  1. i really would not like to say from a pic. if in doubt cut it down record that on ya records and dispose of the damaged bit
  2. ill have a go for you must means must meat that standard but the documents that are inquestion state they are a minimum standard, so if you do moor then no problem eg working on ground min type a trousers to wear type c no problem workig with cs in tree can use top handeled saw to use rear handleed no problem goes on that way. to ask is enough enough not a problem i would say dont be afraid to be challanged same chap differant hat. just remember the hse are human and use the over and above measure lots. the reason for my comment earlier is there are times when we worry too much and just need to remember the so far as reasnobly practicable measure, wich in hse is our biggest help and also our biggest hinderance. does that help??? kev
  3. wow odd i looked at the pic and though fomies rather than G. cheers kev
  4. linda i seem to spend my life debating this stuff with the inforcers etal and it confuses the hell out of me which is why i try t getto the bottom of it so i can help people understand what duties are being put on them, but the english legal system is very complex and it is that that will test all of this in the end. when push comes to shove do your best if in doubt ask kev
  5. If that were the case all round, I wonder then if assessors and trainers alike would still be so insistent on pushing for the 5 yearly refresher courses! In becoming an assessor/trainer, would either one or all of you like to declare where lays your primary incentive for this direction in your respective career? Thanks pt 1. we dont push for it, it is entirly the desire of the hse, and if you look through most industries you will see the 3-5 year refresher is standard as for me of all the people i see on refresher cources i would say 70%-75% need polishing up a bit, i accept that leaves c.25% that will not take as much away from training as others, but there is a thread on going about arial rescue and the message there is sometimes its good just to practise, hse not lantra/nptc instructor assessors dont shoot the messenger. fot the final paragraph ive said that erlier. none of the above is ment to be contensiouse, and of cource is my point of view only, it would also like to say this thread did start off a bit negative saying the day any new units cam in we would all be in need of new new tickets lets just remember that is not the case, and this proposed new certification is ment to beter meet the needs of the changing face of arb
  6. Where do we recuperate this time and cost in an industry that is already starved of profit and choked with red-tape….pass it onto the customer, in a looming depression? Do any such considerations even enter the running? Are there any assessors/trainers/consultants who are voluntarily involved as such? pt1 we try to build re training etc CPD in to our prices as well as all the other stuff we try to do, but we all must accept that no one is perfect. pt2 in what way volentary, i like you all need to feed my family so i do a job of work for whitch i get paid, but i also give up time to support my branch of the aa FOC, i chair a committee FOC that reps to govenment, i spend my time at home on this forum and others offering my opinion and trying to help sort the weat from the chaff, not my employers time. i give up some time to scouting and SJA and then i have 2 kids and mrs to keep happpy i sleep well at night thinking im giving back quite a bit, but thats me cant talk for the other 300 assessors .
  7. If these refresher courses were free, then I don’t think there would be so much resentment from the people who have already paid for training and certification in the past….but the fact is that it sticks in the gut that some people are going to make money out of the workers as a result. Speaking of which, were any such non-related workers ever consulted about the changes? wel lthe question hear is affectivly asked, that depends on you and your organiosations etc, were i work the links were circulated to all managers t pass down to staff sa appropriate, it appeared in hort week all over the show, but the issue is if you dont read them you will miss out, that is why a forum such as this is valuble, as it has made people aware of this last stage of consultation and let them know to speak up about the content ofthe awards. as a by the side remember it is the content of the award, not any requirments for it that is being consultated.
  8. bingo your both right and this point is also why the proposed new cs 39 requires at least i think 70% of it to be doe with a top handeled saw. as for the cs47 useres those ms200 not the T the one with back handle are a sweet little saw for that work, but still a huski man through and through just cant seem to let the 020 as i know it go
  9. on a sort of off thread chatting about monky puzzels loosing their leaves the year i took my PD arb at builie we were shown a great monky puzel to look at and comment on, luckily i had seen cones on one before alas many people put it was dying and some put it was loosing its leafs..... this thread just made me think of that that and how pants i am at plant id kev
  10. slishing/premier 220 mx & 200 mx have a post on mud gard in stead of us welding it on to caryy cones have a simple tube to put brooms and rakes in as wel las push stick the 220 has some hany holes but needs elastic big vermear cant remember number have ahydrolic jack to ift top roller if jammed, some do have them 8 inch timberwolf, have a tinker with out put to make them less prone to blocking and a very very very old turner i think that needs a bonfire so we dont ever have to use it again hehehehehehheheheheh kev
  11. and in answer to the question why do trainer and assessors become trainer assessors, i can only talk for me, i spent many years doing and while i was doing all the time was told i had a natural ability to teach and found that i loved helping people develop. i spent a lot of time and money qualifying as a trainer, a teacher, and assessor etc, and then getting specifically qualified in fealids i was sutiably experianced in . it was not easy at all, but i love it, i really do enjoy my job as when im actually doing work work it reminds me why i came in to this line of work and when im trying to help others develop its great to see them start to realise. ive taught achademic and vocational stuff, and enjoy bot just as much, alas these days i find my self being moor and moor bound to the office and less and less doing. how ever and this is an important point picked up earlier, i and the trainers i manage all do still take the time to get out and do some doing a few times a year. there is always a balance to be struck, but a long time ago a man a lot wiser than i called john harraway told me ' you must get out and keep doing it, you must also keep reviewing your teaching notes and their referance or after a while you will start beliving and teaching your own propergander' wise wise words and i still try to follow them cheers all
