  1. Just an idea but could you bend and encourage the end branches to thread their way through what will be left of it? I did that once on a shorter hedge - looked a mess for 2-3 years but after that it was ok... sort of!
  2. You should be able to just use this adapter here to make the mounting studs fit the 14mm slot Bar Adapter Turns D025 12mm Medium Stihl Studs to 14mm A031 WWW.CHAINSAWBARS.CO.UK Use this adapter plate in order to fit 14mm Large Stihl type bars to the mid size Stihl mounting studs which are 12mm. as well as changing the drive rim over to 404 on the MS661 [you'll have to remember to do this if you change back and forward]
  3. Ah ok and what's the e-mail of that [associated with the business] - you can PM me if needs be..
  4. No prob - have you ordered off us before?
  5. Cheers - yep hasn't it just!
  6. Thanks for the feedback - also it's the 10 year anniversary of Chainsawbars come December - so there may be something in it for the regulars
  7. It often crops up - can you do me a deal? - if you're a regular customer yes - no if you're not. And this is auto applied. A few years ago we really wanted to move away from the 'successful' model that large businesses seem to use which is 1) offer the world to new customers in order to get them to come on board 2) operate a milking system for regular, loyal customers who quietly provide the backbone of your turnover but don't ask much for doing so... Also if we did a deal when folks contacted us then we're making a rod for our own backs as well as undermining said loyal customers ie. if you called and got a deal once you'll call to get a deal next time. And if you didn't get a deal next time then you'd be annoyed. So I reckon the existing system works pretty well [feel free to comment] as it's simple and does what it's supposed to.
  8. Give Loglogic a call on 01884 839999 as they were the dealers for 10 years+ before Riko... Though I suspect they likely sold on all their spares at the time - always worth a try though.
  9. I have a needy 5 year old and an annoying Mrs! But it's all good and I've settled into family life a lot better these days. At our work people pretty much take breaks when they feel like it - it's not treework so i don't think you can draw too many parallels. Prob as said there are no rights or wrongs - just what works for you and who you are working with.
  10. Yep it's sad and don't really see how the corruption and nonsense will ever end. Those in power benefit from it all - so why would it end?
  11. Yep - and the worst thing is it can be common knowledge for everyone to see - and nowt we can do about it.
  12. If you are finding this is a regular thing check the other things that can cause noses to fail - ie. worn rim/drive sprocket peening the chain which then burrs the nose sprocket. Also clean the gunk out the bar regularly [ie really every time after using it] as otherwise the oil that comes onto the bar tends to get slurped up by that gunk at the bottom and none ever makes it to seep down into the nose bearing.
  13. It's a tricky one is this - if you are well on top of bar maintenance and are regularly cleaning out the gunk [which then allows oil to seep down onto the nose bearing] then prob you don't have to grease... When you are greasing then the idea is more that the grease pushes out any grit that's in there and the centrifugal force in some ways should spin the excess grease out with any bits. But as usual no right or wrong just what works best for you.
  14. Thanks Bob and I'm not far away from being a silly old fart myself these days - in fact maybe I'm already there 😅
  15. Yep I get this time to time - if you refresh the page again it lines it all up correctly. Lot of info on the page to display so sometimes it doesn't load in properly.
  16. It is a bit like that but I know Chinese factories that have stopped producing a product after being contacted by Stihl.
  17. Ah now I watched a couple of times I don't think it will be the same - as this area of the tooth needs to be right from the start or the flat part of the file will not sit correctly. I lost my little bit of money I put on this I think! 😄
  18. Yep you may be right - but I would expect a company like Stihl to be able to make the product so that it is patentable. Only because they prob have a lot of experience with the patent process and the resources to get them and enforce them. As in they can 'build in' something that makes the system patentable. And in many ways IMO it's fair to do it as otherwise where is the incentive to come up with these sorts of new tools..
  19. Ah I thought they were only trianglar/double bevel and goody - but I may be wrong.
  20. Stihl are well capable of enforcing their patents if they feel like doing so. And as said - I can't find any hex shaped files on the net - so it would be unique.
  21. One thing that could be clever about this system is that the file will sit at the right height - so you need not worry about causing the cutter to slope backwards - or to be 'beaked' and be too aggressive. Actually just had a 'light bulb' moment about chain sharpening! Too good to share will see if it is possible first
  22. Quick google and I can't see any hex shaped chainsaw files out there - so I expect a large patent on this one!
  23. Wow looks really good IMO. Part gimmick but part actually works I expect - I'll put money [but not much] that it's the file that does this and the chain is the same as standard chisel [or rapid super as Stihl says]. But out the box it will look different. Files will likely be £20 each and fully patented 😆 Not as ground breaking as their 1/4 .043 chain - but at least Stihl continues to innovate.
  24. Just to say again we are closing lunchtime today for a week. If you have urgent requirements or need shipping in a hurry if you go to one of our dealers in the meantime [FR Jones is the main dealer for our stuff in the UK].
  25. Or can you work it so you owe the bank more than it owes you!
