  1. Can't remember the model number but it was one of the older style Dolmars about 14 years ago I guess. 60cc(ish) saw running a 15" bar. It certainly cut through timber! Was quite heavy compared to the equivelant husky and stihl saws of the day though
  2. Yet to see a road tow one, just pto machines. Mog owners seem to love them! Never used one myself
  3. You can get lucky but yeah most saws being sold are being sold for a reason. I sell mine off when i think they are going to start costing me money. Someone always happy to pay over the odds for used saws too which i will never understand
  4. work up till christmas eve, everyone wants it done last minute as always. Every year I tell myself I am going to put my foot down and say no but I never do
  5. How high will these things actually lift?
  6. big improvement for me. It wasn't particularly slow for me before but not its almost instant.
  7. You could have easily done that from a throwline
  8. Thats a different perspective I hadn't really thought about!
  9. hmmm yes that is quite ridiculous
  10. True it probably is on the cheap side, but its going to be an easy day. I didn't think it was 'low ball' cheap though.
  11. I don't get many quotes at all to do yet. I supposed I get 60% of what I quote. I don't mind losing jobs but not by those margins
  12. I didn't get the impression thats what she was doing. She made no attempt to barter and was very apologetic.
  13. I'm a freelance climber and looking to get more of my own work. I am asking myself if its really worth the hassle though? I earn a decent rate and have absolutely no stress but i appreciate its not really sustainable long term. Heres an example of what I am up against. Last week I went to price a tree for a customer. A Sycamore approximately 2ft diameter and 60ft high. Just about every shrub known to man planted below leaving quite a small drop one, ideally everything needs rigging. All timber to be logged on site but stacked around the other side of the house which is a good distance away, lots of wheel barrowing. Chips to leave site. I quoted £400 for 2 men for a day which I think is a more than reasonable price, allowing us to take our time and not damage anything. 2 hours of my time it took, plus 2 minutes back in the office writing out the quote, checking for conservation areas etc. Today she calls and tells me she liked me and my quote but has just been quoted £200 by another company she assures me are a professional outfit. I asked for the company name out of curiosity and sure enough they are a well established company in my area and from what I see generally work to a pretty high standard. So how and why would an established company work for nothing, I don't see the reasoning. Even if work is slow, they are surely working at a loss on those rates! How common do you guys find situations like this, and is it really worth it?
  14. seen quite a few of these and always wanted to cut them open to see what they are like inside. Do wood turners do much with these?
  15. I couldn't really see much difference to the treemotion at all with the exception of the leg pads, and different coloured hardware.
  16. It looks the ideal set up how you have it. I like the idea of the trolley, but not the idea of another bit of kit to pack every day. Having it mounted like you do is perfect.
  17. I use one of these on my wolf pole pruner, butts up against the hip just lovely. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wolf-Tools-ZSM-Cord-Tidy-Garden-Patio-/232220537458?epid=1105165668&hash=item36116c3272:g:J0cAAOSwZjJU8epU
  18. Does the arbor trolley get much use?

    Another vote for Gleditsia
  20. This is exactly my experience. Flakey? Because facebook makes it so easy for them to be. The facebook selling groups are the biggest bug bear for me, flakey isn't the word
