  1. Half our staff are Irish, other half are Eastern bloc, so wont be throwing any stones ? K
  2. ..... I think Cornwall is safe for a bit ? k
  3. Removing a tree which then causes heave, to yours or a neighbouring property with foreknowledge wouldnt be defendable. Hence a soil report ( which includes drains which can often be part of the issue ) Knowing wot yr house is sat on is a worthwhile cost. I am NOT saying heave WILL occur here, but cost of damage could be bitter pill if the structure has not got heave protection. Hence structural survey. Its a balancing act. Which is why i got the white sheet n rattly chains out ? but data gives you a position to judge best course. K
  4. @benedmonds - good - I always ask for a Structural damage report and a Soil report, often a Arb report too ( thou I often do that myself as it is Our trees they are claiming for soil shrinkage ) . a) this weeds out the chancers who are looking for a wad to fix their shoddy extension built without Planning Permission b) if it is a serious claim , their insurance company will actually do this ( actionable nuisance etc ) c) although nearly all claims are on London clay - a few are not - last proper claim was on a gravel substrate , the builder just did not go down the extra metre to it ! d) Our trees 'might be' causing soil shrinkage - but so are the honking great Leylandii in their next doors garden ! Then it gets interesting .... K
  5. Very like Andy Summerly at Tree Life.......
  6. ... thanks Kev K
  7. Or it might tell you exactly how to procede Ben, but then I have been handling tree related subsidence claims for TfL for a few years now - so what would I know , eh ? K ( I'll get me white cloak n rattly chains )

    Jokes???

Old Iggy still showing fast living , booze , drugs and no sense of dress style dont harm non K
  9. In a word Bellinda - No. Frankly you will need far more detail and proper assessment by a subsidence savvy arborist plus an engineers report for soil and structure. Obvs this costs - but you are trying to establish guarantees here, so online searching cannot do that. It can only point you in the right direction. K
  10. @markrufrider that a Hillman Minx in the shot ? k
  11. They all doing it . Risk aversion - from my personal finance advisor. K
  12. If you tip yr head so yr ear is on yr shoulder - that does work . K ( 'ask a stupid question - get stupid answer' ' Confucious' )
  13. I think people equate ' tight' with 'safe' you only have to get yr wheel changed at the local tyre fitters to find that . I torque wrench wheel nuts now so if I or anyone else has to change a wheel - it will actually come off !! Had to stand on a wheel wrench once after car had new tyre fitted , to crack the bolt . K
  14. yr indeed correct Mr Stubby - wot is also correct is that Challenger II had to have new engine packs chinooked in on a daily basis in the Gulf war , as they fell appart in the desert . In spite of other countries still managing to run their tank fleet in desert conditions ( which ARE f@cking harsh on anything anyway - but they manage ) mate was supervising that flight and the cost alone was astronomical . K
  15. .... And lets not forget that shite SA80 fr the troops cos a gun that jams when you just look at it is a massive saving on bullets.... Along with a Cheiftan that HAS to run on domestic heating oil but cannot climb a hill.... Fab 120mm gun, just as long as the enemy are attacking within 5km of a block of German flats.... ? K
  16. Commons Defence committee have been clueless since WW2, bunch of uninformed twats. K ( oh yea.... Lets sell off our fleet of Harrier VStol aircraft cos we wont need them for that new aircraft carrier we building....... )

    Stihl ultra

Not run saws in anger fr a while. But stihl dont know why they keep changing stuff. The posting on ethanol levels might be closer to the truth but i would be furious losing so many saws to that. K

    Stihl ultra

Baffling. Sounds like a mixing issue but yr too experienced for that to be the case- dunno why the hell all my saws have run for ages on old Stihl red, then this new stuff arrives and saws fail ? k
  19. Sorright Kev, we still dont know what the question is yet but keep posting interesting stuff an we will get there in the end. K
  20. A good range of technically informed and working experience here, if i were Forst, i would be getting a new blade design out, pronto, and, god forbid before someone is killed. Seen a few blades let go and frankly two instances where a bloke could have been hospitalised. I understand a corporate position on this but look at Boeing and thos Max aircraft.......... K
  21. @wisewoodfantastic mate, k
  22. It is an ongoing grind for me, enthusiastic as i am abt this profession, to see lost skills or devalued work. K
  23. Disagree with staged reduction opinion here. I have recovered many Cherry with a pruning regime to counter pronounced lean or shading issues, it is species specific and will not always fit the bill ( certainly not here) but it can recover a crown along with good root care. Costly i know but then wot is a tree worth? K
  24. Do you age discrimination ? ( ok @Stubby worth a shot ) k
  25. I dont even wear that on the Tube mate
