  1. No No, i agree you really make sense. On the next woodland I'll definitely have a fire every day. Thanks
  2. Its not my timber to sell, the farmer i used to work for owns the woodlands, Im just being paid to cut/stack the timber and clear all the brash. It is only the 3ft cut logs that will be sold. The last woodland will be completed by end of february, but the one i'm in at the mo will be finished on 5th January.
  3. The guy i have been coppicing for has taken a 15 ton trailer load of the wood we have cut but would like to sell the rest. We have coppiced a 1.4 acre area of a woodland near Ongar, Essex. All wood has been cut to 3ft lengths and stacked up (larger than cords though) There is a lot of wood here, 95% Hornbeam and 5% Field Maple. I would say that it would fill at least another 10 trailer loads (15 ton). Also there is 2 other woodlands across the road from this one to coppice 1.4 acres in, so loads more to come. The wood is solid, and the trunks are roughly 12-20 DBH. If anyone is interested please PM me and i'll put you on to the farmer. Many Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all. Ben
  4. We have been felling all the tops into the fire heaps, and i do keep thinking of starting a fire but we only have one day cutting left now in that particular woodland. Will definitely have a fire from start when we start the next.
  5. Steve Pike from Writtle college?, I think Steve Woodley took over from him
  6. Ha ha, my mrs has got me some boot driers for xmas...but im not allowed them yet!! LOL. Have used the t&g cut several times before, its been handy here as there is a greenlane/footpath beside the wood with a stream so any side leaners have had this cut, saves using the winch and it stops the hinge from breaking off sideways, you need to know the limits though, I havnt tried it on anything with too much lean
  7. i think i need to polish them a bit more....hopefully they'll dry out over Xmas so i can get them polished, got 4 more acres to coppice this winter so want dry feet:001_smile: We are borrowing a teleporter/grab from the landowner when we have finished this woodland so wanted to have one big fire, it'd be a pain starting a little fire every day
  8. its a great job yeah, but looking up at the tree as you're falling and getting snow in your eyes, lumps of ice falling off, soaked feet and then getting freezing cold when you stop for a tea break....its not all fun:001_smile:
  9. back to the thread with some coppicing pics, tongue and groove cut, and a couple of bore/release from today....
  10. I've been coppicing Hornbeam/Field Maple for the last few days, mostly 80ft trees with 18"DBH. Im working in the middle of nowhere and have lost count of the number of people who have approached me asking for the wood....we are stacking it up for the land owner to collect in the Spring....One van even turned up beside the wood in the field, guy got out, saw us, ran off and got stuck!! i dont think there will be half as much wood left by the Spring for the land owner to collect!!
  11. thats spot on dean...also the cuts werent horizontal/level
  12. I agree, hadnt watched the whole thing....nice collection but a few round files to his collection wouldnt go a miss...not a fan of the 3120 to be honest anyway:thumbup1:
  13. I think the guy could sharpen better!! the 084 was pretty slow i thought to what it could be
  14. Cheers for that, what a great website! next time around i will definitely look into gettong some bits. Anything that can make a job safer is the way forward. Thanks:thumbup1:
  15. yeah, sometimes i put my old Weaver harness on...to give my boys a break!!
  16. Have a look on the Husky website, they have parts list and specs for old saws i believe
  17. I cant seem to get my treemagic2 to stop trapping my plumbs every now and then....anyone got any advice?
  18. At least you're honest.....dont worry size isnt everything.....apparently!!
  19. Thanks guys, but all done now, i managed to get a rope in two of them and did the others off the ladder and had a lanyard when near the top. thanks for your advice
  20. Nah, to be honest they look good in their setting, and cutting the knuckle off would spoil them. They are outside some offices so better than nothing
  21. Guess im buggered in my old faithful Husky helmet!! HAHA
  22. Yeah, there are four, and its do-able in a day for me and groundie, access would be a pain as there is only a small track that is access to a carpark, so MEWP would have to be moved every 5 mins to let a car in or out....also the cost, it seems a little over the top to price in a Mewp for such small easy trees. It doesnt need one so i dont want to eat in to the profit. Just wanted your guys ideas for safety mainly....I always feel like a cowboy using a saw off a ladder
  23. Yeah this works, but this doesnt really help for the top...ok it would stop a bad fall but you cant really work from it at the top
  24. an anchor point on what joe??? the stems are too thin to tie into...and its a straight stem with a wider ball type top....old pollards
