair of sip 6.1's (front protection only) for about 12 months now, small exhaust burn on one leg but have worn very well and should do another year easily.bought them from ARBIRELAND off the web at a very good price, best pair i've had so far,can recommend
  10. punctuality is good,as is politeness.always turn up clean with your shirt tucked in,regrdless of what state you finish up in.i also find when people say 'any cheaper for cash' if you say 'no sorry,i have to account for it' it shows them an honest professional businesslike approach
  11. surely 'exceptional' climbers are worth alot more? i know 'good' gardeners that earn that!!
  12. how true,my fourtrak decided to leak gearbox oil over a clients nice new block paving today, its going to be fixed monday so my mrs's new crv will be full of oily saws and sweaty men for a day, she's gonna love me!!

  14. the irony is with more and more rules,hi-viz,h&s,insurances,pli,eli,etc etc the price we need to charge for work has probably doubled in what,10 years? i wish the profit had
  15. guys i think stihl err on the side of caution with rec. bar lengths sometimes, probably covering their arse on warranty claims and looking for increased sales.surely what your cutting can have a massive bearing on choice of saw/bar length etc? my 440 runs a 25" all day but give it some hedgerow elm(aka concrete) and it cowers in the van,out comes the 88,25" and it eats it,job done.horses for courses
  16. thats exactly true dean, its taken me 15 years on that principle, the only snag i've found is when you take on more men/expand etc you lose the high standards you set for years,i'm happy now just servicing my loyal customer base using casual labour and even the missus when needs must,(although its not so easy to sneak a pint in then on the way home)
  17. if you aint doing it for two weeks be careful mr smith dont sneak round and beat your quote by a fiver!!
