1. Is there any info if pruning an elm may help with infection of DED? I know that sounds like I'm trying to infect an elm but I'm not. Got a decent ish sized one(the only ones I see are shrub/hedge size usually) that may need pruning (phone lines etc) but was thinking if it may create a path for infection I might try and persuade them not to prune it. Any info mucho appreciated. Oh it looks very healthy with no signs of leaf discolouration die back etc.
2. Ah well there are worse places to get trapped in. I hope it was the beer garden and not the tree. I hope they werent injured. I hope they dont read this.
3. Shhhhh dont say that out loud mate. If the training NPTC boys see that they will be conjuring up all sorts of new units. CS60-How to deal with customers over the phone.
4. Good to see you found it:thumbup1: Whats the reason if any for the massive fees in buying it, anyone know? I would think that it should really be free on the net to DL or at a more reasonable price than £86:sneaky2:
5. As long as the saw is still in good nick and it hasn't been running lean and scored the barrel then for about £70 I'd say it's worth replacing.

Sounds like you really need a captive audience to make it work. How about the TV's they have in doctor's surgery waiting rooms? Now that could be worth looking into.
7. Aye it is a bin of 90% useless rubbish. I will have a look tomorrow but I doubt it. Dropped out of the tree?
8. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/tree-health-care/17559-brownheaded-ash-sawfly.html Looks similar to me. Although youve prob also just looked at that thread too.
9. Is it in as good a nick as these? Only jk they are for Mozza, do you reckon theres a saw in there somewhere. IF that 020T from 1996 is in good condition and not all rusty on the inside the cylinder(although carb parts will have probably perished) then it will probably make a nice strong saw.
10. I dont think your crazy, maybe a little bonkers though. Well I'm not that good at maths but go on then, I'll give it a try.
11. Well I have a stump grinder that if you can walk to the stump you can grind it. Plus asking if theres straight access to get a 3 foot wide 10 foot long machine that weighs half a ton isnt too difficult. Besides I only do that if it sounds very straight forward. Its way way way easier imo to have a price structure for a tree stump than a tree.
12. WOW! Must say your are better than me at this job. Well me and the rest of the arb world:001_tongue: I get jobs wrong when I'm standing there looking at them:blushing: The only jobs I will price over the phone are stump jobs (even those not very often)and for that they must get off their arse and get the tape measure out. Even then I tell them if there wrong I will be charging X amount more for every inch they have under measured.
13. I'm not that bad that I have to see a shrink just yet:laugh1: I hope. Narr seriously I have no problem whatsoever in communicating in real life no matter how I come across on here. This type of client doesnt come along very often. Besides I had no problem communicating with him although he wasnt British so his accent wasnt too good! Anyway I waste my time looking at jobs that people dont want to pay for (yes the big problem of being in the YP that everyone moans about) and dont get done so its better off that he cancelled and didnt waste my time any further.
14. I thought used vegetable oil was carcinogenic? That's why I thought they had to change it often. Might be worth looking into it since there was as thread agreed ago about used engine oil giving foresters cancer. I know used engine is nastier stuff but might be worth bearing in mind.
15. Ha another loser bites the dust. An we dont even sell cars, we are a motorbike specialist.
16. If you call round to our show room you can browse hassle free with no obligation to buy, or you can visit our web site and browse there.
17. Just found this while searching for some stats. It was linked from this site. this is why amateurs shouldn't be alowed chainsaws... Could be interesting to see what non arb pro's think of chainsaws although not read any of it so I could be wrong.
18. I found some ages ago on a web site, if I find them again I'll let you know.
19. I need to know which one you want to buy, have you seen it in our ad in the autotrader?
20. Hey you told me to start quizzing him on the ambidextrous tendencies of a badger.,then call him an idiot!
21. Which one are you after Sir?
22. Cheers for the Psychoanalysis. You could be completely right. Although I reckon your way off. This is how I see it. The guy takes a look in his garden and thinks "Hmmmm I might get rid of that tree, I wonder how much it will cost" Actually might not even be his tree maybe his neighbours that he doesnt like. Calls me wanting to know how much it will cost to see if its worth getting done, realises that someone actually needs to see the job before even thinking about pricing it. Then decides to phone a couple of other tree surgeons maybe hoping he will get a price over the phone but probably residing to the fact they will also want a site visit. Calls a few up who no doubt with the amount of work about are doing nothing so can come out and price it up there and then. Gets a price thinks fook that thats way more than what its worth for cutting just a tree down. Calls me to cancel the visit and has a look on ebay for a chainsaw. Oh and he probably is on some money saving website complaining about how expensive it is to cut down a tree and that the firewood must be worth a fortune so he's going to do it himself. I've priced plenty of jobs that have never been done I see this one as no different, so I dont see how you can guarantee that he will pay to get it taken down. I shoulda just been more aggressive like you recommended then I wouldnt have wasted 20 seconds listening to him telling me not to bother as he woulda just put the phone down in the first call. Quite a few people do call thinking I can give a piece over the phone but the ones that are worth bothering with ask once they agree I need to come out after Ive told them once that I need to see the job, not 3 or maybe 4 times I think it was he insisted on a price. Anyhow doesnt matter one less journey and waste of fuel and I can see that others get the same calls but deal a bit more harshly than me.
23. Agree with every thing that's been said:thumbup1: As long as you do as professional job then why not. I'd be cleaning gutters if it paid enough and I was asked to do it.
24. Did you manage to get it sorted? You the linkages i was talking about aren't really part of the carb. They might just be bent or not connected properly. What should happen is if you put the engine on full throttle without it running the butterfly in the carb should be fully open. When you start the engine the butterfly should close but not fully. As the engine gets loaded IE when it starts to cut the butterfly should open more to give more power. It is difficult to explain and also hated to see if its working correctly.
25. Rev There's nothing wrong whatsoever in asking a stupid question. What is wrong is when you keep asking the same question then not listening when the response is I can't answer your question now but if you just let me do xxx then I can help you out. I didn't try to make as fool out of him the very first thing I said was that i need some details so I can look st the job. That's when he started to persistently ask for a quote over the phone. I ask stupid questions all the time:thumbup: Btw meant to say asking for a price on tree work isn't a stupid question. I say that in relation to my comments not yours before someone points it out:thumbup1:
