  1. That's how I live my life
  2. I took the arm off because last time the ball joint went I used a kit, but couldn't change the inner part because it needed pressing out and to do that I needed to take the arm off. the price difference between the complete arm and a kit was very little so I have just changed the whole lot this time
  3. The new drop arm has gone onto the splines with a very liberal dose of copper ease, next time it will just fall off
  4. Must have been the prussics fault then
  5. It was the bendy branch walk that ruined your day, it wasn't thick enough
  6. Haha...I also had man flu if you remember
  7. I'm glad i watched that Tony, I've just planted three Juglans Nigra on my land, I'm going to plant some more
  8. Wood Auto factors in Huddersfield have a huge factory that recon starters, I've always found them good for odd ball starters if you cant find one on tbay
  9. It knackers the seals on the steering box output shaft Tom, although I very nearly thought "to hell with it"
  10. You were as stressed as me at the show Tom. Things cant continue like that mate
  11. You've hit the nail square on the head Rupe, I am that type of person that trys to please everyone and often get taken advantage of. Funny you should say, but last week i did walk away from a job telling them to get someone else it was too much hassle
  12. Landrover drop arm and weapon of choice
  13. You read my mind Tony, my prices are going up again this week, the thing is I'm not particularly cheap anyway. I just do a good tidy job, be polite and dont break anything, so people recommend me. I've just finished now which takes this week up to 79+ hours but i'm stressed out to hell and have been for at least a year. I went to Jonesies show last year and wasn't really myself and I knew it, then I had a week off skiing in jan and thats all the time I have had off. I think the trick is as tony said, price out the ballache jobs and try and reduce the workload
  14. Interested in how many hours others put in per week, especially self employed. Just about to go to work again this morning and by the end of today I will have clocked up 74 hours and only just over half of that paid work. Recently I did over 80 hours, unsustainable I know, but I do all my own servicing and have moved yards recently and my yard is a big yard which needed lots of fencing, barn building, earth moving etc etc and lot of equipment to service
  15. The solenoid throws a copper bar forward to bridge two huge copper contacts, the contacts can be burnt, so it will still "click" but not make contact so the solenoid can click and still be goosed. The way to check this is as I said above
  16. Give me a ring if you need me to explain more clearly tomorrow, but text first as I won't answer on a Sunday Mobile number is on my website
  17. Suspect starter First of all check the engine will turn by hand, either by moving the chipper flywheel a little or remove belts and try turn engine flywheel. Then you will have to check power is actually getting to both sides of the starter. A quick test would be to put a jump lead from the battery positive straight to the starter motors big power connector which will make the starter spin but not engage, then t ouch the lead to just the little connector on its own which should make it make a big click which is throwing the gear
  18. I don't know what it is but I have a soft spot for yew, I,ve managed to persuade two customers this week to replace their hedge with yew instead of beech. I will allow my hedge to swallow up the barbed wire fencing along its length, it will just put a smile on my face should anyone try the new craze of hedge jumping
  19. Sorry about the crap pics, I,m on the iPad and it's rubbish
  20. Managed to get them all planted today on my own, absolutely knackered. Even managed a lunge of sorts
  21. Cheers for that Goaty They are expensive so don't want them to fail. Luckily they are for my yard and there is a water tap just at the point where the hedge they are to form will finish, so watering them should be a breeze
  22. I,ve just taken delivery of 150 bare root taxus that came in a pallet, they Looked very dry. I,ve stuck them in big tubs of water with the intention of leaving them over night and planting in the morning. They should be ok over night with the roots completely submerged shouldn't they ?
  23. It was only a figure of speech mate, Steve is not really a muppet, he's a top bloke (-: Sent from my iPhone cos it was
  24. Cutting down trees is only 1% of the job you muppet
