  1. You dont say! That one in your avatar has a whopper of a bar on it:thumbup1: What size? Sounds like a good relationship youve built up there.
  2. Real men couldnt give a ****.(damn)
  3. I think they want to try it out on a big chain on a big saw. Unless they did and blah sayed past it I mean in a professional market its probably not worth it on a small saw/chain but could be on the 066/088 it could be.
  4. Heres the take down [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8hHNeXlNcI]YouTube - Hazzardous Pine Removal May 25 2010[/ame] BTW, theres no way I could of climbed that since there were no pegs to stand on:thumbdown:
  5. I think you need a dust mask that has a vent flap thing. It stops the warm breath fogging up your glasses.
  6. Yes you did but the pics havent uploaded yet:confused1:
  7. I think there is a hairs breadth between a near miss and a catastrophic accident in this industry. We should all know the dangers but when an accident happens it happens in the blink of an eye. One second your doing your job the next your thinking 'What just happened!' Although obvious I suppose or there would be no accidents:001_smile:
  8. Tbh from what ive seen on TV( and we al know TV never lies:thumbup1:) American houses are made from dust and cardboard. How that house manages to last through the winter leaf drop is a mystery to me.
  9. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVFnO5O1zKg]YouTube - Failing Pine[/ame] Just something I came across while looking for irrevelavant tree stuff Interesting though!
  10. Definitely a good thought for the day. You do sometimes need to stop and think what your doing or how your doing it. It is difficult though like others say in that you do need to push yourself and/or be pushed to get the best out of yourself and improve your skills. All I would say though is if you do think something is way beyond your capabilities then dont have any fear in saying so and don't ridicule or push someone too far who does, as it may be on your conscience for the rest of your life. We should all have a thinking/looking at what your doing day every now and then.
  11. I think your right there about it not causing any problems. I sometimes sharpen our ones on a bench grinder and its fairly easy to get them the same thickness. Besides when you see the amount of crap stuck to different parts of the flywheel and the odd chunk missing where something nasty has gone through I doubt a couple of grams of steel would make much difference.
  12. It should as the intention is to kill the tree.Even if it does nothing. Ive seen the old copper nail story tried out but as far as I know it never works. Another one was putting grit ie salt around the base, someone did it to a syc which did look a bit poor but was still alive.
  13. You miserable sod Bob. You werent that helpful when I asked you for advice on splicing:sneaky2:
  14. No you wouldn't, you would be on a truckers forum kicking off that some bint had cut you up and nearly caused a pile up. An rightly so, she could have caused a lot of mayhem there! Hopefully she got a ban or at least a load of points for dangerous driving. The poor guy musta been traumatised after that.
  15. I would guess also that they have given you the wrong set as it would just cost them a lot more to take that amount off without any reason and not charge you extra.
  16. I'll say 285
  17. Nice job there. Thats a whopper of a tree and it looks like they have a few nice other ones too. Any idea on the age?
  18. Excellent fell, and at the right height too:thumbup1: Sorry just had to.
  19. You could put one of the 40 hp kohler,s on that would be a nice chipper! Imo the kohlers are good engines if you look after them well.you need to use the right weight off oil 10-30 or the piston rings can get damaged so says mr kohler. Also don't side load the crank too much ie don't run the belts too tight or it can damage the crank and casing as there are no bearings there for some reason! Well not on the ones ive taken to bits. They are also fitted to quite a lot off grinders so they cant be to bad in the dirt. Surprised at the poor quality and problems with the honda engine though.
  20. Mesterh

    burnt

Just eat it and apply it to your skin or have you got to do stuff to it first? Only ask since I have one in a pot:thumbup:
  21. Your right about not forming pockets but I think its more to do with weak attachments. Ive seen quite a few split out where you can see they were topped at hedge height many years before, grown very leggy and either pushed against each other or became more susceptible to wind throw. In fact the last bit about wind throw has probably caused the most failures ive seen. The one that failed on me had been hedged at about 6 feet with maybe another 15 feet on top of that, I was tied into only one stem my(poor judgement on my side) an as I leaned out to start the saw it failed at my feet (the 6 foot hedge height) This was all along time ago 13+years but it still makes me wary.
  22. Cheers thanks for taking the pics and posting..
  23. I do admire your work ethics and concerns for others. But, going back to my comment on the leylandii topping dont you think its just the same? Topping a leylandii, be it a specimen or a hedge creates the same structural weaknesses as topping a hardwood. I've seen them fail and been on the end of one failing while tied into it, which was nice at all since I fell about eight foot onto my back with the 020under me which fortunately wasnt running.
  24. Also so it doesnt explode fumes and fuel in your face if you undo the fuel cap or fuel can! Can take a coating off your eyeballs which is a bit nasty. I think the fuel in the tank expands which can force fuel past the needle jet in the carb causing the engine to flood.
  25. Got to agree with you on that one. Have been up trees like that in the past where the top has been taken out and the side limbs left, and they are really awkward to do:thumbdown:
