  1. I’m dead jealous – wish I had your IT talent. I was the 1st one, but I’ve a wax this morning so moved up to No. 2
  2. I’ve done it (and suspect plenty of people do it also). No better way to make yourself concentrate on the job in hand.
  3. Sounds nasty, glad your ok and survived your foray into the ‘dead centre of town’.
  4. Should have that not read...... Yep John i agree the Cert Arb is already there but if myself and you was to stand at the front gate of an arb show and ask everbody through the gates who was the 'self appointed' industry representing body in the UK i bet that 90% + would say the AA
  5. I agree with you entirely, two chaps shouldn’t have to go through the same rigmarole and expenditure as the larger companies’ do, just to get approval. I also agree with you that the AA should look into something like the ISA Cert Arb, however can’t help feeling this is a little daft as there is already a scheme that encourages continued professional development and enables advertising on company vehicles – Its called ISA Cert. Arb.
  6. Do smaller firms need representation? If the standard of work is high and the commitment to H&S is there then I would’ve thought this alone would be enough. Personally I think membership of the approved contractor scheme will reach a plateau (maybe it’s got there already…?) You’ll always have large companies looking for and wanting representation. You’ll always have the quality independents coping admirably without….And as long as there are trees there will be the cowboys taking the money from under you no-matter who your alliance belongs to.
  7. I’m going looking for suitable trees and locations tomorrow, just so I can get on this thread!
  8. I love this ex-military stuff! I used to buy and sell Defenders direct from the MOD (before they changed and went to tender). My best buy was a 91 LHD SWB Defender with 4500km’s on the clock from new. I ran it for 12 months and still made 2k when I sold it on. Thanks for the link.
  9. Thanks David, what ever I get it’ll have to seat at least 3 - I need to get out more!
  10. It is most lovely indeed! And so the research starts……
  11. Thats the one! Cheers http://www.whatvan.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=750&Itemid=54
  12. Up to 6.5 mate. I remember seeing a new 4x4 truck at one of the shows (there is even a picture on here somewhere) but I can’t for the life of me find it.
  13. My Mitsubishi Canter is coming up for renewal and the time’s come to have a think if there is anything out there that’s better. To be honest the Canter hasn’t been that bad apart from its limited off-road capability and the trouble the front springs (two sets have been replaced, the last time with a extra heavy duty set which now seem ok). My wish list for a replacement would include – 4 x 4 Capability, maybe a slightly shorter back and a little HiAb between the tool and the chip box would be lovely. Anyone got any ideas, suggestions or recommendations?
  14. I’m not sure who’s carrying out the works – I pity the poor buggers if there is going to be a dozen Arbtalkers stood at the bottom clicking away with cameras and passing judgement! I do know the area well as the trees are close to the Cotswold way where I do a fair bit of mountain-biking – catch it on a good day and the views are stunning! Broadway village (just down the road) is one of the prettiest villages in the country with some mighty fine pubs!
  15. I’ve heard that Mr. T.G himself is giving the talk….and its free.
  16. Ancient Ash Pollards – to prune or not to prune? Broadway Tower, 4th. March. Anyone else going? Ancient Tree Forum
  17. The police may not be bothered, but I bet the insurance companies are! They have their own investigators who, given time would get to the bottom of this organised crime.
  18. Has anyone suggested someone write a generic letter and post it on the forum - we could all copy and paste it and start lobbying insurance companies, the AA, the police and anyone else in authority for that matter. These thefts need sorting ASAP.
  19. Cheers mate, the picture doesn’t do it justice really – that bottom limb is actually resting on the ground, I love it when you come across trees that have been un-touched by Arbs.
