  1. The quad is just a work-horse, a tool, used sensibly it will work well and safely, it has its limits, as does any equipment. If you want a tractor, the quad is not one. that just about sums it up really.............................. think what you need it for and think about versitility as for the clutches the only time ive relly had trouble is after a season racing in utiilty classes kev
  2. honda honda honda got a 14 year old one i staill race at weston hehehehehe seriously though dont be tempted by chineesss pooooooo and what chipper do you have as there are nose weights and maximum weight limits that the tow points will take safley on all machines. now the y will pull heavyer but safly and under controll is the key thing, and also if you over do it you rip out the clutch cheers kev
  3. i have too many krabs to name but i repeatedly reach for the petzle ok tl ovalas, the dmm HMS and the petzle amd ball lock. i hav a range of isc crabs but not a big fan of any of them but they are popular, whatever you buy get some lub and a tooth brush and some fairy kev

  7. dave does it have a single or double steering ram on the tractor
  8. ahhh goo old newton et al b101uk is being hyper acurate, basically gavity is 9.8 m per second squared, the guy peter used gravity as 10ms2 whitch to be honest is what most do as makes the maths easy. gravity accelerates just like when you put you foot down at the lights and the car takes off you are pusehed back in the seat untill the enjin reves out and you cant go any quicker gravity exACTLY THESAME SO IT WILL REACH TERMINAL VERLOCITY GIVEN ENOUGH ROOM TO FALL caps loc soz. so just like in the car if you accelerate hard from the light but after 10 meters hit a wall the front of car would crumpel but you would be ok. if in the car you had accelerated fo 30 m then hit a wall it may well kill you as there has been time for more energy to be added in, so the mass of the car plus the accelertion of the engin eqals the force you hit the wall with a log dropping is just the sam its mass plus the acceleration of gravity add in the time (or distance the log dropps) that gravity has put energy in to the log and hay presto you get the force it can exert. having said that what then plays is how you take the energy out of the log, 101 said stoped in a set distance so this can be calculated. the longer you stop it and slower you take the force out the better well we all know that......... lots of interesting stuff relating to this comming out of the rigging reserch and it will have influence on how we teach things, at the moment we do gesstimates for rigging 101 gave pure maths just trust the maths is good and note the conversion to J joules thank god for metric, what id say is many years ago i left school with an o level phisics and forgot it all i then relert it for rigging, and it is fair to say that in rigging so many people put them seves at great risk as they just dont know how much danger they put them selves in front of. im not sure if the above helped at all if not ill dig out another example for you, just remember what gets put in needs to come out... kev
  9. if you pop off the exaust you can inspect the piston for scoring etc that would indicated overreving etc, look to see if spark arrester blocked and you can burn out carbon with blow torsh wile off too. let us know what you see there i suggest that you do it a step at a time or you can end up masking the main problem. start with exaust. let us know

  18. Arbocop

    Boa????

Arb Boa was developed by the same guy who first brought us cobra, so if you look at the cobra site they have english instructions on its use, and the splice dimentions etc are very similar. the flat insert is to flatern the rope profile befor inserting it in to the sheath the flat insert can be cut down and whants to be The appropriate length of the insert is the circumference of stem/branch. At at distance of the branch circumference plus 20 cm (8") from the end of the rope. Compress the rope and insert the expansion insert into the rope. at bts training we are one of very few centers to offer training in flexable support systems, and also mentored instalations etc. as for what is the point of bracing well when i have a little longer we can chat about that as there are basically 3 main resons. you can fins out moor about that too on bracing cource cheers all kevin moore

  20. well well chaps this could go on and on, and is the sort of question i love, espesialy having trained people to inspect trees, been an expert witness on more than one ocasion, and oftern asked to review reports through mediation and complaints procedures. there has been some interesting stuff in the courst of late that looks at experts for tree inspecting and also cout work poll v batholemuew here http://www.aie.org.uk/resources/case_law/aie_case_poll_barth.html this was interesting for many resons not least of all the ding ding that kicked off regarding servay methods after the case, but more because in the judment there was a genneral acceptance of a tearing to the type of inspection and the person doing it. ergo if u r a forester do that not arb inspections, and visa versa......... as goes experts in court this was a daming inditment of an expert who got it all a bit higgldy pigldy and shows the need to prepair the judge was not happy it would apear atkins v scott http://www.aie.org.uk/resources/case_law/aie_case_atkins_scott.html having said all of that it is important to go to the basic rule if you know what you are doing and are certain of your facts qualifications are not always the only whay to show competence to do so, a good freind of mine stood with an NC arb in court against a chap who had PD Arb bs this cert that, the latter got some information wrong and bang.... he lost for that side. but lets remember what are quals about, well showing you have knowlge in a certain area, and the courts love them, your customer feel happyer with them, and you will help become all you can by gaining them, but never be temted to go out side your area of knowleg, forinstance it has been about 7 years since i did any real subsidance work, and befor that it did not form the main area of my work, so i would be very carful befor getting too involved with a case of that sort, but give me accident investigation dangerouse trees, im your man..... on a final note in case you have not seen it the hse do give some guidance in a SIM to the LA EHO's as to how to look at the risk assessment side of tree hazard inspection have a look hear http://www.hse.gov.uk/foi/internalops/sectors/ag_food/1_07_05.pdf cheers all kev
  21. the AVANT is similar to the other two suggestions, have mainly used it on jobs for moving materials and wood arround, minimising man handling, but does get used in the yard a bit. no one machine will do all, and consider how good and close your dealership is. but the avant is good. o yeh at last years aa trade fair there were a couple of that sort of machine around and june is not that far off?? kev
