  1. Are they not taking you on because there is not enough work or because you dont have the relevant NPTC that they require? If its the former then tbh more training wont do you any good if its the latter then maybe it will. Its seems from reading on here and knowing what its like in my area that it differs greatly across the country as to the amount of work available.
  2. Ive read quite a few posts over the years where people think they are asking a silly question or say they are glad someone asked because they didnt want to. I have no problem with being embarrassed and constantly say and ask silly things all the time:blushing: Anyway I just thought of a question I think maybe a bit silly and thought I would start a thread where anyone can ask anything(whithin forum rules:sneaky2:) and NO ONE can take the piss or give a silly answer. So here are my ?'s To all you lads and lasses with mog's that are totally enclosed, how do you tell when it is full or nearly full with chip? Also what do you do when removing timber(on jobs where its not worth also towing a timber trailer ie just a few bits of timber that wont chip) because they look awkward to throw timber into?
  3. If I'm going to be honest loads of tools that I never use while out on the job! But, you never know:laugh1: Handy stuff is a 1/2 inch socket set going from 8mm-24mm(fits bolts on chipper blades) same size in spanners, screwdrivers various sizes handy to remove garden gates for better access etc, nice big crow bar plaenty of nuts and bolts, a big shifting spanner and pipe wrench, some mole grips, cable ties, duct tape and the all important tuning screwdriver. I also have loads of other crap but since it all stays in the truck all the time its not a hassle to have it there. I also have a separate tool box that contains plenty of chainsaw parts and spare chains, files etc.
  4. I'm thinking the same atm. You have to put something like a third(so I was told by a financial advisor!) of your wages into a pension to get a nice one at the end, hoping there isnt another crash just as your about to draw it.
  5. Yep same here I think in depth written RA's are just as an insult as a MS. As soon as it starts to spit with rain you are supposed to stop works re-evaluate an make sure everyone is informed.
  6. Ah so thats the key, loads of beer. Also depends on what injuries you pick up over the years, I expect my wrists, shoulders and knees to be well shot by the time I reach 50!

Sorry mate but I still see no connection. Imo you can't compare the two circumstances. What were the 3 people doing to justify raoul firing at them?
  8. Peter. Whats your truck rated at? Just asking out of interest.
  9. HA, now thats more like it. Do husky make a decent blower? Ive never ever ever seen anyone with one! TBH though why they use a greasable spocket does baffle me,I have stihl bars that have been well and truly battered and the sprocket still works sound. I have an old oregon bar that has a fooked sprocket because I didnt bother to grease it, and theres still paint on the bar. Well there was, I binned it the other day.
  10. If you put gsm wireless alarm into ebay loads of different types will pop up. I think this is the one I have, well looks the same but I bought it a good few years ago and there are probably better ones now. WIRELESS GSM BURGLAR ALARM SYSTEM FIRE PIR RRP£499 on eBay (end time 13-Aug-10 17:53:12 BST) BTW I have nothing to do with the sale of that its just a good idea I think thats all.
  11. Pffftt rubbish answer your supposed to retort.
  12. Hating all the threads on stolen gear lately. So thought I would open a thread on some ideas to help us keep are well earned and worked for gear. Personally I think the most important thing is to be informed when someone is trying to nick your gear. Someone with an oxy acetylene backpack and whizzer can cut through all your expensive padlocks in a couple of minutes and set of your alarm but if theres no one there so see/hear it.... So my advice first off would be to buy a GSM wireless alarm. They cost under £200 take less than an hour to install and will text and call you if someone trips the alarm or sets the smoke alarm off. Its on pay as you go so no costs unless you get a call. I know Dean has a nice alarm system so hopefully he will explain a bit more on that. Any other tips/tricks or good bits of security gear welcome.
  13. Well I think the greasable sprocket on the husky to be purely rubbish so there........

Tbh I dont understand how the thread about defending your property has any bearing on this one.
  15. It would seem that if you get pulled over its all about luck. I know its not a mog but ive been pulled over by vosa a few times in the last couple of months in a 3.5 tonner and 6 inch chipper. Each time they mention different minor faults and sometimes check out the chipper and sometimes not. Up to now ive been lucky.
  16. Its not for us its so the customer can see how your going to do the job and have it in writing so if anything goes wrong they have something to reference to. IE you state on your method statement that you are going to section down a dodgy dead tree with a MEWP, you then think bugger it and drop it in one, goes the wrong way and does some damage. You are well and truly fecked. You might explain what your going to do verbally to one site agent but the next day another one is in his place, he can just pick up the method statement and see whats going on. Another other rubbish along those lines.
  17. Now that would be a novelty! I also like it when they bung a little island right in the way so it forces you into oncoming traffic.
  18. As far as I know it is a cash cow for the government as the funds from the fines go to the treasury but the up keep of the cameras is paid for by the councils. Tbh I would rather see more cameras and less speed bumps. Also IIRC cameras can only be installed in spots where there has been something like 2 accidents resulting in death within something like 3 years, so they cant just bung them up anywhere ie thats why when people complain and ask for a camera they put speed bumps in instead. I would just rather see more coppers on the road who can also be on the look out for other types of crime happening rather than only speeding. BTW I've been done for speeding a couple of times and I'm not complaining about it one bit, all my own fault. BUT THEY SHOULD BE OUT THERE CATCHING REAL CRIMINALS!!!!
  19. I find the chains on Stihl saws to be sharper tbh.
  20. Thatll teach him not to try and run a copper over then take chase! I bet he was a well know local hard man/drug dealer runs hoe's on the side.
  21. Yep another load of paper work rubbish but to be fair to some of the people that request them half couldnt care whats in them they just need to have them. As Graham said god help us in the future! Ive been successful on a few nice jobs because a couple of the other companies quoting "Dont really do method statements" so it is worth sorting a nice easy one out that takes a few minutes to make site specific. My method statement would have included the methods required in disposing of the tea bag tbh. This is part of the reason Mrs Miggins gets a better deal on tree work than Mr Commercial.

Very sad indeed. I read about him being blinded in both eyes the other week and thought how terrible that must be. I'm being serious when i say this but imo anyone who says they think Raoul was a hero really needs some psychiatrict help ,they must have some mental issues!
  23. Gonna have to make sure I catch that!! Havent watched any crosser stuff since the days of supercross when Damon Bradshaw ruled. Makes me wanna buy a bike again .
  24. Is it a highway/LA tree or domestic/commercial land?
  25. Hey I said many not all. I'm just posting on behalf of all the members that are to scared to go against the grain. Plus its raining again outside so no work and I'm bored.