  12. way back some one asked me to put my long post in short form hears a try government decides all industries must have standards for there work force thay create people to set thos standards call sector skills councils SSC SSC write the standards to cover every one from the begginer to the very experianced these are calles National ocupational standards NOS so that we know who is wear on the scale of begginer to experiance they create job profiles and set what bits of the NOS need to be passed to have a level of skill just like the differance between a gcse and an a level the nptc right certificate sylibas to match bits of the NOS so they can have them recognised at a natioanl level so when a nos is re done the certs need to be re done ?? any clearer?? kev
  13. thanks Mesterh just won £5 off my lady as i said within 3 posts some one would say that she said no way. i think i should quantify a few things, as a trainer you deal with novices and have to be very strickt as things can go wrong very quickley, i also used to be heavily envolved with a volantary ambulance service, and water rescue organisation, so found my self in situations were we were there just in case it whent wrong. having said that i know alot of people who have seen a lot moor action than me, i think my whole point is you really really do need to practise and plan over and over and over again because if you do need to do it one day you need to do it a slic as possible. the other thing is challange, i know its a buzz word at the moment but do say we always practise this what if........... kev
  14. hi chaps well the answer is...........HSWA/PUWER etc require adquite training blah blah blah cs 47 = put mewp in right place and rig the right way take off horizontal sections using step and face cuts with out hitting mewp, then remove vertical sections utilising same cuts and a tag line. you need a mewp cert to do this assessment. currently cs39 does not include vertical sections or tag lines those are in the world of cs41, so under current guidance supported by hse cs39+41 ok or cs47 ok for using cs from mewp. when/if the new cs39 takes hold we may have to revise that does that help????? kev
  15. few that better needed that now to my other point, take what every one has said above and roll it all together and you have your answer, as an industry we are rubbish at rescue planning, and emergency procedure. IMHO but we get by, we have a good innisial system, learning simple methods with siple kit and practising them a little, great however this has been let doen a little by some people in the past not fully covering the range of skills that should be covered on cources ie pole recue. so whats my point hear planning and practise practise and planning, and just remember the best resue is one were you dont leave the ground at all. there are many ways to recover a casulty or assisst ther decent with out leaving the ground. the times ive had to do resue im alwas glad that im made to practise regually. plan and practise practise and plan cheers all stay safe out ther kev
  16. yep i can but not tonight
  17. hold ya breath chaps and chapesses this may be a long one in answer to the first question yes, too many times had to rescue my self one time following an unfortunate incident with a silky zubat, took longer to get the blood off the green house than it did to reduce the lime. had to pull 3 people out of trees, one kowarla on a job try who just froze, fraked and cryed, he would not let go. he now drives taxis in the local area. and two gus that lost there ropes out on branches and freaked. accidents are funny things, when there is a cry for you it always has that tone to it that makes you go cold, i was also on site were some one screamed my name as i was about to go up a tree and turned in time to see a body falling and bounce as it hit the front garden........... the thing that saved his life was the land scaping, new turf layed on a deeply tilled soil just like a crash mat, very lucky guy, the other bad thing i was forman on that site, i had to ring his gf and tell her he was in hospital but would be ok, the tears and all that was just heart ripping. now some years on ive been involved at looking at accidents and every time you see the blood the tape the photos of the site flower tributes etc it reminds you why this is a thing that needs s to be taken serously. now going back to the first incident where i did a live resue i remember they chaps words, nah screams from the tree, "dont let me die plees dont let me die i thought you were hear to help me" no way he was going to die but he thought so, i still use those words when training today amoungst lots of wisle blowing and shouting and gennerally trying to scare the rescuer as in a recue situation people all act differantly. been to a few RTIs and even dragged a teenager from the bottom of a river, and nothing no nothing prapares you fully for how you will deal with things. what does help is practise, realistic practice, repeated practice, and disapline, a funny thing to say i know but when the **** hits the fan people need to know there roles and do them with out question or hesitation. i was at an incident this summer where things could have gone very wrong as one of the rescue team on site had (ohh this was not tree work i should add involved water activities) never actually done a live resue only practise and when they saw what they thiught was a corps comming out of the river he fraked and broke down. now i think no less of him for that hes back helping now and pitching in but at that moment we had to change how we were doing things, and that happened due to peoples experiance AND ayes a big AND well thought out planned rescue plans based on a RA simple as that as it says at the bottom hear plan for the worst.................................. now take a breath and ill continue.......................................
