  1. The reason I stay as a two man team is quality, stay small, stay reliable and earn a good reputation, that way you maximise profit. One thing I have learnt, the more tackle you have, the more hassle and headaches you have. A five year apprenticeship for plumber/ electrician is quite quick compared to tree surgery, I did three years a long time ago and nine years since I set up again, a total of twelve years and I still only know only a fraction of what is to learn in tree work. Like I say, electrics are easy, auto electrics are a bit harder and plumbing any monkey can learn
  2. I know two electricians running their own setups, both live near me and both live in houses I could never afford ( my wife is a staff nurse and brings in £25k ) and drive cars that I could never afford and have time off I could never afford. Learning electrics and plumbing is easy
  3. I wonder how many hoops we have to jump through compared to say a corgi registration or an electricians tickets, I bet it's a he'll of a lot more
  4. Did a medium sized fairly awkward take down today that I priced at £495, everything had to be lowered and two of us easily finished it in the day leaving site spotless. Customer tipped me £55 which quite shocked me, she insisted I take it. She had just had two different trades in doing jobs, one was a satellite engineer to run a new cable. The job took him 55 minutes and he charged £500 and a locksmith to change her euro locks which took an hour and lightened her purse by a huge amount. She said both men had a small briefcase containing their tools She said that I turned up with thousands upon thousands of pounds worth of equipment, two men, and spent all day sweating like a dog without so much as bending the stem of any of her plants and obviously carried out the job Very professionally for the same amount as they charged. She was absolutely over the moon and said she was pleasantly surprised when she received our quote. Nice to get positive feedback
  5. I believe god, the bible and the fear of god, was the way of keeping the population in check and was invented by the Einstein of the time We should do away with religion now as it obviously doesn't work, most of the worlds wars are religion based. Humans are the most destructive, evil and selfish species on the planet and deserve to be eradicated by their own sword, which is what will happen eventually If we don't eradicate the human race through war, it will be through famine On a brighter note, not bad weather this aft
  6. Just release any pressure when you draw the file backwards and apply pressure when pushing forwards, it clears the swarf without it damaging the surface you are filing and make the file work more efficiently
  7. Your a Gem Daniel, I like your nice chilled out approach to even the most mundane of tasks Like has been said, never file on the backstroke though
  8. Same here with a dunsley Yorkshire stove, no smoke whatsoever when warmed up to operating temp, very efficient Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  9. Clean out your work truck and you'll find all those lost pens I found nine ( which isn't the most I've found ), a spoon and a .410 cartridge. No cheating
  10. My neighbour bought a tipper load from someone else about a month ago, they are still outside in a pile uncovered and so far unused. That tells a tale to me, obviously cheaper, but so wet they are unusable. There,s no point buying my fully seasoned logs and then leaving them outside in the rain (-:
  11. I would insulate, it,s ok warming the unit during the day with free heat from the sun, the problem is then in the evening when the exterior temp is low and inside relatively warmer causing the moisture to condense heavily on the inside. If you insulate well very little heat will be needed to raise the internal temperature, i would have thought you wouldnt need to renew the air in the container, just remove the moisture from the air and drain to the outside
  12. My thoughts exactly. I have had many many dealings with travellers, unfortunately the majority were bad! I also know travellers that would rather die than jib on an handshake. However, I would never in a million years, work for a traveller, unless I knew him very very well or he was recommended by the same
  13. So he,s an expert in tree work then just because he has a mansion?
  14. The only way you,d get a mewp for an hour is if someone was using one that day and did it on their way home. Getting my mewp out, preparing it, checking it etc takes half a day sometimes and then you have the trip to and from, the setting up and then it's to put away again. Your going to struggle to find someone that will only charge you an hours rent Just get a few more Jameson poles
  15. This is mine, Its a GT45D and will easily pick up a decent sized tree whole
  16. In 1 and a half hours, I can drive from one side of the country to the other, I don't think I,ve ever drove more than 20 mins to one of my own jobs
  17. I'm with you Felix, leave well alone if it's got nuts, there's always another night
  18. I have that stuff on the front of my barn, it stops rain and snow blowing in but allows air circulation, no good as a tarp though
  19. It might also need a service they are very temperamental sometimes when nearing a service interval.
  20. I would pay a little more to have uk based call centres.
  21. Super jaws used to be elu, then dewalt now triton. They are good bits of kit I have an elu one buried in the garage. I think they still come up on ebay Oh and they have the "log jaw" to buy as an accessorie
  22. The paperwork hasn't,t come through as yet but we asked about the cooling off period just in case. Then if the tariffs work out near to each other once I have had a session on the calculator, I can decide to either swap or stick with eon. If the tariffs do work out similar I will be back on here apologising with my tail between my legs
  23. It would be good to get some of this kit together at one of the shows and have a little arbtalk gear testing session:001_smile:
  24. Eon charged us 23.4p per unit and the new company charge 12.6p per unit.
  25. Looked a bit cumbersome and fiddley to me, I would say the uniscender would be a much better setup
